Chapter 1: Firekit
"Wait Ashkit, Harekit!" Firekit called after his littermates. The two she cat's were tumbling around in the dark nursery in a furry ball of dusty grey, and light ginger. The fire colored tom went chasing after the heap, trying to pull them away from each other. "Stop fighting already!" He hissed, grabbing the grey scruff of Ashkit. Firekit pulled his sisters away from each other and frowned at them.
"Don't give us that look!" Harekit huffed and started grooming the ground out her fur. "You aren't Frosttail, you can't boss us around!"
"You were tearing up the entire nursery! And if Frosttail was her, she would be disappointed!" Ginger fur rose on Firekit's neck, his small claws sliding out in annoyance.
"You've go that right." A disappointed voice made all three kittens jump out of their fur and turn around. Standing at the entrance of the den was a pretty pale grey she cat marked with white paws and a white tail. "Are you two fighting again?" Frosttail frowned at her daughters.
"Sorry Frosttail." The two shes said in unison and looked at their paws.
"Honestly, when I had kits I thought Firekit was going to be the troublesome one." She sighed and walked over to her nest to lay down. "Petalheart lied to me when she said she cats were easier."
"We are easier!" The hissed together and stood up straight.
"And I'm the leader of ThunderClan." Firekit rolled his eyes and walked over to their mother, where he climbed over her to lay on her stomach. He watched as Ashkit and Harekit stuck their tongues out at him, and copied their actions.
"Enough you three. You guys are the oldest kits in the nursery-"
"We're the only kits in the nursery." Firekit butted in and got a look.
"None the less," Frosttail looked back at the sisters. "You two need to stop fighting all of the time!"
"But. We're. Bored!" They groaned and puffed out their cheeks. The action made Firekit roll his forest green eyes.
He stood up and walked to the entrance of the den, removing himself from the conversation. He looked out at clan life and dipped his head at a group of passing warriors, one of which was his father. "Good work today." He said to them.
"Thank you FireKit." Foxfur purred and nudged his kit affectionately. "Are the she's fighting again?" He guessed and sat next to Firekit.
"How can you tell?" Ginger fur puffed out from Firekit's pelt in a purr.
"I just can." The equally ginger tom cat winked and stood up. "Say, how would you like to tour the camp?"
"C-Can I really?!" Firekit asked, his eyes widened with excitement.
"Come on then." Foxfur lead Firekit away from the nursery and further into camp.
Foxfur showed Firekit the entire camp from the leaders den, to even a few hidden areas in the camp. When the sun was at it's highest peak, Firekit started to feel tired but still pushed himself to trudge on after his kit-like father.
"Are you okay there Firekit?" Foxfur's happiness filled voice drew the tired tom's attention to him.
Though about to fall over, Firekit didn't want to look weak in front of his clan, much less his father. "I'm doing just fine!" He puffed out his white chest best he could. "I'm going to a warrior, so this is nothing! I can handle it!"
"That's what I like to hear!" Foxfur purred obliviously and pointed to the fresh kill pile that was on the other side of the camp. "Race ya there~"
"Alright!" He felt his body fill with a little bit of energy and readied himself to run.
Right when the two of them were about to start, a cough made them halt, and look up. In front of them stood a large spotted tabby with pretty green eyes. "Foxfur are you a mouse brain?" She hissed at the grown tom, and Firekit stayed quiet.
"Wh-What?" The warrior stood up completely and met her eyes.
"Firekit is only 2 moons old Foxfur, he can't run around like an older kit. Look how tired he is." Firekit watched her white tipped tail poke his nose.
"He said he was fine though. Cut me some slack Spottedfire." Foxfur laid his ears on his skull.
"I'm fine! I can race!" Firekit insisted and flexed his small muscles in order to make a point, but all he got was a glance from the pretty she cat. "I can do it Spottedfire!" He insisted and crouched down into a run. "Watch me!" It hurt knowing that some cat in his clan didn't think he could do something as simple as running.
He dashed off towards the fresh kill. About half way there he felt his muscles give out in his front left leg and tripped. He flipped rolled and slid across the ground, his fire colored fur getting covered in dust.
Firekit lifted his head and noticed all the eyes in camp stare at him, some with humour, some with gilt, and some with pity. His face flare with embarrassment, and his eyes burned from holding back tears. 'I'm gonna be a warrior. I can't cry because of this...' he sniffled and stood up shakily. His legs gave way again and he fell back down. This time he could hear murmurs.
"Poor scrap."
"Hahaha, maybe he should've stayed with Frosttail."
"Too funny."
"Don't laugh at him!"
"What did I tell you Foxfur?!" Spottedfire glared at the tom and approached the kit, reaching for his scruff.
"Don't touch me." Firekit hissed and started to stand up. "I can do it! I'm a kit of WindClan do I can do it!" His dusty paws started to shakily move back to the nursery. He left the she cat speechless, and he would admit rudely, but he didn't care since he felt humiliated.
"What happened to you?!" Frosttail gasped when Firekit staggered into the den. Firekit could feel the worried eyes of his sibling also fall on him, and he allowed his mother to pick him up, and lid simply in her jaws while she started grooming his fur. "Are you okay?" She fretted over him, but got no response when he dozed off, exhaustion hitting him like a monster.
