Chapter Six
Jessica Marie Jackson was too happy to fall asleep. It was about one-thirty in the morning, but she was wide awake. The 5sos concert was amazing! And then, after the concert was over, she and Kayla invited Lia and Allysa to go backstage with them and meet 5sos! It was so cool! They were all so nice, and all so cute! Jessica thought that it was great that not only were a wonderful band, but they looked cute, were very nice, and were totally funny! She was already wanting to go to another one of their concerts...
Peyton Caroline Landing was annoyed. Some careless girl has spilled her special VERY EXPENSIVE makeup all over her also VERY EXPENSIVE sparkly red dress. "Chloe!" She yelled out to her assistant. Chloe came into Peyton's office almost immediately. "You called for me?" She asked. Peyton nodded. "Bring my dress into the dry cleaners and have them take care of it IMMEDIATELY!!!!!" "Yes Peyton." Chloe replied, then left the room. Peyton sighed. At least she had about one hundred more outfits to wear...
Kayla's POV
It is about 3:00 in the morning and I have realized that I am not going to go to sleep anytime soon. My brain is just too active and my eyes refuse to shut. So I read a little bit of Clive Cussler's Iceberg, ok, I read a lot of Iceberg. I finish the book and check the clock. 4:45 am. I sigh and put my book on my nightstand, and I lay back on my bed and think about the night. For some reason, my mind keeps wandering back to that really gorgeous, really rude girl that I bumped into at the concert. She seems familiar somehow...but I just can't quite put my finger on it. She said her name was Peyton Landing...the name rings a bell, but I still don't know why. She also said she was famous...so perhaps I have seen her and her name has been mentioned in a magazine. Jessica might know more...she reads lots of magazines, but I haven't read one in ages. I debate whether or not to go ask her right now, but I finally decide against it. She might not even be awake. I can ask her in the morning. At 5:15, I finally turn out the lights and try to go to sleep. I am dozing off when it hits me. I rapidly sit up in my bed and my eyes widen as the realization sinks in. I know Peyton. But not just as some famous person, I personally know her. I remember we were great friends when we were younger, but then something happened between us. I am too tired to recall it now, and as I lay back down and start to fall asleep, I think to myself, how cool. I personally know a famous movie star. For the life of me, I just can't remember why we lost touch. Oh well. I'll think about it in the morning...
Jessica's POV
When I open my eyes in the morning, I turn to look at the clock. 10:27 am. 10:27?!?!? Wow, I must have been really tired last night. But it was great nonetheless. As soon as I sit up, Kayla runs into my room.
"Jess Jess Jess!" She yells.
I am startled by her entrance, so I yell back, "What what what?"
"So you know that girl last night in the red dress?" She asks me.
"Technically, it was this morning, but yes." I reply. Kayla gives me a look before continuing.
"Anyways, we know her!" Kayla exclaims.
I nod. "Yea, remember? She told us her name. Peyton Landing. She is a famous movie star." I tell Kayla.
Kayla sighs in exasperation and rolls her eyes. "Yes I know that. But what I meant was, we know her personally."
This time, I am confused. We know a famous movie star personally? That can't be right. I frown as I ask, "What do you mean, know her personally?"
"We were childhood friends." Kayla explains. "But then we lost touch. I can't remember why...maybe you can."
I think back to when we were younger...Peyton Landing...Peyton Landing...Peyton... Suddenly, it all comes back to me. I remember Kayla was really good friends with Peyton and some other girl, back when I was a nerd. But why did Kayla and Peyton get out of touch? Hmmm... They had an argument. I remember it crystal clear, as if it was only yesterday. It pains me as I think back to it, and I remember thinking about how mean children can be, especially to one another. I see Kayla eyeing me, and I decided to tell her what I remember, well, some of it. I'll tell her that I remember Peyton, but not the argument. I want to spare my sister the pain that comes with remembering, even if it is just for a little while longer.
"Yea, I remember. You were best friends with Peyton." I say.
"Yes but do you remember why we stopped being friends?" She asks. I hesitate, trying to figure out a way to not tell her, but not lie to her either.
"You lost touch." I say after a couple seconds of silence.
"Yes but why?" Kayla persists.
"She moved." I say, knowing that this is true because, not long after the argument, she moved to California.
My sister frowns. "Oh yea, I remember now. I wonder-" she pauses and her face becomes very concentrated, her eyes glaze over as she stares off into the distance.
I frown, wait a couple seconds, then say, "Kayla?" I ask, touching her shoulder. At my touch, she jumps and faces me.
"What? Sorry, I was just trying to think...I'm not sure..." Her face morphs into the concentrated look of a few moments before, and then she snaps out of it and walks out of my room.
She stops in the doorway. "I'm hungry." She complains. I smile, glad that my sister is back, and doesn't have that weird zombie-like face on.
"Then let's go eat." I respond, shrugging my shoulders. I hop off of the bed, and link arms with my sister. She smiles as we walk together, and I am happy too. It's just the two of us, and I have to admit, it is actually quite fun. We walk out of the room, smiling and joking like old friends, which we are of course.
