Chapter 8
Halsey is bae...
With fire in her eyes and a passion as dangerous as any other weapon in the world, she wore her heart on her sleeves.
As expected the door to my room opened a few minutes after Lucca left. I knew that it would be Clark but just to stay on the safer side I pointed the gun at the door, my finger resting on the trigger. It was a good thing that I used the spare time to rid myself of all the tubes and wires attached to me.
The person however to come through the door wasn't Clark.
"Whoa...whoa. I surrender. Don't shoot me; I am too smart to die." Jaxton froze at the door. His hands up in surrender with a duffel bag hanging from one.
"What the fuck are you doing here?!" I asked in a low tone, not lowering the gun.
"Clark sent me to get you out of here, he is running a bit late!" he replied immediately. Looking at the gun in my hand, not wavering his gaze at all. He was scared shit.
"Does Lia know you're here?" I asked hoping she didn't because she wouldn't hesitate opening her trap to Linguini.
"No, god no. I promise she doesn't. She would have my head for good if she knew I was helping Clark on this. Now could you please lower your gun or I might just faint." He sounded genuinely scared and looked pale enough to actually faint so I lowered the gun on my side and swung my feet over the bed and stood up.
No sooner I stood up my legs gave out and I fell back on the bed. Jaxton immediately rushed to my side but I held up my hand to stop him right there.
"Are you okay?" he sounded concerned.
"I am fine, let's go." I said as soon as I gained my balance.
"No you are not going anywhere. Not dressed like that." He said looking me up and down.
I looked down to see that I was wearing an over-sized tee shirt and boxer shorts that were few sizes too big for me.
"Well genius, I didn't bring a spare to change. Didn't get the memo that this was a vacation. Whose clothes are these anyways?" I sneered at him.
"Well this genius here has an extra set of clothes, curtsey of Clark. And those are Lucca's clothes you're wearing." He said pointing at me.
Fuck, I was wearing Lucca's clothes?
I grabbed the duffel bag from his hand and went to the en suite bathroom to get changed. We didn't have time for mindless chatter. And I most certainly didn't have the time to process that I was wearing Lucca's clothes.
I had to get out of this place in 20 minutes or less.
As soon as I entered the bathroom I opened the bag. Inside I found a bag from Victoria's Secret, a black tank top, black hoodie and a pair of black ripped shorts. I opened the Victoria's Secret bag to find a black thong and a black strapless bra. He sent me a pair of black boots too.
He sure did love black.
Five minutes later I was out of the bathroom with my gun tucked in the back pocket of my shorts and ready to leave. There was only one problem.
"Hey! My eyes are up here." I hiss seeing that Jaxton was having a very hard time looking away from my legs.
"Um, yeah. Getting you out, right. You have really nice legs." As soon as he says it his cheeks color a bit. I just roll my eyes; he was just a teenager after all.
"Oh my god, tell me I just did not say that out loud." He sounded mortified but I could care less. We needed to get out of here and fast.
"Jaxton! You'll get the chance to blush like a girl after we get out of here, so unless if you want to stay here, better get moving." I snapped losing my patience. We hardly had the time to deal with this shit.
"Right, so we'll have to take the front door." He said gathering all my items in the room and stuffing it in the duffel bag. Lastly he threw my phone at me which I tucked in my other back pocket.
"Why?"I asked pretty sure we'll be caught in a microsecond if we even try that.
"Look this place is like a fucking fortress. And I am not even kidding. As soon as we get out of here, the lobby will be deserted minus one creepy guy who looks like the Halloween version of a scary school janitor." He paused looking at me for reaction.
"Hurry up Sanders; I am not getting any younger here." I mutter impatiently.
"Yeah, yeah. So after this lobby is the populated area. Unlike what I expected there is no blood and gore on the walls. It's quiet clean actually. It's not that populated though, around four more rooms besides this one and two doctors. I think we can dodge them, with you looking like a total badass, you'll totally blend in." he said giving me a once over.
"Then comes the tricky part. The doctors inside won't notice it but I think once we are out you'll have to hide." He said looking at me wearily.
"Okay." I said not understanding why he was so nervous. I would have to hide nonetheless I am pretty sure of that.
"Don't look at me like I am stupid, what I meant was the doctors here would be too busy to notice you sneaking out so you wouldn't have to hide while in the clinic, but once outside you'll have to hide because each and every meathead out there has your face fucking memorized." He said sending me a dirty look.
Someone is touchy.
"Why do they have my face memorized?" I asked not really wanting to know the answer to that question.
"Lucca had them do it; he thought you might pull something like this." He said with a lop-sided smirk.
"Asshole."I muttered.
"Let's leave; I don't think we can afford anymore chit-chat." I said moving towards the door.
As soon as I opened the door I was face to face with a barren but well-lit hallway with white walls and no creepy janitor. Damn I wanted to see him.
The hallway was not long and soon we had to take a right turn to enter what Jaxton had so eloquently worded as the 'Populated Area'. I motioned for him to walk in front of me while I trailed behind with my head down and most of my hoodie covering my face.
After two lefts and a quick right, we were out of the hospital.
As soon as I walked out, I had expected to be assaulted by the burning sun and blue sky but instead what I saw was a mellow sun and an orange sky.
"What time is it?" I whispered to Jaxton.
"Around sixish. Its Wednesday if you are wondering, you were out for nearly 48 hours." he answered without turning back.
I looked around as we walked out of the clinic. All around us were black cars, loud motorbikes and huge men. The air smelled of freshly cut grass and cigarettes. The grounds were tiled and the sidewalk had a freshly trimmed and lush green coat of grass.
My hand directly reached for my gun as soon as we were away from the hospital/ clinic. I opened the cylinder of the gun to see that it was fully loaded. Grinning internally I closed it with a click.
Immediately Jaxton jerked in his steps and looked back to give me a dirty look.
"Don't kill anyone; I am really not good with dealing with blood or violence for that matter." He said with a very meek voice.
I didn't reply. I don't like to make promises I that I am not sure of.
We reached the gates without any interruptions. Not once did I actually look at the gigantic mansion that was very much visible in my peripheral vision.
At the gates I could see that there were three guards, two of them were armed and the other was not. This was going to be easy.
I grabbed Jaxton's shirt and pulled him back, handing him the gun.
"Take this and point it at the guy without the gun. Don't look scared and you'll be fine." I said in a hushed voice. He nodded looking shit scared.
Well, this is going to be fun.
I wanted to hit someone so badly because of all the things that have been happening to me, these meatheads are going to be a great outlet for all that pent up frustration.
I know that's sadistic but that's the only way I know to deal with the problems in my life. Sue me.
"Hey meatheads, wanna let me out?" I shouted walking towards them. I could hear Jaxton protesting behind me but ignored him.
"Who the fuck are you and how did you get in?" Meathead #1 asked. He was tall, huge, ripped and ugly.
"Hey I know you; you're the signorina Boss brought back. How did you get out?" Meathead #2 said. His accent was heavy as he stumbled through his sentence.
Looks wise all three of them could pass as identical triplets.
"Alfredo, call Boss. Now. He is not going to be happy about this."Meathead #3 said, looking worriedly at Meathead #1 who apparently was Alfredo. He was the one with no guns on him.
"Yeah, I don't think so pasta sauce." Jaxton said pointing a gun at Alfredo. He was shaking so much that even a blind person could see it.
"What he said." I said with a smirk.
As soon as I saw the other two reach for their guns I moved forward and kicked #2 fair and square in his crotch and moved in front of #3 with what I presume was a malicious smirk. #3 was still in shock to what I did to his friend and #2 was on the ground holding his family jewels as if his life depended on it.
I took advantage of this shock.
I knew soon #2 would be up and charging at me like a raging bull which would've been fun if not for Jaxton here who looked as if he was about to pee his pants. So I socked #3 right in his nose hearing the very satisfying sound of his nose cracking and followed by another punch to his chin.
That didn't seem to affect him much so I elbowed his chest knocking whatever air out of him making him bend forward. As he bent forward and gave him a direct blow to his temple and knocked the fucking daylights out of him.
Hell yeah!
All the while I could hear Jaxton's pathetic attempts at stalling in the background.
"Kid put the gun down; you look like you wouldn't be able to shoot me even if I helped you point the gun at me."Alfredo mocked him. Laughter evident in his deep voice.
"Oh y-yeah? At least I am n-not named after a pasta sauce!" he stuttered.
"A-at least I don't s-stutter." He said howling with laughter.
Suddenly I was behind Alfredo as I jabbed two fingers right behind his collarbone. With a small cry of pain he was out like a candle.
"That...was awesome! How did you do that!?" Jaxton murmured looking at me with awe.
"Pressure point." I replied with a smirk on my face as I looked down at the Hulk that was completely knocked out by someone half his size.
"Behind you!" Jaxton shouted.
I turned around to see #2 standing up with an enraged expression on his face.
The angry ones are the best ones. They don't think at all, they just do it. Dumb motherfuckers.
He came at me as I prepared to give him a solid roundhouse kick but unfortunately the fucker caught my foot halfway and twisted it, hard. I immediately face slammed on the ground. I could taste the metallic taste of blood in my mouth.
Spitting the blood out of my mouth, I got up as my already bruised ribs rebuked at the blow they just received.
"You got both of them down under 3 minutes? Not bad for a girl, puttana." #2 spat in disgust.
Now I am so sure he called me a bitch or a whore or something equally nasty.
You just don't call a lady vile names, mister.
"Want to see how time it takes for you to go down?" I smirked "Jaxton here will be happy to count, won't you?" I said jerking my head in his direction, never taking my eyes off #2.
"S-sure?" Jaxton replied.
I didn't get a reply from #2, he just charged like a raging bull that just saw a red flag.
I quickly side-stepped and hit him on his lower spine with my elbow. His knees buckled immediately. Just as he was about to get up I hit him right in the centre of his head with my elbow. Completely knocking him out. He crumpled on the ground like a fucking rag doll. I clutched my elbow as pain shot through it. Fuck, that's going to bruise.
"Is he dead?" Jaxton asked horror evident in his voice. I rolled my eyes.
"Nope, just knocked out." I hope...
"So how long was it?"I looked at Jaxton.
"A minute, give or take 10 seconds." He muttered robotically still looking at me with awe and horror.
I looked ahead to see the double doors still closed. They were automatic so no hope in pushing them open. I looked back at the still shaken up Jaxton who held my gun with trembling hands. I walked back to him and took the gun and tucked it in my back pocket. He flinched as soon my fingers brushed his hands.
"Chill, will you? Just taking the gun." I said rolling my eyes at him. He looked embarrassed.
"Can you climb?" I asked looking at the door and then back at him.
Suddenly Jaxton's eyes lit up with child like excitement.
"Hell yeah!" he said with a big shit eating grin on his face.
"Well then what are you waiting for? Jump over the gate and wait for me on the other side." I said pointing at the huge double gates.
"Yes, ma'am!" he exclaimed.
Within seconds he was sitting on the gate, he looked down at me gave me a mock salute and jumped down the gate. Soon a painful thud was heard.
"I am alive! I am fine!" he shouted from the other side.
I shook my head at his childishness and started climbing the gate myself. The metal vines on the fenced gate looked delicate but were sturdy enough to carry my weight. As I climbed up the gate, I could feel the adrenaline wear off and I became very much aware of the pain in my ribs, the cut on my lower lip and the sting on the side of my head.
I reached the top, one leg on either side of the gate. I looked down to see that this gate in fact was quiet high. If I jump I would land on my ass and that would hurt like a bitch. I swung my other leg over the gate so I was facing Jaxton.
"Hey Jaxton, how strong do you think you are?" I yelled.
He looked up at me with shock and apprehension.
"Average, why?" he answered after a second.
"Good, catch me." I said and jumped.
"HOLY SHIT!" I heard him shout as I landed in his outstretched arms.
We fell on the ground as I rolled onto the side I heard him groaning.
"Have you lost your fucking mind, woman?!" he whisper-yelled rolling onto the other side facing away from me.
I got up immediately dusting myself. On the other side of the dirt road, a little far away from the mansion was my baby.
"Get up now. We are on the clock, moan all you want once we are in the car."I said walking towards the car.
"Fuck you."I heard him mutter behind me as he got up and followed.
The car was unlocked and I soon got into the driver's seat.
Jaxton was still moaning about me being stupid, I just ignored him.
"Do you know where we are going?" I asked him as I turned the keys that were already in the ignition.
"Yeah, Clark told me to tell you about going to your happy place. He said you'd know." He said looking at me with confusion and a bit irritation.
Of course I knew. The summer house was my escape or as Clark liked to call it, my happy place; I usually went there with Caley when I just wanted to get a break from life.
Clark made a smart choice. Lucca wouldn't know about it because no one other than Clark, Caley and I knew about it. Now Jaxton too.
"Okay." I said typing in the address in my GPS. Very good, it'll take about a little over an hour. Perfect.
"How did you learn to fight like that?" Jaxton spoke after almost 20 minutes of complete silence.
We were, at the moment stuck in traffic, so might as well humor him.
"Some of it my father taught me." I said remembering the time dad used to take me to our basement gym to kick box back home.
"Your father?" his surprise and shock brought a small smile to my face.
Yes my father taught me to fight. He always believed that everybody should be able to stand up for themselves.
Every day after work when he came home he used to take me to the gym and taught me how to fight. We had been doing this since I was 10 years old.
That's how we bonded, me and my dad.
Plus, my dad was very good at it. Fighting, I mean. And one day I came to know why.
That day I had beaten my dad for the first time. He was very surprised that I beat him and he told me not many could do it. He fought in the underground rings when he was a teenager but left it after he married mum. He was their unbeatable champion. Anyone hardly bet against him.
"Yes, my father." I said rolling my eyes.
"Wow. Your father taught you to fight brutal. I bet those meatheads are still knocked out." The surprise in his tone didn't wane.
"But shouldn't you be against all this violence, you know being a lawyer and all?" he asked.
"You know my dad always taught me there's nothing wrong with fighting as long as we finish it and it's against the person who is either your equal or someone stronger than you." I said speeding up a bit more than what the speed limit said.
It was a freeway, don't judge me.
"But it wasn't only my father though; Danny too taught me some moves. He taught me channel my anger mostly and use it when I am fighting. He taught me to think." I said remembering the first two years after my parents' death. I was walking personification of anger, still am actually.
"Seriously?" I just nodded.
"Yup." I said nodding my head.
We didn't speak a word until we reached the summer house. The only stop we made before we reached our destination was at a Starbucks.
I got myself a Venti Caramel Macchiato with three extra shots of espresso; I really didn't want to sleep tonight. Jaxton got himself an Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha.
I used to have that when I was fifteen.
***
We reached the house a bit later than we anticipated due to the small diversion we took, but we reached there nonetheless. I released a breath I didn't even know I was holding. My mobile hadn't buzzed once in the past hour and half and that put me on edge. Surely by now they know that I had escaped.
I parked the car in the already opened garage and went in the house through the door that connected the garage to the kitchen. As soon as I entered the kitchen I saw Clark helping himself to a sandwich.
"Oh, you're finally here." He said turning to face us. "Oh my god! What happened to your face!? It's...it's bleeding!" his eyes were wide as saucers as he stared at me in horror.
"Chill, will you? I am fine. I don't even feel it." I muttered walking around the island and grabbing the double-decker Nutella sandwich he had made for himself.
"Help yourself." I said looking at Jaxton who was already searching the cabinets for food.
A few minutes later just as I finished my sandwich Clark came in with a first aid. I glared at him.
"I know, but just at least let me clean the wound. Trust me, you don't want an infection." He said setting the box on the Kitchen Island and taking out the cotton and alcohol.
I sighed and sat back on the high stool waiting to be smothered. Seeing my resignation he quickly got to work.
As he was applying the alcohol swap on my temple, soft music was heard from the living room.
As you go through life you see,
There is so much that we don't understand.
And the only thing we know,
Is things don't always go...the way we planned.
"What was that?" Jaxton asked suddenly very alert.
"That would be Caley." Clark said finishing up with the dressing and throwing away the dirty cotton balls.
"She's here?" Jaxton's surprise was quite obvious.
"Well you don't think I would leave her behind, did you?" I glared at him. Of course I won't leave a eleven year old in a mafia house alone while I escaped.
"How did you manage to get her out?" Jaxton asked looking at me.
"That would be my awesomeness actually."Clark said before I could say anything. So I just shrugged and let Clark explain everything.
The plan was that after Clark left me with Sebastian he would get out of the estate on the pretext that he was going to Starbucks for a break, he would make sure that he would say this in front of Caley. To Caley Starbucks only meant one thing- chocolate croissants.
So after taking Caley out for a Starbucks trip he would immediately drop her here and go set up for my escape.
My escape was the tricky part. Lucca barely left me alone, the entire time I was on that bed. He was like my customized guard dog. So we had to get him out of the room. Hence the power cut.
The power cut was accompanied by the unlocking of the all the automatic doors on the estate, which were pretty much all of them. That's where Jaxton came in.
Jaxton hacked into the mainframe and unlocked all the doors. Something told me that Lucca had his own team of hackers and computer geeks so Jaxton took the precautions of hiding his tracks pretty fucking fantastic making him almost invisible.
That trick worked pretty well because as soon as the power was cut and the doors were unlocked, Lucca was called in, which I assume was because his team was being blocked from entering the mainframe.
After Lucca left Clark was supposed to come in to get me.
This plan was pretty much solid except for the fact that there were so many men on his estate, escaping would be impossible without getting caught fifty times, so for that Clark suggested we call in one of my many scapegoats.
Now before you get the wrong idea, the scapegoat, owed me a favor in the past and was ready to take this opportunity to repay me.
Andrew's case was brought to me about 2 years ago, he was a con man. Deception was a part of his daily life so I was told to be aware of him. But he felt like a genuinely good person, so when I found out that he was actually guilty of all the thefts and forgeries he was accused of, I confronted him.
He wanted to change though and convinced me to help him get out of the case. Like I said, deception and manipulation was a part of his daily life. So before his trial began, I made the plaintiffs agree on a pretty reasonable settlement.
So, now I called in the favor. He was more than happy to oblige, said he needed some action in his boring life. Who was I to stop him?
So the plan was that Andrew would be seen escaping the estate and obviously that would be reported to Lucca. And nobody, I mean nobody escaped the Giovanni Estate without Lucca's permission.
The thing that scared Clark most was the fact that Lucca might kill Andrew, but I know that wasn't happening. Lucca liked to play with his prey, torture them, tame them, interrogate them, and only then kill them.
So yes, I wasn't worried about Andrew. Now, as men were to be sent out to catch the escapee, the security on the front gates would reduce and then I would make my escape. The rest is history.
"Fuck." Jaxton muttered wide-eyed staring between me and Clark.
"You both could do some serious damage to someone, if you put your mind to it." He said taking a bite of his sandwich.
I took out my phone from the back pocket only to see it was dead. No wonder why I didn't get any calls. I quickly got up and connected it to the charger plugged in the kitchen.
"So, now what do we do?" Clark asked looking at me.
"I don't know about you both, but I have a meeting day after tomorrow so I am going to be busy reading the files that I should have been reading and I am going to catch up on my work." I said looking at them.
"Like now?" Clark asked sounding a bit disgruntled maybe because he'll have to be there taking notes.
"No, tomorrow morning, 8 am. Just now I am hitting the gym." I said walking out of the kitchen.
I walked into the living room to see Caley seeing Lion King. I didn't want her to see me all bloodied and bruised so I sneaked pass her to the door that leads to the basement.
The entire basement was a gym arena with a treadmill, hand machines, leg machines , cross trainers and a kick-box bag right in the middle.
After twenty minutes of running and stretching I finally walked to the hanging sandbag.
And then I let it all out.
Criminals waltzing into my life.
Left punch. Right punch. Repeat.
Getting shot.
Two right kicks. One left kick. Multiple punches.
Waking up from almost two day coma only to find that I had been kidnapped by the said criminal.
Two right knee. Right punch.
Being the target of Russian mafia.
Left elbow. Knee. Multiple kicks.
Corrupt companies asking for legal help.
Multiple kicks. Right uppercut.
The punching bag took the most vicious of my hits as I poured my anger. Some would think that I am a deranged psycho for overreacting to the shit happening in my life, but this is the only effective way I know to deal with the said shit. So, get over it.
So after about an hour of punching the shit out of the punching bag, I lied down on the matted floor covered in sweat, trying to get my breathing under control.
As soon as I could breathe normally I got up and walked to my room which happened to be on the first floor of the two-storey villa. My legs were sore and my muscles were aching by the time I reached my room. The intense aggression outlet combined with stairs is never a good choice.
Chucking my headphones and IPod on the couch beside the bed and untying my hair, I walked into the bathroom to have a warm shower. Removing the bandages that Clark had tended me with, I got into the steaming shower. The warm water washing all the sweat and tension from my body, relaxing my aching muscles and making me realize just how tired I was.
Quickly getting out of the shower, I change into my black shorts and matching singlet. As soon as I climbed into the comfortable bed and covered myself with the blanket, I was out like a light.
***
The next morning I was woken up by a high pitched screech of an over excited eleven year old. Caley climbed on the bed and hugged my waist as tight as she could. She smelled of roses and mint.
"What time is it?" I mumbled; still not ready to open my eyes, my limbs and torso extremely sore.
"Its 7:15! Wake up!" Caley shouted sounding way more excited than she should be.
So it turned out that Caley in fact had school and needed breakfast.
And the two idiots were unable to make anything breakfast worthy, her words not mine. After making Caley pancakes Clark volunteered to drop Caley off to school and Jaxton decided to tag along giving me the house to myself for at least 45 minutes.
So after freshening up, changing into skinny jeans and a loose t shirt I decided to go down and make myself some breakfast after which I was going to dive into those case files.
Mr. Wells is our client, but he also wrongfully terminated his employee. He was not the most honest man you'll ever meet but so are not the rest of us. The employee on the other hand is just plain stupid. Instead of asking for legal help and seeing himself to a prosecutor, he decided to choose vandalism.
With these thoughts in my mind I decided to turn on my mobile and see exactly how many missed calls had gotten. After having a very cheesy omelet and a strong coffee I turned on my phone to see several messages and voice mails from Lia, Christopher, Danny and an unknown number which I am assuming is Lucca.
Not wanting to deal with those messages I got right into my work.
Romanov, the ex-employee was accused of vandalism and theft. Vandalism, I am sure he has committed because it is on tape and I had seen that tape myself. But theft on the other hand is a different story. Romanov was hot headed but he was extremely moral, even more so than anyone in his position should be. He was a self made person with a minimal criminal record.
The only family he had was his little brother. And as heartless as it would make me, I was going to use him to close Romanov. We would agree on a settlement and not take the case to trial. If the case went to trial, it would be impossible to keep it quiet.
After sometime and I stood up to refill the empty coffee cup. As I was refilling my cup I heard the door behind me open. Finally Clark was back, he could start drafting those settlement deals for me.
"You know what women like you are called in French, tesoro?" I heard the low voice of the person who wasn't supposed to find me here.
I turned around instantly to see Lucca leaning against the door that connected the kitchen to the garage.
He was wearing the same turtleneck he had been wearing yesterday and his hair was a bit messier than what I remember.
"What the fuck are you doing here?!" I asked my hand already on the gun in my back pocket.
"Femme fatale. Disastrous woman, a woman who can't stay away from disasters." he said walking closer completely ignoring the question I just asked.
I pulled out the gun and pointed it at him.
"How the fuck did you find this place?!" I hissed.
No one knew about this place expect Clark and myself. Jaxton also didn't know where it was until we reached here.
"Violet put the fucking gun down and come back with us."Danny said coming in the same door Lucca and come in. Both of their huge frames hardly fitting in the door.
"Seriously, how did you know where to fucking find me?!" I almost screech losing my patience.
"What is happening I heard some-" I turn around to see Clark and Jaxton come in through the front door.
As soon as I turned around the gun was knocked out of my hands and into Lucca's. Well, shit.
"Oh, shit." Clark said nervously glancing between me and the two assholes standing in front of me who knew exactly how to invade someone's privacy.
"Great timing, dumbasses." I muttered glaring at Clark who's somewhat muscular build hid Jaxton's lanky build.
"I am going to ask this or the last time...how did you find me?" I said my voice low with warning as I turned to face asshole #1 and asshole #2.
"That doesn't matter; the point of this visit was to drag your ass back with us, if necessary. So save us all the pain and come with us tesoro." He said putting my, or rather his gun in his pocket.
"No" my answer was monosyllabic, pretty clear and simple but I guess Lucca was only gifted in the matter of beauty and not brains.
"Do you think you have fucking choice?" he growled anger evident in his voice. He was frustrated because of me constantly denying him. Good.
I started to back out. As he saw me moving backwards, amusement and something darker shone in his eyes.
"You think you can run away from me tesoro, yes?"he asked, his lips curving into a malicious grin.
Just a few more steps.
My hand shot behind my back and I felt for the handle of the first drawer. Not even five seconds later I had my gun pointing at him, safety taken off.
"I am not a coward, I don't run."I smirked only to see him matching my expressions.
"Put the gun down tesoro. You'll get hurt. That's not something you play with." He said amusement clear in his eyes.
He was goading me, trying to get me angry so that everything rational flies out of my head. But he didn't know something, I invented that trick.
"Get out of my house and I will." I said not moving an inch.
"Ladies first." He said jerking his head towards the door.
"Then why don't I see you walking?" I asked with a smirk. Danny and Clark tried to cover their laughter by coughing, Jaxton didn't bother.
Lucca's smile turned from amused to wicked. He put his gun down on the island counter and took a step towards me. I warned him with a look but he ignored it.
"I have this place surrounded, tesoro. You tried to escape and my men will catch you. You are a lawyer right? I have deal for you, let's settle. A compromise, if you will." He said looking me in the eye.
I thought for a second, considering his offer. If I tried to escape, Clark and Jaxton would be of no use at all. I had a target on my back and I needed protection which Lucca could give me. But on the other hand, it was entirely possible that he will keep me locked up which I can't have, at all.
But there's a reason I am the best closer New York has ever seen.
"You got yourself a deal Lucca Santos. Let's settle." I said finally putting my gun down and looking at his satisfied expression which matched my own.
As truly said by one of the greatest lawyers of all time, don't play the case, play the man. And I am going play Lucca Santos like Beethoven played his piano.
A/N:
