Chapter Five

"What the–!" Lilyflight sputtered angrily, getting a blast of dust in her face. "How the does a dust storm appear in a forest?!"

Her companion was suffering the same fate. Both cats tried to stay up, with the dust wiping past them. The roar of the storm seemed to be like Wickedstar and her wicked, wicked, rage.

"There! A den!" Pineheart shouted as loud as he could.

"That looks like a fox's den!" She yelled back, "Stop telling me ways to die!"

"Why would I want you dead?" Pineheart shrieked, "come on, we have to go over there!"

"I'd rather die!" Lilyflight roared. "Okay, we're dead either way, so getting slaughtered by a fox viciously or dying beneath the endless heap of dust?"

"Do you have any common sense?!"

Lilyflight charged towards the den, making up her mind. The tom scrambled to his paws and chased after her through the dust. His eyes began to water as the dust particles floated toward them, uninvited. Lilyflight's pelt melted into the darkness of the den and he followed her.

The she-cat shifted around to get in a better position. Pineheart couldn't even move a single hair on his pelt as she wiggled around, and adjusted his position afterward. Now laying side by side, Pineheart had the time to collect his thoughts. They were simply talking, and then a dust storm hit them. The silence dragged on as they both stared out the exit.

"How long do you think we're going to be stuck here?" Pineheart asked nervously, daring to inch closer to the pretty she-cat.

"If it means that I can stay away from the tormenting Wickedstar and the grumpy old snowy owl, I'd be more than happy to stay stuck in here for two moons." Lilyflight replied without a second thought. Once the question was answered, the conversation died.

Pineheart glanced outside. He couldn't see anything through the cloud of dust. The storm seemed never-ending, forcing the two of them to wait the storm out. The only company and some sort of entertainment they had were each other.

Oh, it was worth it. Pineheart's heart fluttered like a butterfly. Staying with Lilyflight in a small shelter in a dust storm. Maybe he would've chosen a better scene for a romantic moment, but he wasn't going to let this moment slip through his claws.

"Hey, Pineheart," Lilyflight whispered quietly, but with enough force to shake him from his daydream, "How long do you think we're going to be stuck here?"

"Didn't I already ask that?" Pineheart reminded.

"Yes, but what's your answer?"

Pineheart frowned, pondering about an answer. "As short as we can," Lilyflight turned her head towards him in shock. "so we don't have to suffer from Wickedstar or Snowtalon."

"Wickedstar is probably wickedly waiting this storm out, that is, if it hit the Clan," Lilyflight muttered something else he couldn't pick up with his left ear getting the screams and roars from the storm raging on. "While Snowtalon's most likely sleeping it out. Old hag has no clue that a dust storm has hit."

"Well that's good; the two most important cats have been taken care of," Pineheart suggested, adding a smile on his face. He hoped to see Lilyflight smile back, but her lips didn't so much as quiver.

"What if we take them both out? Overthrow them?" Lilyflight pipped up out of the blue.

"I hate the Clan life too," Pineheart agreed. "Getting punished for thinking that Snowtalon is grumpy and old when every cat can clearly see that he is!"

"Don't forget about that annoying pathetic excuse of a warrior Stormfall, always trying to brainwash us to follow the almighty powerful, and wicked, Wickedstar." Lilyflight added with a purr.

"And Twistedbranch. Always sharp and ready to punish us." Pineheart said.

"We should overthrow the Clan," Lilyflight repeated. "Think! We kick Wickedstar off of her wicked butt, toss Snowtalon off the cliff, and then Stormfall and Twistedbranch will run around like a cat without a head!"

"Um... I'm pretty sure that a cat without a head doesn't run at all." Pineheart pointed out.

"Then that takes care of four cats! All we need is a group of cats like us that want to rebel!" Lilyflight exclaimed happily.

"Who would---"

"Are you doubting me?!" Lilyflight screeched.

"What about Thrushwing?" Pineheart asked, trying to get her in a better mood. "She would be a good addition to the rebellion."

"Yes!" Lilyflight jumped, "and Flarefang too! You'll join too, right?" Lilyflight asked, nodding towards him.

"I-I! Uh..." Pineheart stammered to find the words. "O-of course! A-anything!"

"Great! We've got at least two solid members now! All we have to do is wait this storm out!" Lilyflight chirped like a bird, and with that said, the conversation ended.
