Chapter 16

A/N: This song isn't technically for this chapter but I think it suits Violet quiet well...

They think I'm insane, they think my lover is strange but I don't have to fucking tell them anything.

After a well rested sleep I woke up with sore thighs and a sweet ache between them.

I twisted in my bed trying to hold the warmth and sleep in. I was well aware of the heavy arm caging my waist and the bare chest against my back. The funny part about this situation was I didn't mind it at all.

I twisted again to face him, only to see his eyes closed and lips turned up in a lopsided grin.

He was so not sleeping.

"Aren't you supposed to leave before I wake up?" I whispered, knowing all too well he'll hear me.

"And why would I do that?" eyes still close, his question threw me off.

"Stereotype?" Was my weak answer. Honestly I genuinely had nothing better to tell. All that I presumed about him was based off of the stereotypes I was fed.

"And what exactly does this stereotype tell you, I'm curious." His eyes now open and smoldering looked at me with great amusement.

Oh, what the hell.

"That you are supposed to be a detached, emotionless, jerk that walks around with a gun and is dripping with power and ego. You have to be cold, but from what I have observed you are not cold at all, sometimes you are caring which is very confusing for me. You have to have a harem of women who are at your beck and call and more often than not work in a close proximity with you, house workers maybe? You have to have no weak spots and the loyalty to your crime family is above everything. To list a few." I breathed out in one go.

Pablo and Gustavo were running around in my head right about now.

"How do you have all these wild assumptions of what I do and who I am? Tell me, have you been to a cartel?" he asked me, looking at me with curiosity and amusement.

"Of course not! But I am not entirely uneducated. I have seen Narcos." I huffed slightly embarrassed that my knowledge of his world came from Netflix.

But in my defense, Narcos was based on true events.

"Che cazzo?! (What the fuck!?) You are acquainted to the Narcos? Which one?!" for some reason he looked completely horrified. What?! It is a good show!

"Columbian." I shrugged. I am still yet to watch the Mexico one.

"Cazzo, tesoro! (Fuck, treasure) That's a dangerous one. Roza is one sick cagna. (Bitch)" he mumbled burying his head in his hands.

"Who the hell is Roza?" I asked a bit perplexed, am I missing a character here?

"The head of the cartel?" he too now looked equally confused.

"No, that's Pablo." I countered. "I mean Gustavo too has an equal part in it since they are almost partners but the main guy is for sure Pablo."

"That can't be true, I know for a fact its Roza. And who are these people you speak of?" he almost scoffed.

"This is the one thing I religiously keep up with, don't you dare question me." I growled out a little offended.

"You are a woman of the law, why would you keep up with it?" his voice suddenly sounded very guarded.

This got me angry.

"Just because I am a lawyer, doesn't mean I can't have other interests and how dare you question me on this, I know for a fact that I am right." I challenged him, sitting up a little straighter causing the sheet to slide down a little.

"This is my terrain, Columbia is under my protection, so yes, I do know what I am talking about. I met Roza last month and that donna orribile (horrible woman) was still alive, breathing and in charge." He growled back, his hands snaking around my hips and flipping me over as he straddled my waist in one swift move.

"Wait what?" I looked up at him in surprise and suddenly it dawned on me.

He thought I was talking about a real cartel, oh shit.

I did the one thing that none would've expected of me in this situation, trapped under a very dangerous and at the moment a very angry man, I laughed. I laughed so hard that I had tears rolling down my cheeks in no time.

"You find this amusing?" his voice lost a little bit of the anger as his eyes softened watching me laugh.

"N-no, I mean, oh god this is going to sound so stupid..."I trailed off looking at him, the smile on my face unmoving.

"You need to explain before I find that bastardo Pablo and rip his head off." His tone was calm and he had a tiny smile on his face, smartass was mocking me for the stereotype comment.

"Narcos is a series on Netflix that's based off of true events; I got my intel from there." I said shrugging.

His face registered shock which swiftly changed into amusement.

He bent down immediately and captured my lips in a sweet kiss; our lips molded together as I felt his hands caress my cheeks. This was by far the sweetest kiss I had ever had.

"You." Kiss "Are" kiss "My" kiss "Trouble"

"Well if I'm such an inconvenience..." I whispered against his lips and tried to move away. As expected his arms tightened around me causing the smile on my face to widen.

"A trouble I want by my side for a very, very long time." He whispered looking into my eyes.

I knew it was wrong; hearing him say those words shouldn't have done to me what it was currently doing it me. He was wrong for me and I knew it, the thing was I didn't care. For the first time in a very long time I felt truly happy and I wanted to hold on to that feeling for just a little while longer, that's it.

Before any one of us could speak again, alarms on both our phones rang simultaneously.

"Time to go back to the reality." I whispered as he got off me.

He rolled back on his side and sat up, staring at me as I got out of the bed. I didn't dare stray my eyes away from his face, knowing for a fact that if I dared looked anywhere below his neck, we were not leaving this bed for a very, very long time.

It took me roughly half an hour to shower up and revel in the fact that I smell so much like him, to realize that because we are in his room, none of my clothes are here. I dreaded stepping out of the room in my towel, knowing his reaction would be swift and would surely get me late to work.

As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, I saw that the room was empty and there n a very rumpled bed lay my burgundy dress, underwear and a note with scribbly almost incomprehensible handwriting.

I didn't trust myself to be in the room when you stepped out looking all wet and sexy , plus I don't want you roaming the corridor in a towel. I don't want to kill my men for seeing at what is mine. Your things needed for the day are safely in my car. We're going to the office together.

I made breakfast, hope you're hungry ;)

-L

Dressing in the attire he picked up for me, I went downstairs only to see him wrapping some kind of rolls in a foil and placing them next to two white cups with lids on them.

"It's almost seven and I know you like to reach the office before the early morning cock crows, so I packed us our breakfasts. Let's go." He said handing a cup and a roll to me.

"And how do you know that?" I said quirking an eyebrow at him.

"Christopher is very talkative when given the right incentive." He smirked at me.

I just rolled my eyes. I couldn't imagine Christopher ratting out about me but I would let him have this. I was in a good mood for a change and I was in no hurry to change that status.

As we walked out of the house, Lucca went ahead and opened the door to his Cadillac for me. My lips instantly quirked up when I remembered that not too long ago he told me he would only ever open the door for me if I slept with him.

He looked up at me and smirked too, I guess he remembered as well.

"Am I going to ever find out what exactly those rolls are?" I said eying the foiled rolls that he placed on the consol.

I took a sip of the coffee for the first time and instantly let out a moan. What coffee was this? It was perfect.

"I gather you like it?" he said unwrapping a foiled roll and handing it over to me.

It looked like French Nutella pancakes rolled up in perfect rolls of heaven.

"I love it. How did you get time to go on a coffee run and make pancakes?" I asked taking a bite out of the pancake as he reversed out.

"I didn't go out for coffee, I make my own coffee. You forget, I am from Italia." He smiled a little, that genuine charming kind of smile that I don't see that often.

"Wait, you're telling me that this coffee is from Italy?" I asked, a little baffled.

"Si, it is known as Marocchino, it is my favorite. Just the right amount of cocoa and espresso if you ask me." He replied, very brazenly might I add.

"I might just go and live the rest of my days out from wherever the hell you got this, its so good." I blurted out absentmindedly.

"I'll be sure to inform my papa, he loves growing his own coffee and would be very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. And as for you living out in Italia, that can be arranged, the coffee is from my hometown." He smirked at me.

"Maybe I won't put up a fight if you promise me more of this coffee."I said trying to lighten up the suddenly tense atmosphere.

"I'll see what I can do." he winked at me.

After that I finished my pancakes and coffee in record time and the rest of the trip was pretty silent, but this silence was not awkward, rather it was very comfortable.

Pulling up to the office parking lot was weird, because it felt natural. I mean, I didn't feel any trepidation in entering the office with him by my side more so because I couldn't give two fucks about who thinks what.

We sit in our respective seats for a few seconds more before I turn around and ask him the question that has been bothering me since this morning.

"You do understand I don't do one night stands, right? And if you want this fuck buddy relationship to continue, I absolutely do not want you barging in my office and kissing me senseless for all to see." My voice was stern and expression cold. That way he knew I meant business.

"I will kiss you whenever I want and wherever I want, you know why, Trouble? Because you're mine and whatever we have is so much more than just fuck buddies as you so eloquently put it." His finger made a light trail from my cheek to chin to the bottom of my throat.

"Ok." I said getting out of the car.

I wasn't going to fight it. For some fucked up reason I liked him and he had made his intentions very clear from day one. I had a lot on my plate to deal with which offered me no luxury to be conflicted with myself. And if he hurts my sister or breaks my heart, I will make sure he regrets.

I got out of the car at the same time he did and we walked towards the office.

He opened the doors to the reception for me but didn't enter himself. I turned back and raised a brow at him.

"I will not be joining you today. I have business to take care, somewhere else. I will pick you up at 6.30, per usual." He informed me with a serious look.

I had a hunch what exactly this business was.

"Why did you come here at all then?" I asked a little miffed, I didn't know why.

"Because I could. Don't scare away the poor children. I will take you out for dinner and we will talk." He said pulling me back towards him and giving me a small peck on the cheek.

"How do you know about the associates?" I asked him, it was just decided yesterday. I was with him the whole day.

"Christopher ran it by me before announcing, I found the idea quiet amusing." He grinned, mirth shining in his eyes.

Of course he did, I keep forgetting that Lucca was a named partner in this firm.

***

Returning to my routine grind after this very physically and emotionally exhaustive weekend was a relief.

As soon as I entered my office, I was surrounded by familiar scents; coffee, freshly photocopied papers and leather.

"Start talking."I muttered to the human body slumped on my very new couch. I set up my laptop and fired it up as soon as Clark began to give me my schedule.

Same old, same old expect for the meeting with the babies. That was all on my snooty boss, now because of him, I have some 15 associates on my ass. Just great.

Suddenly I stopped going through my files and looked up at Clark in shock.

"Repeat the last part again, will you?" I say not actually believing he said that.

"You have a two o'clock with Caley Styles." He repeated, trying very hard to suppress a grin.

"Explain." I asked, a little amused.

"As you know today she starts school, and she knew she would need to talk to you so she asked me to book an appointment to make sure no client of yours barges in. smart girl." He smirked at the end.

Of course she was. I smirked back.

"Before anything else, I have the papers you wanted ready." Clark said handing me a very thick manila with the court seal still intact.

I gulped as I put it in my desk. I needed Christopher for this conversation.

"OK, now onto your first task. The Associate Meeting, please be gentle." He said following behind me as I walked out.

I scoffed. They don't need gentle after Porter, they need discipline and fear.

***

The cubicle room was scattered with no more than 15 associates and according to the files I was given that's all I was supposed to handle, good for me.

The room was a mess though, the files carts were overflowing, paralegals were loitering, the associates were doing more of talking than work and as I walked in the room, the mother of all catastrophes happened; I stepped on a paper which when I picked up found that it was an unfiled subpoena.

"What the hell do you think you people are doing?" I sounded calm but my voice was a decibel or two higher than usual.

I heard several choruses of the acknowledgement of my name and each and every associate and paralegal present looked petrified, as they should.

"I don't need to know my name, I need an answer. What the hell do you think you are doing?" I seethed. Not one soul spoke.

Behind me I could hear a new pair of feet coming this way.

Whoever it was that came stopped right behind me.

"What is happening?" Christopher whispered to Clark, only loud enough so I could barely hear.

"Room was a chaos when she came in and then she stepped on an unfiled subpoena." Clark whispered back.

"Shit." shit was right.

Throughout this whole conversation, I never once broke eye contact with any of the associates.

"Ok then, since you have decided to mimic fucking mutes, let me ask you this; who the fuck was supposed to file this subpoena? Answer me fast or I will fire every single one of you before you can blink again." I growled out, waving the subpoena in my hand.

A petite blond stepped forward and looked me in the eye, she was visibly shaking.

"Name?" I asked curtly.

"S-sandra McCleaval." She seemed terrified.

"I-I was supposed to file that for Mr. Avery for his ongoing case but t-then Janet from HR called me for some personal reasons and I had leave i-immediately. W-when I came back, it was gone a-and then we were told y-you would be coming s-soon and i-in that whole thing I forg-got about it." She stuttered her way through the explanation I never I asked her.

"I don't remember asking you for an explanation."I snapped at her.

"You make a mistake, you will face the outcomes. I don't demand explanations, I serve consequences. My day is far too busy to listen to any whiny sagas or correct your mistakes. The next time I see paralegals loitering on this part of the floor without a purpose, I expect you to be ready to find a new job." I affirmed looking at each one in the eye and finally coming back to Ms. McCleaval.

"And for your excellent work Ms. McCleaval, you have just been promoted to the mailroom for the foreseeable future, you give daily reports to Clark and your immediate bosses will be the staff in the mailroom. Feel free to inform Janet from HR that she will be joining you." I told her. She was about to protest when I glared at her which immediately shut her up.

"All the workload that was assigned to her will be equally divided between all of you now. There will be division of labor, some of you will only file subpoenas, some of you will only do pro bonos and some of you will only do research and so on. I want a system established and I need you to work as a perfectly oiled machine.

Your duties assigned will change every week so that you have a chance to practice all aspects of it. You may carry forward an ongoing assignment if need be. Anything less than satisfying and you will be joining Ms. McCleaval and Janet in the mailroom, I have heard it's disgusting and in desperate need of rearrangement.

I will check in after two weeks, I will have Clark keep an eye on you. He will be giving me daily reports and if at the end of two weeks I find someone who has been impressive, I will offer them to be mentored by me or Christopher, your choice. The division in the labor according to the new system has been made, Clark has it. Work hard."

I left behind Clark to sort out the mess and headed for the elevator, Chris got in with me.

"Nicely handled, I was right you know?" he smirked at me.

"About what now?" I rolled my eye at him, kind of amused for some reason.

"That you would be good for them after Porter. He was useless with them. They need someone like you." Chris said with a shrug.

"Thank you." I felt awfully self conscious at being complimented.

"Could you imagine us misplacing subpoenas and loitering when we were associates." Chris asked with a very uncharacteristic chuckle.

"Ha! Your father would've skinned our hides and made us sell them." I shivered.

Christopher father was a superb lawyer, I have never seen one like him till date but he was Satan incarnate to his associates, made us tough, moving forward I suppose.

"Were you there as a control in that room?" I asked, surprising myself at how much playful I sounded.

"Nah, I just wanted to see them squirm, plus you look ridiculously hot when angry, I couldn't have missed that." He winked at me. I slapped his chest

"On that note, you know for some reason I don't remember me agreeing to mentor the kids." He huffed in mock annoyance.

"Huh, must be the old age." I smiled back innocently as I got of the elevator.

"Ok, just for that smile, I won't argue, much." He laughed as he headed for his office.

***

The morning after my meeting with the associates was pretty much boring. Most of it was taken up by the meeting that had been set up with the head of finance and a trusted advisor at IMT, Industry of Mass Communication and Technology. She is a young woman not much older than me, Denise, took up most of my time.

IMT had been Porter's client and was handed over to e by Chris because they were one of our most valuable clients and also because they requested it be me. Upon meeting me, Denise made it very clear that she had hated Porter and that she wanted to terminate our contract a long time ago but only because of our firm's reputation resisted in doing so.

Both of us were cooped up in my office for almost 3 hours because she had a suspicion that a Mr. Harris from the board was laundering money.

"Why do you think he is laundering money? He has been on the board for a lifetime now and is compensated handsomely. He has more money than sense, why did you think he would jeopardize all that for what seems like a few thousand dollars." I asked as soon as I felt that she had started getting a little too emotionally involved than an employee should be.

She looked at me for a minute straight trying to gauge my expressions before taking a deep breath.

"Because of me." She answered, barely above a whisper.

Suddenly gone was the confident and almost ruthless woman that had entered my office and now sat there was a timid and vulnerable little girl.

"I will need something more concrete to work with." I said, looking at her to elaborate.

"As you know IMT was started from scratch by Mr. Gerry and Mr. Harris. Once the company picked up, Harris decided to become a board member and give an input in the company's executive decisions whereas Gerry assumed his position of CEO and overlooked almost everything. For the longest time both Harris and Gerry believed that after Gerry's death the company will go over to Harris and his son because Gerry never fathered any children.

But then a month ago Gerry found out that he had gotten one of his girlfriends, or more accurately one of his side pieces pregnant all those years ago and they had a daughter. So Gerry got the deed changed by Porter to make sure that his daughter received his share of the company, fair and share. Harris got to know this and I overheard him talking to his son in his office that he will get was belonged to hi and no bastard of Gerry is going to stop him." She finished talking.

Honestly if I didn't know any better that sounded like a plot to a very trashy romance novel.

"And how exactly do you know all this and why do you think it's happening because of you?" I asked trying to wrap my head around the whole scenario.

"I am Gerry's bastard daughter." She said looking at me with unshed tears and determined look.

Ok then.

***

Two hours and a very strategic plan later, Denise left my office giving me two things, lots of homework and a horrible headache.

It was already 1.30 and I only had half an hour until Caley came and talked to me about her day. Clark was still a no show which was good, it meant less work for me when it came to the associates. I wasn't that hungry and so I decided to sleep till my sister bombarded me.

It seemed like only seconds later that I heard my door open with a bang as Christopher and Caley come bounding in. she looked beautiful, she wore her white converse, dark blue jeans and a white polo t shirt with a blue denim jacket. Her black bag pack was slung over Christopher's shoulders as he looked at her and smiled. I turned my chair towards her a bit and opened my arms just as he jumped on me.

"I missed you so much!" She hugged my neck almost to the point of choking but I didn't care, I had my baby in my arms again, that's all that mattered.

"I missed you too baby, how was school?" I asked, watching Chris make himself comfortable on my couch.

"It was kind of weird actually, my classmates stared at me a lot, teachers underestimated me and tried to test me but they learnt it the hard way that I was promoted for a reason. I actually ended up correcting my Algebra teacher, he had a hard time shutting the class up because they were laughing so much and then his face turned red." She giggled. I looked at Chris trying to hide his laughter in a very ill concealed cough.

"Baby you didn't purposefully humiliate him, did you?" I asked, a little concerned.

One of the main reasons I didn't want her to skip grades was because I felt that she would become a little cocky, her understanding of her potential could make her cocky. I really didn't want that.

"Not at all, I was so polite to him and when people laughed at him I felt so bad, I went after class to apologize to him. He smiled at me and said its fine and then joked that he couldn't remember the last time a student apologized to him. I thought it was kinda sad." She looked at me with sincere eyes.

"Good girl, now tell me something fun that happened." I was excited myself.

"I made a friend, Ricky. He is a football player and he was very tall. My head reached his tummy." She giggled .

"Oh my, how did you manage to befriend a football player?" I asked.

"Well, in the morning there was this girl, Amy, she was supposed to show me around and stuff but she was very rude to me and told me that I was a know it all brat. Ricky overheard her and told her to beat it. He told me high school girls were weird because girls become whacky when they enter their teens. I told him I was not a teen and he smiled and said that I should stick around with him if I wanted to. After that all the kids were so good to me." She said, turning around and settling on my lap.

"Give me this Ashley's last name." Chris hissed.

"Not happening, you will go all Hulk smash on her if I do, I'll be fine Chrissy. Ricky promised to keep me safe." She snuggled further in my lap.

I am happy Christopher is so protective of her; it makes me feel happy that she has someone for her when I can't be there.

"And what exactly is this Ricky's position on the team?" Chris snarked but I don't think Caley picked up on his tone.

"Starting Quarterback. He told me that's like being the captain or something." She shrugged.

"You know I was also the quarterback of my team." Chris huffed.

Oh god, that ass was actually jealous of a 16 year old kid.

We all talked for one more hour by the end of which Caley had fallen asleep in my arms.

"I'll take her to the daycare and put her to sleep there." He whispered referring to the daycare on the first floor of our building. Caley has slept there more times than I can count.

"Can you come see me after that?" I asked him.

I was actually slightly nervous for this conversation.

I took out the manila that Clark had handed me over this morning and stared at it.

"What are you staring at?" Christopher's voice spoke right next to me.

"Dear god! I almost hit you." I swear I didn't hear him enter. How long was I staring at the manila.

"Not my fault you're in your head daydreaming about McDreamy or McSteamy or whatever you call him." He laughed.

Well Lucca was more like McSexy but you wouldn't catch me saying that out loud.

"We are not discussing Grey's Anatomy or whatever the ever hell you are referring to in your twisted way. I called you because I had an important favor to ask of you." I was more nervous than I cared to admit.

"Are you alright? Is everything ok?" he asked seriously.

I handed him the manila folder.

"Is this about a case?" he asked, a little perplexed now. He looked so confused, it borderlined frustrated.

"I had been thinking about this for quiet a while and now that Lucca has come into my life and doesn't look like he's going anywhere anytime soon, I thought this is for the best." I said and indicated for him to pen the folder.

It is a proper 15 page document with several clauses, sub-clauses and requirements. I can see him grasping the gravity of the situation as he slowly seats himself on the chair across me.

It took him no more than half an hour to go through the whole document.

"You really want this to happen?" he asked, his face more serious than ever.

"Yes, and it's not only because of Lucca but it is for me as well. It would give me some kind of assurance." I shrugged.

"Why me? Why not your friend Lia?" he argued.

"Lia is close to me, but not her. Plus Lia is a free spirit; I don't think anything or anyone can tie her down. She lives in a world of her own. Now for instance, where is she? The hell if I know and you barely know even I you were the last person she talked to. That won't do for me. I need someone who I can count on to be there. And I trust you." I rationalized, it was the truth.

"Ok then, give me a pen." He took a deep breath and signed his name on the bottom right corner.

He handed me the papers and stood up. I went with him till my door.

"Chris?" I called as he was about to step out of my office.

As soon as he turned around, without a thought I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him as hard as I could before letting him go in seconds.

"Thank you." I could hear the gratitude in my voice.

"No thank you. You don't know what it means to me that you have so much faith in me. I am honored to be Caley's guardian if the circumstances don't turn out to be in your favor. I know with Lucca around the chances of that happening is almost zero but for you to trust me with your little sister's life is incredible." He said, giving me a tiny, very genuine smile before leaving.

***

It's almost 7 and I am, I think the last person in the office. Why? Because my ride is running late. See this is why I like to drive on my own.

But I am not complaining that much either, this extra time has given me a chance to look over IMT's financial records, history of lawsuits filed by the employees and several CCTV footages that Denise was able to get for me. I want my homework done thoroughly.

After I am done with my quotaa of IMT for the day I move onto the several first impression reports that Clark had left on my desk before leaving for the day at dot 5.30, I didn't make him stay because the man looked positively crazed with exhaustion and frustration.

Hmm, the associated have potential but no drive. Deep down I know even the duddliest one could become a decent lawyer, I just have to hone them to the best. I could do that.

I was halfway through my report when I heard a frantic knock and the door opening with a slam.

I gave slight smile to the three people who walked in.

Caley made herself comfortable on my lap whereas Lucca and Chris took seats opposite me.

"We came to say bye, me and Chris are leaving but you know what?" Cale couldn't control her excitement.

"What?" I asked with a smile in my voice.

"Lucca has promised to help me with my Italian if he has any free time!" she exclaimed smiling so brightly at Lucca.

"Is that so?"I questioned looking at the said person in question for the first time.

I barely managed to keep in a gasp. His right eyebrow was cut and his knuckles were so badly bruised, his face held a small smile but his eyes were cold and strained.

I was broken out of my observation when I felt Caley wiggle out of my lap and go towards Chris.

"Come on Chris, let's go. I'm hungry. I'll come meet you tomorrow too Vi!"she said and dragged Chris out of my office. My Little Hurricane.

"Do I want to know?" I said looking at his busted eye and bruised knuckles.

"Yes you do. But first I will take you to dinner and then we will talk." He said walking around my desk and coming by my side. He offered me his hand and I took it.

"Ok" I mumbled, curious as to why him getting beat up would cause for some serious talk with me.

Within minutes I had all the necessary files packed and placed properly in my suitcase. With my laptop and files in one hand, Lucca grabbed my other as we walked out of the office.

Huh. I was the last person to leave.

***

Lucca took me to a hole in the wall food place that served the greasiest, most unhealthy food to ever exist. This place was filled with big, bearded scary looking men, women with questionable choice of garments, most likely to be hookers or strippers from the looks of it and no children.

"I know the ambience and crowd is not the best but the food here is to kill for." He promised. "Plus I always like eating the greasiest thing possible after I have fucked someone up." he shrugs.

"Bad guy?" I ask before I can stop myself.

"Very bad" he answers with sincerity.

"Then its ok. Now I skipped lunch and I am starving, since I am new to the place why don't you order for me. Greasier the better." I said looking at the menu, nothing stood out.

"Una donna second il mio stesso cuore (A woman after my own heart). Of course, trouble. I will order for you." For some reason I liked him calling me trouble.

He ordered us something called Knish, two cheese burgers, onion rings, grilled cheese, two huge sodas, French fries and corndog platter.

"What's a knish?" I asked, a little scared of eating something I never heard of.

"It is like a turnover filled with a lot of beef. It is very local in Mexico and South. Rest of the things are very much North American." He shrugged.

I was very impressed with his food knowledge.

"How did you find this place?" I asked, very curious at this point.

"The now owner of this place, Camilla, came to me one night, bloody and bruised with a wailing 10 month old child who had a nasty cut on his head. When she came to me I was fairly new to the city but I had a certain reputation. I helped her." He shrugged as he swirled the water in glass.

"How did you help her?" I asked.

"I made the stronzo she had been married to sign away this place to her and then shot him between the eyes and had my men bury him in the industrial waste ground outside the city. Well it got a little messy before I actually shot him but that's the gist of what happened." He smiled at him.

I felt sick, not because he casually talked about torturing a human but because I didn't feel bad about it. Am I as sick as him?

Our food came shortly after our conversation and boy did he eat. He wasn't lying when he said he was hungry, plus the portions in this place were crazy, it could feed a family!

Somewhere in the middle of our dinner and casual small talk about my day, something he found very amusing when I told him about the associates, we finished it all. I was bursting at my seams, I couldn't possibly move.

"You were right, this place is amazing." I murmured drinking the last of my soda. "I think I put on five pounds." I muttered with a smile.

"We will come by again soon." He promised no wise ass comments, no sarcasm, no nothing. Just a sweet little smile with a promise.

As soon as I the waitress came by with the bill, I grabbed it right of the table before he even had the chance to touch it.

"What do you think you are doing?" he asked, slightly appalled.

"What do you think, wise ass?" I joked.

"You are not paying, trouble!" he looked slightly irritated, getting a little red in the face.

Huh, cute.

"I am the second most highest paid lawyer in New York, I think I can afford 23 dollars and 68 cents." I laughed, slipping thirty dollars in the book before snapping it shut and handing it over to the waitress. "Keep the change." I told her as she beamed at me and walked away.

"You are impossible trouble." He stood and pulled me up from my seat.

"Well, it's the least I could do. You introduced me to an awesome place." I gave him a small smile.

I have been smiling so much these past few days.

Taking my face in his hands he touched my cheeks with the pad of his thumbs and gave me a sweet peck on my lips. That was by far the sweetest kiss he had given me.

Placing his hands in the small of my back, he walked us out.

The car ride back was silent yet oh so comfortable. But the closer we got to the mansion, the more dread seeped into me. There was just this heavy weight looming over me, a feeling of such suffocating trepidation.

My fears came true when Lucca directed us to his office.

"Take a seat, you will need it." He said this in the softest voice possible.

"I heard back from my mole that we placed in the Russian family. We know the reason for their attack on you." He stopped gauging my feelings.

"You and your sister have been on their hitlist for a year now and the second Ivan became boss he put a bounty out. But please know that I have taken precautions. Keeping you away from your sister has thrown them off for a great deal and Caley has had a covert protection for a month now. Nothing will happen to her. And as for you, as long as I am near you, no one will touch you." He explained but my mind was blank.

Why were we on the Russian Mafia shitlist.

"You both were supposed to be dead 10 years ago, the car accident was planned."

"How did you get your bruises then?" I asked, my voice void.

"Our mole brought a prisoner, I had to hammer out some fill in the blanks from him. He wouldn't talk and my in house interrogator was out of town, so I had to dirty my hands a little." he explained, looking at me with caution.

"Oh."

I stared at him for a moment and then the world was black.

In a perfect world, I would have a happy ending.

A/N:

So I updated...I know its very late and there are no excuses but the past month has been a huge, huge emotional steamroller.

First bomb dropped in the form of Avengers Endgame, it literally destroyed me, guys I am not joking I didn't talk to anyone for a few days, kept to myself and just cried ( any fans?), and then there was GOT, I mean, after all these years it's getting over and it just hit me and I wanted to curl up again and cry like a baby.

And then my college was being a complete bitch, let's not even get into that.

And then, the last nail in the coffin, my baby, my dog of 14 years, she passed away. I was so heart broken. I had her when I was 6 and for the past fourteen years we grew up together and then she was just gone,I was crushed. Still am, but it's a little better now. But writing about Violet and Lucca helped.

*Rant over*

Anywho, tell me how you like this chapter.

Why do you think Caley and Violet are on the Russian Mafia shitlist?

I want theories!

Until next time, my beautiful sexy readers! Muah!
