Chapter 3
"I've scanned the Jadeite and turns out that it's traceable," Donnie said.
We were near his computers watching what he does.
"If only you can enclose the Jadeite in a box or something to bounce back the signal so they wouldn't find it," Mikey suddenly said.
We all stared at him.
"What?" He asks.
"You just came up with an actual plan that could work," Donnie replied.
"Sweet," he opens a can of Crush.
"Anyway, as long as I find the right material to bounce or scramble the signal of the tracker then anyone who tries to track it won't be able to," Donnie says, "I'll get to work on that. But in the meantime someone needs to take care of the Jadeite."
"I'll do it," Vern says.
I scoff, then start laughing.
"What?" He asks me.
"Dude, no offense, but I don't think you'll be able to fight off the Foot Clan if it came to it," I said.
"I can fight."
"Okay, if you can flip me then you can take the Jadeite."
I hold out an arm for him to flip me. He quickly grabs it and tries to twist it to flip me. I hold my ground, and stand still and stong. He struggles...and struggles...and struggles. Then he stops.
"You know I can't hurt a girl," he defends himself, "besides its hard to flip someone."
I prove a point by grabbing his arm and twisting it so he flips over and lands on his back.
"You-ugh, got lucky," Vern says standing up.
"I'll take the gem," I say grabbing the Jadeite.
April's phone goes off.
"I've got to go, news station has me doing some story about Caitlyn Jenner," April said after checking her phone.
"I'll come with you," Vern said.
"So, Donnie when's the safe gonna be done, cause I don't want to be fighting the Foot off all day," I say.
"By my calculations it'll take me a few days while I gather the materials," Donnie said.
"Hey Victoria your motorcycle is on Donnie's screen," Mikey said.
I go and check it out. Some douchebag with a hockey stick and in a hockey mask is checking out my motorcycle. Then he gets on!
"Looks like he's gonna steal your ride," Raph says, "hey, where are you goin'?"
"To break someone's legs," I said running out of the lair.
When I got to the surface the masked guy was still on my motorcycle.
"That ain't yours," I said stepping out of the shadows.
The guy didn't even seem surprised he simply looked up and hopped off the motorcycle and grabbed his hockey stick.
"Back off," he said.
"Yeah, real tough guy aren't ya?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't hurt girls," he said, "especially if they're small, weak, and defenseless."
"You don't even know me," I said.
"By the looks of it you couldn't be older than fifteen," he referred to my small figure.
"I'm 19."
"Close enough."
Some police sirens started up couple of blocks away.
"Well, I gotta go," he started to leave.
"Wait," he turns to face me, "you think that you're gonna just come here and almost steal my ride and then leave."
"Yeah, and thanks for this," he held up my keys.
I must've left them in the ignition. Great I'm gonna get a lecture from April.
"Hey!" I started after him.
He ran off. I followed and he started to climb up fire escapes. I jumped and flipped into the rooftops and started after him.
He jumped and flipped over the rooftops and alleys. I kept close behind him.
"Stop!" I was right behind him...when he stopped. I ran right into his back and fell back.
"You should watch where you're going," the guy said smugly. Then he tossed me the keys.
"What the hell is wrong with you? You take my keys just to give them back?"
He crouched down so I saw the detail in his mask. Using the hockey stick to push my chin up towards him he spoke.
"Nothing's wrong with me. There is however something wrong with this city, crime is rising and so is the Foot Clan. Someone's gotta keep it in check."
"That's what the cops are for," I say.
"Please, what good are they gonna do? Besides, between you and me, I've gotten word that the cops have been paid off by the Foot Clan."
I push away his hockey stick and his face.
"Stay safe, girly," He jumped down the fire escape.
Getting up I didn't go back to the sewers. Instead I headed towards the police station.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"NYPD, how can we be of assistance?" A chubby police officer with a mustache asks me when I walk into the police station.
"Hi, I'm doing a report for my, um, Media Class at the university and it's on how the NYPD kept the Foot Clan from doing any more damage to the city," I replied.
Immediately I noticed how tense the officer got, "Well, it's been hard. The Foot Clan has been out of action since the spiral from the Sacks industry fell. We have gotten a few reports that've turned out to be false when investigated."
"Hmm, I'm going to ask you this once officer and I would love if you answered truthfully."
"As truthful as the law requires me to."
"Okay, I really don't care if the law says something else, but there have been rumors going around that the Foot Clan is still growing and active, and the NYPD has been paid to keep quiet. What do you have to say about this?"
The officer was basically sweating at this point, "Yes, I've heard of these rumors, but they are just mere rumors that some punk kid started spreading. I suggest you just leave it at that and mind your own business, mam."
"Okay, thank you for...well absolutely nothing," I smiled sarcastically and left abruptly.
"Hey! Come back here!" He called out.
I broke into a run. As I ran through traffic cars honked their horns. I paused for a moment when I heard something on a police radio that made my heart skip a beat.
"We have a 10-18 for a young unknown teenage girl, short dark brown hair of Japanese descent, has a scar on her collar bone, wanted for suspicious activity at NYPD station."
Pulling my hood over my head I kept going. Once I got out of the streets I made my way towards April's apartment.
But once I arrived I noticed three police cars parked outside of the building.
"Shit," I muttered.
Going around to the side of the building I jumped up and grabbed a hold of the window ledge that led to April's room. Or at least I think it does.
Opening the window I climbed inside. Then I heard a gasp.
Turning around I saw a small girl holding a teddy bear standing at the doorway of the room. She looked at me then at something behind her.
My face went pale when I saw an officer searching the apartment for what my guess is me. Luckily, his back was turned to us.
I put my index finger to my lips signaling the girl to keep quiet.
"Hide," She whispered pointing to the closet door.
I nodded and carefully got into the closet and closed the door.
I heard voices outside.
"-to alert us of any suspicious activity you see or if you spot the girl that matches the description," a deep voice said.
"It would be easier of I saw a picture of some sort of the girl you're looking for," a women's voice said.
"That's the problem. We don't have any photographs of the girl, nor do we have any records of her. That's why it's imperative we find her," the deep voice explained, "Now, as for you young missy, I hope you tell your mother if you see anything. New York is counting on you, too." He spoke to the little girl.
"I will," She said sweetly. Praying that she wouldn't give me away I listened for the voices to fade away, and for the door to close.
"You can come out now," the little girl called out from the other side of the door.
Opening it carefully I stepped out.
"Hey, thanks for not giving me away, kid," I said.
"You wouldn't hurt me," she said.
"How would you know?"I ask her.
"Just a feeling I had," She said, "you should go. My mommy might come back in."
"Thanks again kid," I nodded and climbed out the window.
"My name's Kelly, not kid," I hear her say as I climb up the side of the building.
I smile and quickly try to find April's apartment.
"Where have you been?!?" April grabs me by the shoulders and shakes me slightly.
"I-" she cuts me off.
"The police just searched my apartment looking for a teenage girl with a scar on her collarbone," She continues.
"Anyone could have a scar in their collarbone," I scoffed.
"They also have absolutely no past record of the girl's existence," She raises an eyebrow.
I let out a nervous laugh, "Hehe, well about that...you see what had happened was..."
"What did happen?"
"The cops are being paid off by the Foot Clan, so more than likely Shredder has them looking for me because I have the Jadeite stone and the blood to replicate the elemental mutagen."
April stares at me like I've burst into flames...again.
"The cops are being paid off by the Foot Clan?"
"Yes, to keep quiet about the attacks and stuff."
"Are you okay?"
"Mhmm," I nod, "Luckily, they only have a brief description of me and not a picture so it'll be a bit harder for them to actually find me."
April sighed and looked at her watch, "How about we hang out tonight? Vern and his girlfriend invited me to this new cafe that opened. But frankly I don't feel to being a third wheel."
"Uh, I don't know..."
"C'mon, Victoria, we haven't hung out once since you get back."
"Fine, but I'm not promising that I won't embarrass Vern in front of his lady friend," I grin.
"Didn't think you wouldn't," She smiled and grabbed her bike helmet.
"Woah, woah, wait," I say as she turns back to me, "We're taking my motorcycle."
"Uh, no you're taking you're motorcycle and I'm taking my bike," She said.
"We're getting you a car asap," I shake my head. April laughs as we head out.
