Mutations

Jack's POV

I slowly opened my eyes. My head was pounding, and I was strapped to a chair. I wiggled, but the ropes were secure.

My mind immediately jumped into overdrive. Who had captured me, and how? I had never been knocked out by that stuff before. It was either very advanced technology, undiscovered poison, or someone using their genetic mutation. None of those options were very likely.

Very few people had genetic mutations. Pitch was the one who had developed that technology in secret. Not exactly Pitch himself. It was a scientist and geneticist. I called him Professor Scar as a kid.

I've never told anyone about my past. It's a secret I intend to take to my grave.

I used to be among a small group of children who were tested on by Pitch and Professor Scar. There were ten of us. Five girls and five boys. I was Pitch and Professor Scar's favorite test subject. I was the one they made the most progress with genetic mutations on. The main effects of the genetic mutations were that I ended up with strange abilities over cold and ice, and that occasionally I would have pain attacks. The Guardians knew about the effects, but not the cause.

As far as I knew, all of the other subjects died or were murdered by Pitch and Professor Scar. I was the only survivor.

"He woke up," a familiar voice said. I glanced around.

I was in a dim room. I couldn't see anything beyond the single spotlight that shone on me. I recognized that voice, even if I couldn't see the speaker. It was Snoway. One of the Frozen Four.

"About time. Are you sure this is the one we were looking for?" Snowkay asked from somewhere to my left.

"I'm sure. The intel was good," Snowaeech replied from behind me.

"Why did you guys kidnap me? I've got to go back! My friends are in trouble!" I growled.

"Don't bother with that innocent act," Snowaeech growled as something thumped against the back of my head. My eyes watered. "We know you've just been undercover this whole time! How long have you been waiting for the perfect moment to betray the Guardians?"

"I haven't been undercover," I growled in return. "I've been perfectly honest with them. They trust me. Why don't you . . . Frozen Four?"

"Disrespect! After what he did to El-" Snoway started to protest, but she was quickly cut off.

"No need to tell him more than he needs to know," Snowaeech said. My mind buzzed. El? As in the letter L? Or was that part of a name? Snowy . .  L . . .

Everything clicked at once. Snowy was Snow E. Snoway was Snow A, Snowkay was Snow K, and Snowaeech was Snow H. Now the code names finally made sense.

"What's going on?" another familiar voice asked. A door opened, and a square of light illuminated the silhouette of a person.

"Sorry Snow E. We were doing an interrogation," Snow H explained. The person closed the door and stepped into the spotlight. It was a girl with platinum blond hair and shocking blue eyes. The almost looked fake. The only other person I knew with eyes like that was myself. This had to be the girl who rescued me back at Pitch's place, although it was odd her eyes were a different color now. Maybe she had been wearing contacts.

"Who?" she asked.

"Jack Frost. Full name: Jackson Frost Overland Black," Snow H said triumphantly.

I knew it was only a matter of time until someone brought family into this.

Elsa's POV

I blinked and took a good long look at the person in front of me. It was the guy I had freed back in Pitch's lab. So this was the famous Jack Black.

We had all heard the stories about Jack Black. He was Pitch's only child. No one knew who the mother was. Jack was one of the kids used in the mutations testing. He had been one of the only children to survive testing. I was another one.

My memories of that time were very fuzzy. I was a little girl back then. I remember a few of the tests, and remember being very scared. Then I met Jack during one of the tests. He had black hair and green eyes, like Pitch used to have. He was the only kid who didn't seem to be crying all the time. Not only that, he was fighting back. I could tell it was driving Pitch and the Professor crazy. They just kept making Jack's tests more painful and more difficult. Finally they decided to outright punish him. All of the children were brought to watch. Jack was placed in some sort of machine that shot bolts of electricity at him. I couldn't stand watching.

That's when something strange happened.

Jack's hair turned white and his eyes became piercing blue. Frost began covering the machine, and then everything exploded outward. The Professor was seriously injured and developed long scars all over his face. Pitch and the children were uninjured. Jack had passed out, but his hair was still white.

After that, they took Jack away. Something about what happened to him must have been what they wanted, because not long after they put me in a very similar electrical machine. I passed out after a minute or two, and when I woke up my hair was platinum blond and I had blue eyes like Jack's.

I brought myself back to the present. I couldn't believe Jack was still alive. I had heard rumors that he had escaped and was working for the Guardians, but I couldn't be sure. I thought it was all a hoax. Jack still had the white hair and blue eyes from the lab experiments. He didn't seem to recognize me.

I decided not to tell the others about Jack's past. Not yet at least. First I would see if Jack had changed, and if he was under Pitch's control. After all, they were still related.
