Chapter 3

Veles walks into the room right after Kestrel's question. Everyone looks at him, waiting for whatever he demands. His hands were crossed, and he was glaring at me.
"Ailith, let's go talk." I gulp and follow him to his office.
I watch him sit at his chair, waiting to be yelled at.
"Well, amazing performance. I do have a question though." I nodded, asking for him to keep going.
"Did you know that you are dark fae?"
"No, I never knew of this power until today. Why?"
He stared at me intently, hiding something important. I fully intend to get this out of him in the next few minutes.
"As you know, I am technically not supposed to be keeping elves and or fae in my barracks, and you come out to be dark fae. Everyone wants you dead, Ailith." His face in some way falls.
I nod, "Do you plan to turn me in?"
He shakes his head, "I want you to leave and take Meira with you. Leave Faylen."
"Really? Will you help me leave the city?" I ask him, hiding the excitement.
"You have a good amount of money and survival essentials to take. Take your weapons and what you need from your room. Leave for Starbrog. There, you can control that dangerous magic of yours." I nod, hiding the smile about to show.
I can leave this hellhole.
"Everything you will need from me should be in your room. I will send Meira down there as well." He sighed, motioning for me to leave.
I turned towards the door, stopping before exiting his office, "Thank you, Veles."
With that, I rushed towards my room. The sun was setting, and I didn't have much time. Everyone would be asleep during the dark, and that was the prime time to escape death. Laid out for me was an outfit. I slid on the black pants, stretchy yet warm. Next was the blue shirt. I threw around the long coat; it held pockets for knives and other gadgets. The belt fit on my short swords that I was told to take. I quickly braided my hair before fitting the hooded cloak around my body.
"Mommy!" I turned and saw Meira standing in dark clothing as well. She had a little knife in her belt, and I smiled. She will be learning how to use it soon. Her little hood covered her hair which was also braided.
I grabbed my bag and took her hand. We ran towards the exit, and I saw Kestrel standing by the door.
"You're leaving. Why?" His arms were crossed.
I sighed, "Kestrel, I'm a dark fae. Everyone wants me dead. Veles told me to leave for Starbrog. I will miss you, friend."
He wrapped his huge arms around me, and I couldn't help but feel some sort of sympathy. He was stuck in this place alone. I stepped away and held out Meira for him to say goodbye. Kestrel kissed her forehead, and I smiled.
"Goodbye, Ailith."

I quietly ran towards the stable. A black horse was nudging at the door, staring at me. She wanted to get out, and so did I. My footsteps were silent walking along half the walls. I took the keys hanging on the wall, and I unlocked the only restraint from this horse getting out. The black mare walked out as I opened the door. I lead her towards the saddles and put one on quickly. Once we were in the street, I hopped onto her back and rode out of Selani.
My hood was up, and Meira was tightly sleeping against me. I smiled warmly. The horse huffed to me, and I looked up, seeing the gate. My heels dug into her, encouraging the increase of speed. We pass through the gates, and I notice the tall green trees surrounding the path.
Wow. So this is what Faylen is like.

After a couple of hours, I start to see a smaller city, and I decide to stop here for a rest. The inn was right by the stable which was perfect for my horse. I didn't even know her name. Slowly, I dismount my horse and lead it to an empty stall in the stable. I walked into the inn and paid for one room. This will be home for a night.
The room had a window and was on the second floor. The bed was big enough for Meira to sleep with me; I laid her on the bed before tucking myself in for the night. The bed was luxurious compared to the one I had. I fell into a deep slumber as soon as my head hit the pillow.

"Mommy?" I felt Meira tapping me on the shoulder.
My eyes opened, "What, Meira?"
"I'm hungry."
"Alright, let's get up and get some food. How does that sound?" She nods in response.
We get dressed and walk downstairs. The dining area looked very homey. People flooded the area, drinking and eating happily. Conversations could be heard from every side of the room. I led Meira to an empty table in the back; I sat with a view of everyone. A waitress immediately came over.
"Good morning! What can I get u, two girls?"
She's certainly perky, "Could I get some porridge and some fruit?" After the waitress nodded, I thanked her and she left. My eyes landed on Meira who was happily smiling at me. Her hair was pulled back and her fae ears were on display. Both of us had long pointy ears, and we received a couple of stares because of it.
"Meira?" my daughter immediately looked up at me, "we will be leaving once we eat breakfast. How does that sound?"
She nods in agreement.
Perfect.

Meira and I walk out to our horse, and I quickly set her on the saddle. Standing out here gave me an unsettling feeling.
I need to leave. Now!
I hop onto the horse, and we ride out of the town. Something doesn't feel right though. Once I'm away from whoever or whatever it was, I'll be fine. The towering trees surround us, and my daughter and I once again travel into the wilderness.
It wasn't long before Meira's eyes closed, and her snores became audible as I rode along the path. I let my mind wander, thinking about the road ahead of Meira and I. Will she also have the power I just discovered about myself? Why am I getting sent to Starbrog? Will anyone help me tame the powers I just discovered? Is there more than just the white fire? Why were there Royals from Rivanerre at my last fight?
After leaving last night, Meira and I have been left to our own devices and thoughts. I enjoy the peaceful silence while riding and having more time with my daughter. However, I miss some of the people from the school like Kestrel; they watched me grow up, become a mother, rise through the ranks as a fighter, and helped me through any trouble I had. They were all I remember after showing up at Veles' door at nine years old. That was so long ago.

***
By the time the sun started to set, Meira and I reached another little town right before crossing the border. Tomorrow, we would be riding through Rivanerre. I've heard that it's a beautiful place to be. The capital, Echos was surrounded by floating mountains, towering trees, and flourishing creeks. It'll be a dream to travel through the land.
Meira and I get settled in our room, pull out the map and plan for the next day. It's mostly me stating my ideas out and formulating a plan by myself. She's just happy to be laying in a bed. I didn't mind. It's not like she had a lot of experience with travel anyways. It wasn't long before Meira was lightly snoring in her bed. I finished my plan for tomorrow and then also joined her in bed for some sleep. We will be traveling early in the morning, especially since I'm currently wanted dead.
