1 Chess
Our queen moves with grace and purpose
Her anger supressed, regal poise her choice
The knights, the bishops, move to her bidding
The king stays behind the castle hiding
The rook protects him at her command
And in the court of black and white
Shades of grey do rule the land
The game of chess in olden times
Played on the board, a rigid grid
Of squares precisely eight squared true
If life were only just as plain
Perhaps the Queen, my mother
Would favor love over logic
Like the King my who is my father
Who taught me, although I am the pawn,
The littlest one has the power
