Chapter Eleven
I found myself over the course of the week getting more and more excited for this weekend's adventure. By Friday I was practically jumping for excitement.
I could tell Ray was excited too, and I think the weekend would really meant something to him, because it really meant something to me. It felt like... Well it's kind of hard to explain, but I felt sort of like a life-or-death situation of me and Ray's friendship. I'd been a little distant with Ray lately, what with his popularity, and I think if we did something special together it would heal that paper cut in our friendship right up.
Mason had decided not to go, frightened of what we would be doing. Also, he might of realized that it would be better if it was just Ray and I.
I wasn't sure what we'd be doing actually, but I did know that Ray had something specially designed for me.
I then remembered the last time something met this much to me in our friendship.
My tenth birthday party.
Turning ten mattered to everyone, even non-supers, because well you know, first two-digits! For supers, it was especially important, it was when we were granted to start training to use our powers.
My parents were busy getting ready for my little sister's birthday party that was two days after my birthday, so they kind of forgot about doing something for me. But Ray had promised he would do something grand for me. That it would be the best birthday I'd ever had
I was looking foward to it, and I knew I could trust Ray.
Guess what?
He forgot.
He promised for a good day, I even made him cross his heart, and he forgot! It had meant so much to me that he would do something so nice. So for him to break his promise was to break this little ten-year-old girl's heart.
It gets worse.
He forgot because he went to someone else's party that day!
When I found out he went to Melody Strang's birthday party, I was so upset. Melody was already my nemesis, but this birthday letdown just made me hate her more.
I eventually forgave Ray, of course, but that is grudge that's not gonna budge.
Ray seems so sincere this time, I absolutely, 100% sure that this Saturday will be great.
