Tradition
Emotions affect our healing,
And Darling, lately
All I'm feeling is…
Well, that's the thing--
I'm not sure.
I can only concur
That I'm blocking out sound.
I'm in the kitchen
Wearing lies
Like I once did hand-me-downs;
My rite of passage
Is a fall from grace,
My means is written
On her face.
Suspicion.
My pain tolerance has risen
To the point that it's a given,
The question on my mind:
How far can I climb?
My will has only
Heightened, see,
Heights have never
Frightened me.
Every time I stumble,
I become more humble
In submission
To the upkeep of tradition.
My brother and sister
Taught me everything,
And I taught myself
How to love
In secrecy.
