Prolouge 4: Something.. forgotten

Charlotte was an organized woman, constantly on the move. She was a medical student, with a  bright career in her future. Anything that stood in her way was conquered and left in the dust, the way cancer would conquer someone's organs. She didn't forget things; in fact, those things forgot her.

Well, okay, she did forget things, but only a few times, though!

Fine, more than a few times.

And she would not admit anything more than that.

Perhaps she had forgotten that Marvin and Trina were coming over because, well, she wasn't too excited for them to come over. See, Marvin and Trina were the chaotic neutral of her friend group. By that, she meant that they were bland and white. Marvin could be firey and energetic, while Trina was; well, Trina.

Charlotte set her phone down on the table, shaking her head at Cordelia. "I can't believe I forgot that they were coming over..."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Cordelia whined softly and pouted."I could've cooked something amazing!"

Charlotte shrugged. Maybe she didn't forget. No, she just hoped Marvin and Trina would forget. She really didn't hate them, but she hated their relationship. It was obvious that there wasn't love there, it made her feel lucky to know someone like Cordelia.

And even though the two, best described as mashed potatoes, were not too interesting- the tension between them sure was. It could've been cut by any of the dull knives Cordelia had sitting in her drawer.

As for Cordelia cooking something amazing... she wouldn't say anything about that.

"It was a week ago, and honestly it just.. Slipped into conversation, I kind of forgot until right now," Charlotte lied easily and wrapped an arm around Cordelia's shoulders. "Next time someone comes over, I'll tell you."

Cordelia raised an eyebrow, but didn't say much afterwards. What was there to question? How could her Charlotte ever lie to her?

Charlotte ran her fingers through Cordelia's blonde curls, admiring every featurette of her girlfriend. Her gray-blue eyes that reminded her of rainy days that she spent curled up beside her, reading a book and shifting under the covers. Cordelia's long hair that almost always smelled like coconuts, and her thin lips that were perfect for kissing. Her skin was delicate, a nice rosy yet pale tone, free from blemishes- only beauty.

She loved Cordelia, more than anyone could ever know, and as she pulled her fingers out of her hair, her breath hitched. How could she know- how could she possibly worship- how could she love this Aphrodite?

There were no possible flaws, not physically, in her Cordelia. Cordelia was her joy, her drug, her relief from the stress.

To be fair, another contribution to her forgetting Marvin and Trina existed was the stress that came from her being a medical student. She never wanted to depend on Cordelia, or anyone else. Sometimes she just didn't say the things on her mind, and the things on her mind were constantly fleeting- so was she to blame if she forgot, just this once?

Part of her conscious argued that, while the other part of her conscious wanted to slap her upside her head. Then again, her consciousness wasn't physical, so did it matter?

What had happened had already happened. So why did she feel so bad? Why was she so guilt ridden?

The knock on the door knocked her out of her thoughts.

She exchanged a brief look with Cordelia and shrugged, they could only hope this night went well.

But prayers weren't always enough for God.
