Chapter 1
Ice's P.O.V.
I skidded to a halt behind a tree. I could hear my sister Night counting, "Twelve, Thirteen," My sister Echo almost ran into me before I hissed, "Watch out, Echo! This is my hiding spot!"
"Sorry!" she mewed. Her blind blue eyes stared into mine, and her snow-white fur, which she had been named for, glowed in the bright light of the moon. She clumsily ran off into a bush and burrowed deep into it. She pricked her ears, listening for our other two sisters, Night and Snow. I peeked around the trunk of the tree and saw my sister looking by our den. Night had black fur with tiny gray spots and, like Echo, Snow and I, blue eyes, however, if you looked at her beside us, you wouldn't tell she was our sister except for the blue eyes. Night was wonderful at that game, because her pelt blended in so much better than my sisters' and my own. She turned around, and I ducked behind my tree once more. Echo had heard Night's quick shuffle of paws, and she burrowed deeper into her bush. For Echo, waiting until she could slowly make her way to base was the only way to play this game. Snow and I usually had to bring Night away from her so she could. Mom encouraged us to help each other so that if there was ever a time we needed to hide for real, then we could all help each other and hide and be okay.
Night was right outside the bush where Echo was hidden, and I knew I had to help out my sister. Pretending to be sneaking away, I stepped on a twig, which snapped with a loud crack. Night snapped her head around to look at me, and I smiled meekly. Then I took off running. Night was hard on my paws, and out of the corner, I saw Echo starting to sneak out from under the bush. My lungs burned like fire, and my paws flew over the ground, speeding me along as my sister chased me. I veered left, away from Echo, and leapt over a fallen log. Night, being smaller than me, had to scramble over it, which cost her a valuable couple of seconds. I raced for the base, and reached it just a fraction of a second before Echo, who was followed a few seconds later by Snow. Snow had a white pelt with a gray tail tip and gray mittens and blue eyes.
I turned around and smiled at Night, who was just arriving, "Guys, how do you keep beating me? Especially Echo, she can't even see the base!"
"Night!" My mother limped over, "Don't be mean to your sister. It's not her fault she's blind. You should help her instead of making fun of her."
"I wasn't making fun," Night protested, but our mother interrupted, "say you're sorry," she commanded, and when Night didn't say anything, Fern growled, "Now, Night."
"I'm sorry Echo," she hung her head, "I didn't mean to make fun of you."
"It's okay Night!" Echo exclaimed, "I know you didn't mean to. Besides, I would probably make fun of me, too, if I wasn't me. Did that make any sense?"
"No," Snow laughed.
"A little bit," Night smiled, then turned to Fern, our mother, "Can we eat now?"
"Honey, it's time for bed," she answered, "if you wanted food, you should've said so before your game."
"Okay, Mom," Night answered glumly.
"I bet I can beat you guys to the den!" I said and took off.
"Hey no fair!" Snow exclaimed, "you got a head start!"
"Wait up!" Night ran after me, hard on my paws.
"I'm coming!" Echo started after Night and Snow.
"Be careful!" Mom called out to us, following close behind Echo.

"Kits," my mom started, "I have to tell you something."
"What is it, Mom?" Echo asked.
"We're going to go somewhere tomorrow," she explained, "And we aren't going to come back here."
"Well why not?" Night asked, "There's nothing wrong here. There's enough prey, isn't there?"
"Of course there is, honey," she replied, "but you know I'm hurt. I told you that." She was right, we knew what she was talking about. About a moon ago, she had fallen out of a tree and hurt her leg badly.
"But you're okay," I asked, "Aren't you?"
"Of course," she answered, "I'm perfectly fine. However, I'm not getting better, and I don't know how to fix it."
"Why isn't it getting better?" Snow asked, "Is there something wrong?"
"I don't know," Fern answered, "That's why we're leaving. There's a group of cats about a day's travel away, and they have a cat who can take care of me. They will also take care of you while I'm getting better."
"How do you know they'll take care of us?" I asked, "What if they don't like us?"
"No cat can resist you four," my mother laughed, "Besides, these cats are very nice, and they take in cats all the time. Their leader, Firestar, likes to take in outsiders because he was one once, too, and he knows that even though we weren't born there, we can be more loyal to them than any cat."
"Firestar sounds like a very nice cat," Echo commented.
"He is," mom replied, "and they say he is the best leader by the lake. He's loyal, kind, gentle, but also fierce. He is a wonderful leader."
"How do you know?" Snow asked, "Have you met him?"
"I haven't," she explained, "but my mother met one of his warriors once. She had ran away because she believed she shouldn't be a warrior anymore because of something that was going on, I don't know all the details, but she told my mother all about Firestar and the Clans. I don't know what happened to her after that, my mother met her before I was born, but I do believe she probably went back to her Clan."
"What was her name?" I asked. Would we get to meet this cat?
"I think her name was Hollyleaf," my mother answered.
"That's a weird name," Night said.
"The Clan cats have names like that," my mother explained, "When they're a kit, their name is something and then kit, like you will be Icekit, Snowkit, Nightkit, and Echokit. Then, when they are apprentices, their name ends in paw, like Icepaw, Snowpaw, Nightpaw, and Echopaw. Then, you become a warrior, and the leader chooses the ending of your name, like Hollyleaf. And if you are lucky enough to be made a leader, your name ends in star, like Firestar."
"That's weird," Snow yawned.
"To them, your name is probably weird, too," Mom answered, then she laid down, "Alright, kits, it's time for bed. You have a big day tomorrow."
We all snuggled down, and we fell asleep.
A/N: since cats are things I can draw, I'm gonna draw a lot of the pictures for this story. Comment vote and follow!!!
