Feast
I open my eyes and feel warmth around my waist and ankle. I look down and see Shane is holding one of my legs again. I turn my head to look behind me and am met face to face with Lucas. I'm fully awake now and have no clue what to do.
(I can't get up like this.) I twist my leg trying to free my leg from Shane. I finally get my leg free and Shane rolls over. I try to get out of Lucas' grasp but his grip tightens. (Is he awake?) I turn to look at his face and it shows no sign of him being awake.
"Lucas! Lucas... Lucas! Let go of me!" I whisper.
(No reply...)
I start to wiggle around to try and wake him. He doesn't budge. (What do I do?) I tap his arms. I turn my body around and now I'm facing him.
(This is not any better!) I push at his chest. (Still not waking up? Fine, I guess I will shock him a little.) I put my finger on his arm and zap him. Lucas flinches and slowly opens his eyes. Lucas' eyes pop right open and his face turns red.
"U-umm, could you maybe let go of me?" I ask.
He realizes he's holding me and quickly let's go. I'm pretty sure right now we are probably both red as a tomato.
"S-sorry..." he says nervously.
"I-it's o-okay..." I say quietly. "Let's go get breakfast."
"S-sure," he says.
I grab two sharp sticks and give him one. We then head into the woods.
While we're walking it seems so awkward the air feels tense. We haven't talked or even looked at each other. I guess it's better to remain silent when we're hunting after all.
We've been walking around for a while and haven't found anything.
(This would be so much easier if I could use my powers, but that's obviously not gonna happen.)
I sniff the air to see if I can pick up a scent of an animal, but I don't pick up anything.
"We should head back," Lucas says.
"Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing," I say.
We head back, grab the net, and a few cocobowls. Then we head to the grove.
When we get there we automatically start to pick fruit. We load all the fruit into the net and wrap it up. We fill up 9 cocobowls with water, too.
When I start to lift up the fruit Lucas comes over and takes it from me. "I got it. This is heavy, so I'll carry it," he says.
I don't argue and let him walk off with it.
I grab a cocobowl and stack it on top of my head. I get 3 along each arm, kinda like how a waitress carries out the dinner plates if there's more than two, then two in each hand.
Again this was a part of my princess training. I had to have perfect balance. Which comes in handy sometimes because there was no way I was gonna take two trips.
I hurry to catch up with Lucas and we walk back to the camp.
Right when we get to the camp I start dicing up the fruit. I place an even amount of every fruit in 9 cocobowls.
I take two fruit and two waters, and sit next to Lucas on the same log from last time.
I hand him the fruit and water.
"Thanks," Lucas says.
"You know what we need?" I ask popping a piece of fruit in my mouth.
"What?" he asks.
"We need a large table," I say.
He laughs. "And how do you assume we do that?" he asks.
I lighty punch his arm. "I don't know! I was just saying!" I say and laugh. "We need to build some shelters too, so we won't be sleeping out here anymore."
He lowers his head. "Yeah..." he says apologetically.
"Don't worry about it, I'm not mad about what happened. I don't mind either. It's okay," I say.
He looked at me shocked. "R-really?"
"I don't mind," I say. "A-actually it was kinda nice..." Realizing what I just said I put my hands over my mouth.
He looks at me wide eyed.
"U-umm, s-sorry..." I say. "I uh..." I fall silent and look away.
I feel something wrap around me. (He's hugging me!)
"W-what are you doing?!" I yell.
"You said you didn't mind," he says.
"You have a girlfriend!" I exclaim.
"She probably thinks I'm dead. This is the third day we've been here. The cruise ended yesterday. The news about us must be out and she probably will be with someone else if we ever get back," he says.
"That may be true, but we can't," I say. "So let me go."
"No," he says.
"If I say yes, will you let me go?" I ask.
"Possibly," he says.
"Well, if we are still here after a few weeks then maybe," I say. He doesn't let go. "I thought if I said yes you would let go?"
"I never agreed I would," he says.
I pinch the inner skin of his upper arm.
"Owww!" he shrieks and let's me go.
I quickly scoot away.
At his yell everyone wakes up.
"What happened?!" Jason says jumping up in a defensive position.
"N-nothing!" I yelled. "Lucas just tripped, right?"
"Um y-yeah..." Lucas says rubbing his inner arm.
"Anyway, your breakfast is over there. Grab a fruit bowl and a water bowl," I say trying to change the subject.
They all run over except Johnny. I grab the food and water and bring them to him.
"Thanks," Johnny says.
"No problem," I say and begin to stand up.
"Wait," Johnny says. I stop and look at him. "What really happened?"
"Nothing gets passed you, does it?" I ask.
"Nope! So, what happened?" he asks again.
"I pinched him right here," I say pointing to where I pinched Lucas.
"Ouch, that does hurt," he says.
"Haha, yeah, I know," I say. "That's why I did it. Anyway, eat up."
"Alright," he says and takes a bite.
Once everyone finishes eating I begin to talk.
"Today we need to build the shelters. How about we get started?" I say.
We grab sticks and stand them up tightly together and weave the vines through them, both the top and bottom. We make four walls and put them up, having one wall shorter for a door. We tie them all together and make a roof for it. We connect the roof and throw some leaves on top.
"Got one up!" Jason shouts.
"Yeah, now only 8 left..." I say bringing down everyone's spirit. "We need to make a door as well."
We get sticks and make it a little bigger than the doorway. We use vines as hinges and tie them through a hole. We strap the door on and I try it out.
"Good. It works," Shane says relieved.
"We need more wood. Trio and Lucas go and get some more. Shane and Zack come with me, let's see if it's low tide. Erwin stay with Johnny," I say and walk off. Everyone walks off to do what I said.
"What're we doing?" Shane asks.
"You'll see. Just collect some big rocks along the way," I say as I pick up a few large rocks and continue walking.
Meanwhile Lucas and the Trio getting wood...
The Trio and I begin picking up wood and bring it back to the camp, setting it in a pile.
"What really happened earlier with Kat?" Jason asks me.
"Yeah, I don't think someone would yell that loud when they just trip," Tyler adds.
"Unless it was down a hill or over a cliff maybe," Jason says.
(Yeah right, like I would ever trip or fall over a cliff. I would just fly... of course I can't tell them that.)
"What happened Lucas?" Tony asks.
(I can't tell them I was hugging her... they would get mad at me.)
"She pinched me right here," I say and point to my under arm.
"Ouch dude, what did you do?" Jason asks.
(I knew he would ask that.) I sighed. (I hate to lie but...)
"She was trying to help me stay up cause I was dozing off," I say.
"Why? You tired?" Tyler asks.
"Yeah, cause she woke me up early," I say.
"Why?" Jason asks.
(Arghh! They're like two year olds! Why this why that! Grr... That leads back to hugging her!)
"She wanted me to help her pick fruit," I say hoping they won't ask anymore questions.
(I swear if one of them asks why I'm gonna scream.)
"Oh, okay, so she pinched you to keep you up. What a way to wake someone up," Jason says.
(Thank you, God!)
Then we go back to collecting wood after they stare at me funny for a little while.
I think back to when we were hugging while we continue to collect wood.
(She smelled like one the halfie... There is no way she could be... but it would make a little since about some things... Like the fast way she opened that survival kit lock, how she dug the fire hole so perfect and quickly, how she jumped from the tree without killing herself and without a sound, and how she can sneak up on me. She is troubling... Was everything she told me a lie? I don't wanna believe that...)
At the beach...
We have our arms full of big rocks by the time we get to the beach. We set them down by the shore.
"Good it's low tide," I say wiping my hands off on my pants.
"How did you carry that many rocks?" Shane asks not believing what he saw.
"Remember what I told you before?" I ask. "Anyway, we are gonna make a wall with the rocks shaped into a 'V'. We need to make it big and tall so fish can't get out of it. We need more rocks so go. I will begin the wall."
They leave and I strip down to my bathing suit. I grab the rocks and start to make the wall.
The guys return and look at me wide eyed.
"W-what are you doing?" Shane asks and his face turns red.
"What? I'm wearing my bathing suit, perv."
His face gets even more red now with embarrassment. "T-that's right... I forgot..."
"Dumbass," I laugh. "Just go get more rocks." They leave.
After many trips back and forth they finally get enough rocks and we finish the wall.
"Can we leave now?" Shane complains.
"Yeah, we've finished the wall. We will come back later to see if we caught anything. Let's go eat lunch," I say grabbing my clothes.
We head to the grove and pick fruit then back to the camp.
"I'm tried of fruit," Shane complains.
"So hopefully the fish catcher will work and we have some fish for dinner," I say.
"I hope so..." Shane says.
"Me too," Zack says.
We all eat and manage to get two more huts up. After a few hours, we run out of wood again.
"We'll make more tomorrow. Tonight we split into 3 groups. The Duo and Erwin. Lucas, Shane, and I in another. Trio in the last. Also, who has held a fish before and aren't afraid to grab one." The Trio and Duo raise their hands. "Okay, come with me." I begin walking to the beach and the Trio follow quietly behind.
At the beach it's low tide again and the capture wall is full of fish.
"Whoo!" we cheered.
The Trio grabs a fish in each of their hands on the first try.
"Aren't you gonna grab some too?" Jason asks.
"Why do you think I asked if anybody was able to grab a fish? I don't do that," I say laughing. "Come on, let's go back and show everyone what we caught!"
We have maybe 2 hours before it gets dark. The fish die along the way to the camp.
Everyone cheered when we got to the camp. I see that they built the fire up so we can cook the fish.
"We got the fire all set up like a stove just so we can cook the fish," Lucas says.
"I see, good thinking," I say. "Can someone gut the fish?"
Jason came up, "I'll do it. I do it all the time."
"Be my guest," I say and hand him the knife. I don't watch as Jason guts them. Everyone laughs at me. "What? It's gross! Once you finish cleaning it I can cook it."
"Okay then, cook em," Jason says.
"Go wash them off in the lagoon. I'm gonna go look for vegetables and herbs. Shane wanna come?" I ask.
"Sure, it beats doin' nothing around here," he says and gets up to follow me. We walk into the forest and a little while later Shane complains. "We've been walking forever and haven't found anything!"
"Shut up, I didn't bring you to hear your complaining. We've only been walking for about 10 minutes." I look ahead of me and use my night vision. "Look, bell peppers! Red, orange, green, and yellow! Shane start collecting!"
"I don't even see anything," Shane says.
"Follow me," I say. He follows me and I bend down to pick some. "Right here. Now begin picking."
"Okay, okay, I am, I am," Shane says.
"Erwin come grab some too," I say.
"Wait what?!" Shane says shocked and looks around confused.
Erwin comes out from behind a tree. "H-how did you know?"
"I knew you followed from the beginning. I also have very good senses," I say.
"I didn't notice Erwin at all," Shane says. "You're like a ninja."
(How about a super powerful princess halfie?)
"Yep!" I say happily. Erwin comes over and begins picking all the peppers he can hold. We all head back with arms full of bell peppers. "Hey, do you guys smell onions."
"It wasn't me I swear!" Shane yells.
"I'm not talking about farts and gross," I say giving him a 'really' look. "Like the vegetable." I look around to see a few. "Perfect." I grab a few. "Tonight we shall have a feast!"
"Yay!" Erwin and Shane cheer.
I grab the fish and lay it on the big flat rock. I grab the bottle with the coconut juice and poor it in a cocobowl. I get the knife, thank goodness they cleaned it off, and chop up a few vegetables into dices. I place all the vegetables in the coconut juice.
I notice all the guys are watching me with very noticeable impressed faces. I turn around and say, "What?"
"Nothing you just don't look like the person that could cook," Lucas says for everyone and everyone nods agreeing with him.
I turn back around. "There's a lot of things I do that might surprise you," I say moving the fish. I set the cocobowl full of vegetables on the stove to cook the them.
"Like what?" Tony asks.
"I can play piano," I say.
"Really?" Tyler asks.
"Yeah, I taught myself. I play by ear," I say stirring the vegetables.
"What else?" Jason asks.
"I love playing video games," I say.
"No way! What do you play?" Jason asks excitedly.
"Anything but racing games. Those piss me off," I say.
"Sweet!" Jason exclaims.
"What else?" Erwin asks.
"Hmm, I'm a fast runner," I say. "I can knit too."
"Okay, grandma," Shane says rolling his eyes.
"I can fight. I know judo, karate, taekwondo, and other things that I can't remember the exact name for," I say.
"That's incredible!" Johnny says.
"That and I can sing," I say flipping the fish over.
"Sing?" Lucas says.
I turn around and look at him. Our eyes meet and I quickly avert my gaze.
"Yes, sing," I say. "I can sing."
"Then sing for us," Tony says.
"N-no, I'm not gonna sing. You have to catch me singing," I say.
"Bah, that's no fun," Johnny says.
I cut into the fish, it's ready and so is the sauce. "Don't worry you'll all hear me sing at some point..." I cut one of the fish in half and put half in a cocobowl with some sauce for me. "Maybe sometime soon I'll sing around you guys." I put the other half in another cocobowl and give it to Shane. I cut the the rest of all the fish in half. "We have a fish and a half left for whoever is still hungry after they finish their first portion. I don't want a stupid fight over it."
The sun had set and everyone finished eating. Zack, Lucas, and Jason were the ones who got the extra fish. I didn't care though I had more than enough with just half of the fish. They were some pretty big fish.
"That was delicious," Lucas says. "You are a really good cook."
"That was good," everyone admitted.
"You'd make a good wife. Whoever marries you will be a lucky guy," Lucas says.
Embarrassed from all the compliments I manage a, "thank you."
"I'm beat. I'm gonna go to bed," Zack says.
"Same here," Johnny says.
"I don't see how you'd be tired. You didn't even do anything," Shane says.
I smack him on the head. "Stop trying to fight everyone," I say.
Zack helps Johnny and they walk to a hut.
"Well if they're going I should too," Erwin says and follows after them. "Goodnight!"
"Us too," Jason says motioning the Trio to come. The Trio head off to the first hut we made.
I grab the net and wrap up all the dirty cocobowls in it. "I'm gonna go rinse these off," I say. "Coming?"
"Sure, I'm not tired yet," Shane says.
We walk to the lagoon and begin to wash them. It's a full moon so the island is well lit. We finish and head back to the camp.
Shane looks like he's about to pass out. "Shane, go to sleep," I say. "Okay?"
"Okay..." Shane says and walks to the hut.
"Well I'm gonna go to," Lucas says and follows behind Shane.
Good, I can have a chance to bathe now. I get up and head towards the lagoon.
I take off everything except my bathing suit and set it on the ledge behind the waterfall. Eventually I start to sing like I always do when I'm bathing.
I put my head under the waterfall and rustle my hair. I rub down my arms, legs, face, belly, chest, backside, everything even if I don't have soap I feel a lot cleaner.
(Somebody's watching me...)
"Come out!" I yell. "Dammit, I thought I said no peeking!"
Lucas walks out eyes closed. "S-sorry! I-I didn't mean to peek!"
I can tell he didn't mean to peek by the way he spoke.
"It's fine this time, I'm only in my bathing suit."
"Oh okay," he says uncovering his eyes. "Can I wash off too?"
"Y-yeah, sure," I say unsure.
"Okay, so let me explain. I was in the hut and you still didn't come so I got worried and went looking for you. I walked around and heard faint singing. Walking towards it I found you," he says. "So I hid and listened. You sounded like an angel, you were amazing."
(I will admit I'm kinda offended in a way because I'm not an angel in the exact opposite. I bet he has experience with that.) I was speechless. He takes off his tank top and gets in the water. My heart is racing.
"Did I make you speechless?" Lucas asks like he just read my mind. He walks over to me.
"No..." I say quietly.
"No what?" he asks.
"No, this isn't right!" I yell. I go to grab my things but Lucas grabs my hand and pulls me into an embrace.
"You can cook fantastically, sing, play video games, and you're beautiful," he says in my ear.
I push his chest away, but he doesn't budge.
(How did he not move!? That was a hard shove!)
"Even though I want this, it isn't right," I say shocked that I just said that.
"So you like this?" he says confidentiality.
"That's not the point," I say.
"What if I do this?" he says and grabs my chin forcing me to look at him. "Or this?" He puts his forehead against mine. My heart feels like it's beating out of my chest and I hope he doesn't notice. He backs off and looks at me. "You're beet red, Kat."
"W-well i-it's all your fault!" I yell.
He laughs. I grab my things and stomp off to the camp. I dry myself off with a bandana and put my clothes back on.
I head into the hut quietly to not wake Shane and lay down. I listen to Shane's soft even breaths and it reminds me of what just happened. I almost had a heart attack!
A little later Lucas comes in and begins to whisper. "Kat? Are you still up?" I am but I'm not gonna say anything. "I don't blame you for not talking to me. I'm so sorry. I just... am different when I'm around you." I feel him lie down next to me. I'm in the middle of Lucas and Shane. Not again... "It also might have been the fact that it was a full moon tonight..."
(What would a full moon have to do with anything-? The full moon! No way! Did he?! Gahh!! Dammit Lucas!)
...
Question: What qualities do you look for in a man/woman?
