42. The Truth.

Mark's view:

I have never seen anything like it. She looks almost vampire like but also not at the same time. I am so confused but then I remember my father telling me about vaewolves. I glance at Isabella and see each pupil is a different shape, each iris a different colour.

Her right sclera has turned from white to black and her iris is red while her left pupil is the shape of a paw and her iris is golden. She has fangs larger than vampires ones, even double the size.

"Isabella," I say, looking at her.

"Mark, darling," she replies back, almost robotic. A smile invades her features, and she stalks towards me.

A part of me didn't think it was her but it looked like her and acted like her. It had to be her.

"I, uh..." Words have left me and all I can do was stare at her. "I just wanted to wish you goodnight."

Fuck. Why did I say that? I have just embarrassed myself. I turned on my heels to leave when a hand grabs my shoulder and pushes me against the wall. Isabella's face was just inches away from mine.

"Why don't you stay a little while longer, darling?" she asks, a big smile on her face. Her eyes look me up and down while her index finger traces circles around my chest.

I was afraid. Very afraid. But I couldn't let her see it. I wanted her, I really didn't but I just couldn't. Hurting her was the last thing I wanted. She had me pinned against the wall with her intense gaze and I couldn't get away.

"You smell delicious," she says, licking her lips.

My body felt stiff as if it was concrete. I wanted to look away, I really did but I couldn't. She was captivating. This was bad. Very bad. There was no way I could let her see me like this.

Before I can stop her, she leans forward and licks the side of my neck then plants kisses along it. I felt hot but scared in a way. She could kill me in an instant if she wanted to. Something inside of me felt awakened. I bit my lip and closed my eyes.

Things turned for the worst when I feel something sharp at my neck. Pain fills my senses when I realise she is sinking her fangs into my neck. I bite down on my lip to stop myself from yelling out in pain.

She is feeding off me. The one thing I was never prepared for. I wanted to stop her but I couldn't. I start to feel dizzy after a small while.

"Isabella," I whisper, my voice breaking in the middle of the word.

I don't think she hears me so I just stare straight ahead at the window. If she doesn't stop soon, things will turn for the worst.

After what feels like an eternity, she stops, pulls out and stares at me with a big smile on her face. I could have probably pulled her off my by her hair but the truth is I am scared of her in this state. She is silent and my chest feels heavy.

"Get some sleep. I'll talk to you tomorrow, darling." I took her hand and helped her into bed.

She stared up at me so I kissed her forehead and slipped back out of the room. The hallway seems a lot longer than I remember. Everything was double even triple. I felt like I was going to just drop onto the floor but I held onto the wall. I wish I had changed into my vampire form but it was way too late now.

"Mark?" Vienna's voice echoed through the hall. "Mark, what happened?"

I leaned against the wall and stared at Vienna. Everything seemed to become blurry and I wasn't sure where my sister was actually standing. "It's true. She really is a Vaewolf. They were right."

"What are you talking about, Mark? Those creatures do not exist anymore." Vienna's voice tint of anger and disbelief.

"It's true. She fed off me." I drop down onto my knees and stared at the ground, Tears invaded my eyes and I felt my consciousness slipping.

"Mark!" Loud footsteps rushed towards me.

"I'm fine. I just need some rest." My breath comes out deep and ragged. Darkness starts to take a hold of me. "Leave me be."

"I can't just leave you, Mark."

"Leave me, woman! I told you I'm fine. We'll talk tomorrow."

It is at that moment that I realise I couldn't leave Isabella and let her fend the world on her own. I had to talk to her and make her aware of everything. She has to know the truth. Vienna knew something. It is written all over her face when I spoke to her. I stalked down the hall and swing her bedroom door open, letting it slam against the wall.

She jumps up and for a second I thought she was going to hit her head on the fan connected to the ceiling. "What the fuck, Mark?"

"You're hiding something. Spit it out." I stare at her and cross my arms. "Don't you dare say you aren't."

"There's no going around this, is there?" she asks.

"Fuck no. Tell me or I will find out the hard way." I slide down the wall and sit on the floor, making myself comfortable.

"There is... Vaewolves are real, I used to date one. He was the only existing one." Vienna stared at the floor and avoided eye contact with me.

"And? What happened? Don't give me these coded sentences crap." My breath is heavy and I lean my head to the side.

"It happened over a hundred years ago. We met while I was walking down the street. He was sweet, quite the charmer. As far as I was concerned he was like us, vampires. Little did I know he was lying to me." Vienna looks off to the distance.

"Get to the freaken point woman. I don't have all night," I urge, frustration welling up inside me.

"Relax, geez. As I was saying, one night I went hunting for blood and I saw him. He saw me. His fangs were huge, each pupil was a different shape. I didn't even see him move when he had me pinned against the tree. The—"

I cut her off immediately. "I don't want to hear about you two doing the deed. No way."

She glares at me and clears her throat. "We didn't do that. What's wrong with you? As I was saying, he almost attacked me until he realised it was me. I've never ran home so fast in my life, bubba. Anyway, the next day he came over to see me and tried to apologise but I was having none of it. He told me everything about him and who he was. After the second time, he tried to attack me, I broke it off."

"Vienna, I'm sorry," I say and look at the ground. It was as if someone knocked the air out of me. I hadn't known about any of this.

It was at that moment that I realised we had to speak to Isabella tomorrow and it could wait no longer.

--

The morning arrives quickly and I still wasn't prepared. I pace back and forth in the hallway, fidgeting with my black shirt.

"Will you stop?!" Vienna hissed, through her bedroom door.

"I forgot you have sensitive hearing sis," I say with a small smile.

"Idiot," she mumbles as she goes back inside her room.

I take a deep breath and head towards Isabella's room. This can go one of two ways. She can either be calm or slap me and I don't know which one will come first. I knock on her door and wait.

"Come in," she yells out.

I take a deep breath in, twist the handle and enter. She is sitting on her bed in her white pyjamas with red hearts on them and she looked cute. For a moment it distracted me from what I wanted to talk to her about. Her eyes stared up at her like a little puppy looking up at its owner.

"What's up, Mark?" she asks, leaning her head to the side.

"We need to talk," I reply, sitting on the end of her bed facing her.

"Sounds serious," she says, crossing her legs over the blanket.

I laugh nervously and stare at the wall. If Vienna was in the room with me she'd have already blurted everything out but I could never do that.

"Kind of. I don't even know how I am going to tell you this." I stare down at my hands, my mind racing over the thousands of possible ways to tell her about this secret life that she is now apart of.

"Tell me, Mark. It's okay." She rests her hand under my chin and makes me look at her. "Please."

She is adorable. The way her eyes stared at me, pleading me tell her.

I sigh. "Isabella, there is a world of creatures you don't know about that exists." I took a deep breath in. "I'm not human."

My eyes met hers. Her face is itched with confusion. "I don't follow. What do you mean?"

I really have no idea how I am going to explain this to her. "Have you ever read books about vampires and werewolves?"

She nods and rests against the head of the bed.

This is the hardest part for me. "Well, they are real."

She stares at me, blinking as if she is expecting me to tell her it was a joke or something

I clear my throat. "I am one of them. You... You are one of us, just a different kind."

She learns her head to the side, her eyes burning into me. "I don't know what you mean, Mark. You look human and you are young, like me."

I smile. She was so innocent. "I stopped aging when I was 18 or 19 years old. This is my human self, Isabella. When I change into my true form, I have fangs, a cloak, and longer, sharper nails. And you—"

"How old are you really?" she cuts me off.

"I—Well." I took a deep breath in. "I'm 138 years old."

"Come again?" Her eyes go wide and for a moment I thought they would pop right out of her head. "I hope you aren't playing a practical joke on me or so help you, Mark."

"Would I ever joke about something like this?" If looks could kill, I'd be dead right about now. "You're a vaewolf Isabella."

She was silent for a while then she finally spoke. "What the fuck is a vaewolf?!"

Great. I didn't think this far ahead. "They are a mix of Vampires and werewolves. They are a whole lot stronger than my specie." I took a deep breath in.

"Why did you lie to me all this time?" Tears well up in her eyes and it makes me want to pull her close to me and hug her.

"I didn't want to but I had to so I could protect my identity so the humans don't find out and kill us all. We went by this far without getting caught and we aren't gonna risk it all now." I look her in the eyes and smile. "You are beautiful Isabella and—"

"How many?" she asks.

"Huh?" My eyes widen. What did she mean?

"How many girls have you fallen for?"

"None, apart from you. You are the first. I must say, you are a fine specimen." I sigh. "My parents have been pressuring me to get with someone for over a hundred years, sweetheart."

"So even your kind can't get out of relationships? That's nice." She pauses and stares at me some more. "You are hiding something. What is it?" She leans back and crosses her arms.

A lump forms in my throat. There was not enough time in the day to even begin explaining everything. The one thing I can't tell her is about her mother being my enemy.

"I have to go," she said finally.

"You can't. Not yet. It's too dangerous." I stared into her eyes and took a deep breath.
