____________

"It's almost late afternoon and she's still unconscious.. But Swayam told us that she should be up soon.." Dhruv asked worriedly as soon as he entered into Dhruvika's hospital room after all his medical tests..
Hemal who was sitting beside Dhruvika with her head rested on the bed looked up hearing Dhruv's voice and answered him..
"She's not unconscious.. She's just sleeping.. She gained consciousness when you were with Swayam and she was asking for you..
I told her you were a little busy now, but he would be here soon.. She was waiting for you to play superhero with her, but then she fell asleep just half an hour ago.. She was so tired.." Hemal muttered emotionlessly not meeting his gaze..
Dhruv felt bad seeing Hemal like that.. She looked pale, her lips were dry clearly indicating that she was dehydrated and her eyes were swollen and red..
He knew she must be crying all while without caring to eat or at least drink something..
"It's okay, baby.. We'll play when you'll wake up.." he walked up to her bed and kissed her tiny forehead..
"I'll be back in a minute.." he informed her and went out of the room..
.
.
.
"Here.. Eat.." Dhruv held a cap of latte and a cheese sandwich before Hemal after coming back almost fifteen minutes later..
"Dhruv, you don't need to do all these for me and anyways I'm not hungry.." she denied the food and looked away..
"Oh come on, Hemal, don't be stubborn.. You haven't eat anything after the pizza you had last evening..
Angel needs you, you can't be sick now.. So just eat.." he sounded annoyed and without any further argument Hemal took the sandwich and the cup of coffee from his hand as she didn't want to piss him off anymore..
Dhruv closed his eyes for a second to relax himself after she took the food from him..
He then dragged a chair from the opposite side of the bed and put it beside hers..
As he was unwrapping his sandwich, he notice Hemal making face seeing the latte through the corner of his eyes..
"I remember you are more of a espresso person rather a latte one.. But you need this sugar and milk in your system.. It will keep you energetic.. So stop making faces and drink up the whole thing.. Dare you waste it.." he muttered munching on his sandwich, without looking at her..
Hemal sighed hearing him and started eating her food in silence..

"You say Angel needs me.. Don't you need me anymore, Dhruv..??" Hemal almost whispered fidgeting with her fingers.. Her eyes were cast down and she was in a verge of crying..
"Do you need me anymore, Hemal..?? I mean you left me and after all these years you contacted me just for the sake of Angel..
You clearly don't need me.. And in these five years even I learned to live alone.." he muttered painfully, looking at Hemal's face trying to gauge her emotions..
"Yeah.. Fair enough.." she swallowed the painful lump in her throat and took deep breathes to control herself from breaking down in front of him..
"You know what, I should give you some lone time with Angel.. Call me if she need anything.." she muttered hiding her tears and got up from her chair to leave the room..
"I bought a ring for you.."
"What??"
"I bought a ring for you and I was planning to ask you for marriage the day you left India.. I wanted to marry you, have kids with you, grow old with you.. Well, I still do.. But I think I was too late to ask you to marry me that's why you left me for someone else.." Dhruv spoke looking up in her eyes..
"Oh my God.. What did I do.." she slammed on the chair covering her mouth in regret..
"Dhruv, trust me I hadn't the slightest idea about your intention, otherwise I never had left you..
It wasn't an easy decision for me either.. I died every moment thinking about you..
And I didn't left you for any other guy.. I was referring about my unborn child in that letter..
I knew I was causing you a lot of pain, so I thought it would be better if you hate me, at least in that way you wouldn't hurt yourself remembering me.." Hemal said crying hysterically grabbing his hand..
"You never understood me, Hemal.. I love too much to hate you.." he smiled sadly wiping her tears which made Hemal feel more guilty..
"I'm sorry, Dhruv.. I'm extremely sorry.. I shouldn't have left you.. I did so wrong..
I ruined everything, I ruined us, I ruined my baby's childhood.. I'm such a bad mother..
I thought I'm enough for her.. I didn't even know that my baby is craving for a father's love..
She never told me, but she told you.. She knows you only for two days and she shared her greatest desire with you.. I already failed you years ago and now I failed my daughter too.." she sobbed hugging him..

"Hey, shh..!! Stop crying.. You are a good mother, Hemal.. Don't think that you failed her.." Dhruv shushed her and caressed her back until her sob became silent...
"You know what, let me tell you a secret.. I instantly felt a connection with Angel when I first saw her at your office.. I always wondered that why a felt that strong pull towards her..
But now I know and I can't tell you how happy I am knowing about her..
And it's possible that may be she too felt the same way just like I did.. It's a father - daughter bond, mommy..
But you don't get jealous, my baby loves you too.." he chipped casually to lighten up Hemal's mood..
"I'm not jealous of you.. I know she loves me.." Hemal rolled her eyes at his words and pulled away from him..
She seemed better then before and Dhruv mentally patted himself for his success..
"I found out about my pregnancy when I was already eight week pregnant.." Hemal spoke after a few minutes of silence..
"What?? Eight weeks?? How come you didn't find out earlier?? I mean didn't you notice any symptom which could make you suspicious..??" he asked..
"Yeah, I notice some unusualness like nausea and dizziness and I missed my periods as well, but I ignored them.." she shrugged..
"You ignored them..!! God..!! Hemal, how could be you so stupid and naïve.." he ran his fingers through his hair in frustration..
"Dhruv, you know I was on small pills back then and just think how many time we had sex in those years but I never got pregnant.. That was why I assumed that those things were false alarm and they were the result of my excessive work load and stress.." she chipped with a pout..
"You used to be horny all the time and you ate a lot more then before and how could I forget about your mood swings..
Damn me..!! Even I noticed all those changes but I never tried to figure out the reason behind it.." he mouthed regretfully..
"Anyways, how did you find out about it then..??" he asked eagerly..
"I didn't, my doctor did.. I went of see her assuming my morning sickness as some stomach flu..
She did some tests and next day she handed me my pathology report and congratulated me for being pregnant.." she sighed..
"And what made you hide your pregnancy from me??" he asked raising his one eyebrow..

"Trust me, Dhruv, you don't wanna know why I did that.." Hemal seemed serious..
"Actually I do wanna know.. Whatever reason you had behind all these just tell me.. I promise, I won't judge you.." he mouthed sincerely, grabbing her hand..
"But, Dhru.."
"Please, Hemal, just tell me.."
"Okay.."
Hemal inhaled deeply and started speaking after a minute later..
"I thought of aborting the baby that's why I didn't tell you.." she could feel his tightening grip on her hand..
"Why..??" he had a painful expression on his face which stabbed her heart..
"Dhruv, all these happened five years ago, let's not drag our past in our present.. See I never did the abortion and now our baby is with us.. And that's what matters the most.. So, just leave this topic.." she chipped in one breath and tried to take her hand back..
"No, I wanna know, Hemal.. So, just tell me.." he was stubborn..
"Okay, fine, listen then.. I thought you would never accept the baby.. You were so afraid of commitments back then.. You, yourself had a terrible childhood.. And a child is a huge deal, I wasn't sure whether you were ready for it or not..
I was your only family, you used to be so possessive about me, you never wanted to share me with anyone..
I thought you would feel that the baby snatched me away from you and moreover you never liked kids back then.. You used to call them trouble makers..
And I loved you too much, Dhruv.. You always were my first priority.. But I never told you that because of your commitment issues..
And I never wanted you to love me because I do..
You were so twisted when it came to relationships and commitments, and I didn't want to impose responsibilities of a child on you..
I thought it would make things worse for you..
That's why I found abortion was the only choice for me, for us..
I booked an appointment for abortion and I did show up at the hospital, but I couldn't do it, I couldn't kill my baby..
Before the procedure the doctor wanted to confirm that there wasn't any complication.. So, she performed ultrasonography on me, and that was the very first time I saw my baby..
At that time she wasn't even looked liked a baby, she looked liked a blip..
And I fell in love with that blip in an instance..
The thought of abortion was long gone, all I felt then was extreme protectiveness about my baby.. I knew I could fight against the entire universe if I had to in order to protect my baby..
But I could never mustered the courage to fight against my love for you..
I was so afraid that you would ask me to get rid of my baby or even if you would accept it for my sake, you could never love it..
And neither I wanted my baby to grow up in any kinda tensed up environment nor I wanted you two to compete for my affection..
So I.."
"You left.. Yeah, I can understand..
You thought I would ask you to kill my baby.." Dhruv's voice held so much of pain that it brought tears in her eyes..
"Dhruv, I didn't know that you would be happy knowing about our baby, otherwise I wouldn't have left India with our baby.." she tried to explain herself..
"Hey, it's okay, I'm not mad at you.. I know you hadn't the slightest idea about my feeling..
I never told you, in fact I, myself recognized my true feelings for you really late..
I did so wrong to you, I was so selfish.. I was so engrossed with my own complications that I never tried to know what your feelings were..
And by the time I finally understood my love for you and I was ready to start my family with you, it was too late..
I can understand you were just tryna protect our baby.. And you tried protecting me as well by hiding the truth from me.. You knew it would break me.." he mumbled in hoarse voice..
"Dhruv.." Hemal got up from her chair and embraced a silently sobbing Dhruv..

"I shouldn't have yell at you today.. I was so wrong, Hemal.. You didn't leave and hide the truth about Angel because you wanted to, you had to do all that because of me..
And there I accused you and yelled at you.." he cried feeling ashamed of his earlier deeds..
"It's okay, baby, I didn't mind.. I know knowing about the existence about your daughter when she's suffering from a deathly diseases overwhelmed you.." she tried to comfort him..
"I'm so sorry, Hemal.. You two had to suffer so much because of me.. I promise, from now on I'll do right by your side.. I'll never ever let you and Angel down.." he spoke with determination..
"We know you will do everything and anything for us because you love us so much.. And you should know that we love you too, so stop crying, it makes us feel bad.." she chipped cutely and kissed his forehead..
"Yeah, okay.. I won't cry anymore.. I can't change what happened in the past but I can promise that I'll be with you two every second from now.. And I'll stay strong and brave for you both.." he rubbed off the tears of his cheeks and smiled a little..
"That's better, dadda.." she too smiled at him and got back to her chair..
Rest of the evening they sat in a comforting silence and adored their little girl's serene face while she slept peacefully and prayed to their stars to keep her safe and sound..
