Prologue

The cream she-cat glanced upon her clan's clearing, the breeze racing through her pelt that Newleaf brought upon the new founded clan. Juniperstar's emerald green eyes scanned the clan's cats as they scrambled around like little mice. She couldn't remember a time where she'd been this happy with previous clan cats and former rogues, let alone with her new clan members. The emerald green grass swayed in the breeze as the creamy she-cat jumped down from Moonrock. Everything sat still for a moment, then Juniperstar whipped her head towards a cat and whispered,

"Ah, finally you showed up, Clovers- you're not Cloverstar."

There stood a pale gray, copper-eyed tom. His eyes shifted to the soft, green grass as he spoke, "No, I am not. I am her deputy, however. I've came to tell you about a gathering tonight. Even though you aren't an official clan, you are welcome to attend." He mewed, Juniperstar's eyes narrowed at the tom. She despised anyone who had called her clan "unofficial", but she had her clan called that many times, why still get angry about it? The she-cat leader sighed, replying with a single "Okay, thank you, Featherstep. We'll attend.." She glanced away from him for a quick moment. Her eyes scanned the grass as he nodded slightly, her ears flattening. "Alright, now, if you could tell Thunderclan, that'd be nice of you. You see, I'm extremely exhausted from travelling from Windclan to here, so you'd be doing a huge favor for me." He glanced up at the pastel blue sky, lighting up his copper eyes. "I will tell Thunderclan. I suppose." Featherstep glanced back at the leader, arching his back and lifting his head as he spoke, "I appreciate it, Junipertongue, I really do." Juniperstar perked up at the sound of her warrior name, her ears flattening once more. "My name's Juniperstar now, Featherstep." The she-cat spat, Featherstep giving her a doubtful, yet questioning, look. Of course, Featherstep didn't think of Juniperclan as an official clan, just like many other clan cats, and thought that Junipertongue renaming herself to Juniperstar would make her powerful, just like the other clan leaders. He sighed before trotting out of their camp, his tail hanging low as if he just got caught of doing something wrong. Juniperstar swiftly followed him, padding into Thunderclan's territory. The smell of mouse, squirrels and Starclan knows wafting into her face. Juniperstar stood there for a moment, watching Featherstep power his way through his tiredness. She shook her head, thinking he was just faking being exhausted so that he could have Juniperstar warn the other clans instead of doing it himself.

"Good evening, everyone. I'm glad you all could attend this gathering." Thornstar mewed over all of the clans. Juniperstar's eyes shifted from the clan members to the moon rising, watching as the time of the gathering began. "Who'd like to go first?" The blue-grey tom glanced at the clan leaders, his amber eyes landing on a cream she-cat who founded the newest clan. His eyes narrowed as he purred the leader's name, "Juniperstar?" The cream leader glanced at the Riverclan leader, apologizing "Ah, yes, sincerely sorry, I had something on my mind." Thornstar nodded slightly, signaling for her to begin, "Well, prey has been running well in Juniperclan. And I'm sure it is in Thunderclan as well." Narrowstar nodded at Juniperstar's words, confirming that it was running well. "Wait, may I announce something, Juniperstar?" Halfheart stood, Juniperstar nodding. The raven-colored she-cat stood and trotted in front of the clan leaders, facing the clan cats as she spoke. "I have received a prophecy. The only reason why I haven't told my clan yet, is because of the twolegs injuring our members." The she-cat mewed, several cats, including some clan leaders, perking up immediately. "Prophecy? What prophecy?" Cloverstar meowed, sounding like as if it were an emergency. Juniperstar's eyes scanned the ground, deeply confused. She had no idea what prophecy Halfheart was talking about. Why would Starclan give them a prophecy and not another clan? "Flowerpetal, a deceased Windclan queen, has given me a prophecy. A prophecy that will help grow Juniperclan. In her exact words, she spoke; "In desperate times of need, two kittypets will help your clan. Although one is only apprentice age, while the other is warrior age, they shall be useful in the far future." It is possible that Flowerpetal is a Dark Forest cat trying to disguise themselves as a Starclan member and giving me a fake prophecy, but I'd say that she's giving me a real one." Halfheart announced, Cloverstar immediately standing and jumping over to Halfheart. She quickly glanced around, before whispering something to Halfheart. Unfortunately, for Cloverstar, Juniperstar overheard. Her ears perked as she heard the whisper, "Flowerpetal? My sister?"

"How was the gathering, Juniperstar?" Morningwind asked as Juniperstar and Morningwind's mate, Duststream, entered the nursery. "It... It was... Alright. I suppose, just a bit different from the other gatherings I've been to." She mewed, Duststream nodded. Morningwind's dark brown tail flicking as she replied, "Oh? How was it different?" The queen asked, Juniperstar's eyes scanning the ground. Should she tell the queen about the prophecy? She let her thoughts race across her mind, letting Duststream get impatient and clearing his throat. His flicking tail hit Juniperstar's back right leg, knocking her out of her thoughts. "Ah, well, you see..." The she-cat began, Duststream rolling his eyes and finishing the leader's sentence, "Halfheart shared a prophecy. A prophecy with all the clans, instead of just Juniperstar." Juniperstar whipped her head towards the poor excuse of a medicine cat's den, to which she saw Halfheart slowly sorting herbs. "I mean... The reason she gave was-" Juniperclan's leader got cut off by an impatient warrior, "Was a leaf-brained one. Why didn't she just tell Juniperstar when she was letting injured warriors rest in that poor excuse of a medicine den?" Duststream spat out of somewhat anger and confusion. "Now, Duststream, let's not get angry with Halfheart. At least she shared the prophecy." The she-cat sighed, Duststream rolling his eyes.

"Juniperstar! Juniperstar!" Leafstorm raced in, his ears flattened and tail hanging low. Juniperstar knew something was wrong, from the urgent yelling to the scared expression on his face. "A Thunderclan warrior slaughtered Deerleap!" The tom explained, Juniperstar and Duststream immediately perking up. "What?! Bring me to his corpse!" She ordered, Leafstorm racing back to Deerleap. "Juniperstar, before you go, be careful. I heard that Thunderclan is quite territorial..." Morningwind sighed, glancing at her mate. Juniperstar nodded, chasing after her deputy.

"Oh dear Starclan!" The leader mewed, sorrow filling her voice. There, she saw, the golden dappled tom's corpse being hidden by a Thunderclan warrior with a white-and-orange coat. "That... That's the warrior that slaughtered Deerleap!" Leafstorm hissed, grabbing the attention of the warrior. Her ears flattened as she ran off, leaving Deerleap to rot and decay there on the soft emerald green grass. The shiny golden coat shined bright in the dawn-light as Juniperstar and Leafstorm sat there to mourn the loss of an excellent warrior.
