Chapter Three

William Steve Richardson was confident. Confident that he had made the right choice, confident that this girl was the one, confident that everything would go as planned. He just had one more person to meet with...

Cleo Isabelle Nightshade was worried. As soon as the man showed up, she knew something was wrong. He wouldn't call on her for no reason, and she had told him "Only in times of great need or great danger." If this was a time of great need or great danger, then something was wrong. It had to be. She trusted her instincts, and, as usual, her instincts were right...

Jessica's POV

"Flight from New York, New York to Los Angeles, California is departing at gate seven. Please come to gate seven if you are going to Los Angeles." A woman's voice called over the loudspeaker.

I turn to my family and friends. "Well." I say. "That is our flight."

Krysten hugs me. "We will miss you so so much, Jessica."

"Ya, I'll miss you too." I reply.

"Just text us..."

"A lot." Sam starts and Lindsay finishes.

I smile. "Ok, I will."

Mom, Livi, and Noah then envelop Kayla and me in a hug. "Have fun, be safe." Mom whispers into our ears.

"Ok, we will." Kayla replies. Then finally let go of us.

I turn to Kayla. "Ready?" I ask.

She nods. "Ready." We start walking towards the departure gate, gate seven.

"Last call for flight departing to Los Angeles." The woman's voice over the loudspeaker says.

I turn back towards my family and friends. "See you in eight weeks." I whisper. Then I turn, and follow Kayla onto the airplane.

Peyton's POV

"What do you mean you aren't coming until Thursday? I need you to come now!" I yell into the phone.

I listen for the response. "I'm sorry, but I just can't get there until Thursday." The voice on the other end of the line says.

I sigh. "Ok, fine, but you better be here on Thursday or ELSE!!!" I scream as I say the last part. I jab the 'end' button in the phone, then turn my swivel chair to face the woman standing in front of me.

"So, tomorrow?" She asks. I nod at her, my face still burning red with anger from the phone call.

"Tomorrow." I say, trying very hard to keep my voice level and even. The woman nods and leaves the room. I sigh, glad for the peace, even if it is only for a minute.

Chloe's POV

Who knew it would be so hard to get a last minute flight from Washington to California? They only have one state in between them! But even as the question is forming in my head, I already know the answer. It's the modern age. With people rushing around like there is no tomorrow, trying to do ten things at once. People should only be focused on one or two things at a time, that way, they will perform those tasks better than if they were trying to do ten things all at once. Even here, in the airport, there are people trying to multitask. I sigh as I step aboard the plane, thankful that I even found a flight. And, I think to myself as I am seated, it will only be more crazy and more crowded in the big city of Los Angeles.

Kayla's POV

I sigh as I close my book and turn to look out of the window. I finally finished The Mediterranean Caper, with ending being much different than I expected. I guess that is one quality that a good author has. To draw you in and make you focus on one thing, while an entirely different thing is happening somewhere else. Kind of like magic, if you think about it. Magicians draw your attention away from the real thing, and divert your attention where they want you to be focusing on, so that way, when they perform their trick, you are shocked and amazed that they could do something like all of that, although all they really did was manipulate you into thinking one thing instead of another. I guess I was thinking about magic and good books for a long time, because, before I knew it, I hear a male voice over the loudspeaker.

"Hello passengers, this is your captain speaking. We will be landing in about seven minutes, so please stay seated with your seat belts on until we land. Thank you." His voice dies away, and I look at Jessica, who is putting away a magazine with a very colorful front cover.

"What were you reading?" I ask her.

"It was guide to Hollywood. It says when all the shows and concerts and movie filmings are. I was looking at it, and when we get to Grandma and Pops', I will show you and we can decide what we want to go to and when." She informs me.

"Ok, sounds good." I say, then lean back in my seat and look out of the window until we land at the LAX airport in none other than Fabulous Los Angeles!!!

Jessica's POV

I look around for Grandma and Pops as I step off of the airplane. They said that thy would meet us at the airport, but I don't see them yet. I see little kids screaming and yelling and running around, and their parents trying to control them. But no Grandma and Pops.

Then I hear Kayla's voice from behind me. "There they are!" She exclaims, pointing to an older couple near the back.

I smile, and see them wave to us. I run through the crowds of people until I reach them. When I get to them, I throw my arms around both of them. "It's great to see you!!" I exclaim.

They both laugh. "It's great to see you, Jessica!" Grandma says.

"Hey Kayla!" Pops says enthusiastically as Kayla runs up behind me.

She hugs both of them, and then Grandma says, "Why don't we get home? We have a surprise for each of you!"

"We have a surprise for you!" I say, just as excited.

"Great!" Pops says. "Let's get on home then!"

I smile as we walk to the car together. Sometimes they are weird, but I sure do love my grandparents.

Chloe's POV

I raise a closed fist to the door, hesitate for a slight moment, then knock on the door. It makes an odd sound, and I wonder what is making the sound.

"Come in." A beautiful female voice rings out. I enter the room. Peyton is sitting in a big, sparkly pink swivel chair. She looks up, and smiles when she sees me.

"Chloe!" She says, her voice having a distinct feature, I'm just not sure what that feature is. She hugs me, and I am very surprised. Peyton is a world wide phenomenon, and she is hugging a girl that she hardly knows and hasn't seen in eight years? That to me, is very suspicious.

As soon as she stops hugging me, I cut straight to the chase. "Why did you call me here?" Her smile disappears, and she sighs as she goes to sit back down in her chair.

"Chloe, Chloe, Chloe. You and I both know that I am becoming quite famous."

I'm not sure where this is leading, although I do have an idea, so I reply evenly, "I'm sure you will be very successful."

She smiles and shakes her head. " Oh Chloe. You just don't know when to stop playing, do you?" She says with a sad smile.

My eyes harden. "Listen Peyton. I came here for one purpose, and one purpose only. Don't pretend that just because you are some superstar now, you can ignore me and forget about everything! Well you can't! I know who you truly are and I am the only one whom you can trust, and I am the only who an help you! So please don't treat me any different!!!" Wow. That took a lot out of me.

Peyton raises her eyebrows. "Well I certainly misjudged you." She says, a flicker of a smile playing at her lips.

A smile tugs at the corner of my mouth. "Luc-" I begin, but she interrupts with a snarl.

"It's Peyton, Peyton now!" She yells in my face.

"I lost my other name a long time ago." She whispers a couple seconds later.

"Please, just go." She says, waving her hand to dismiss me.

Normally, I don't take orders, but Peyton seems like she needs to be alone.

I nod curtly and turn around, but inside I am fuming. Fine. If that is the way she wants to play it, then let the games begin.
