Interview with TheFoxMcCloud

How did you discovered Wattpad?

I was at work at a local mini golf course and I was working on typing one of my stories. One of my customers noticed I was writing and told me about Wattpad since his daughter used the site, and said that people could post books and get reviews here. So I made a profile and started posting chapters of my book now that I am getting editing done.

What inspired you to write?

I've been writing Star Fox fan fiction for years. I guess my love for the game really influenced that. Especially since a new Star Fox game hasn't come out in nearly 10 years, I've resorted to writing my own stories about the team instead. My brother @thefoehammers helped inspire me to actually write my book on Wattpad, Star Fox: Eclipse.

Have you ever published books that aren't about Star Fox?

No, not yet anyway. I've always wanted to do a Warriors fanfic, and I'm planning to write a short piece for a competition soon. Call me a one trick pony, but I just love writing Star Fox XD

What made you like Star Fox so much?

I've loved the game ever since I first played a demo for Star Fox Adventures in a local Best Buy. After playing the first level as Krystal, I knew I wanted the game. I played through Adventures and Assault and just fell in love with the characters and the universe. I am invested in the characters, and I feel so attached to their stories. I love writing about each and every character, going into their minds and into their worlds. It's hard to describe really, it's hard to explain why I am so passionate about Star Fox when I've played so many other games and read so many other books. Why Star Fox above all the others? I guess the games and characters were such a big part of my childhood that I never want to let go.

Do you ever get writer's block? If so, how do you overcome it?

Yes, I got writer's block several times while writing Star Fox: Eclipse... Overcoming it isn't easy. Usually it's best (for me at least) not to fight it. If I'm having a bad writing day, then I just put everything down and take a break. Maybe go listen to some music and try to free up my mind some, and if that doesn't work, just leave it all and come back to it tomorrow or whenever I have time to write next.

What do you think is the best/worst features on Wattpad?

Best feature(s) of Wattpad: Wattpad has many users, with large communities of readers and writers of a multitude of subjects. Almost every reader can find something of interest on this site, and writers are very well supported by these readers. The community is great overall, and I enjoy interacting with you guys :D I also really like the writer analytics. It is nice to know how many new and returning viewers I have on my books every day, as well as tracking comments/votes etc.

Worst feature(s): Trying to upload pictures at the start of a chapter/section of a story is annoying on the computer version. I can make it work by using photos on my phone, but it is annoying having to switch back and forth between the two. I also had problems fitting an image as my background, so really just having problems with using images. Other than that, I don't have too many complaints.

What's your favourite book and who's your favourite author?

My favorite book: It's hard to just pick one book... I would have to go with The Hobbit by Tolkien, since I haven't read any of the Lord Of the Rings Yet but I'm really hoping to someday...

Favorite author has to go to Erin Hunter, author of the Warriors series (Erin is actually several people under one name but I won't list them all...) I love the Warriors series, I own and have read every book to date, and Warriors partially contributes to my love of writing. The only reason I didn't list a Warriors book as my favorite is because there are so many and they are all so good! XD

What songs do you listen to? Do you also listen to them while writing?

Songs I listen to: I like Christian rock, but other than that I don't listen to much. I like bands like Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, Third Day, Skillet, For King and Country, Newsboys, etc, and I listen to pretty much all of their songs.

I don't like to listen to music while writiing, I pretty much need to have perfect peace and quiet. Like, as in absolute quiet. I do, however, use music to help me get ideas for stories. I listen to a lot of Anime music, mostly intros for Sword Art Online and Naruto Shippuden. Idk why, I just love listening to Japanese music even though I have no idea what most of it is saying. It gets my mind going and helps me think of ideas for writing.

What's your favourite movie/TV show?

Favorite Movie: I'll just say all of them, but the Lord of the Rings movies by Peter Jackson. Some really amazing movies, from the story to the characters to the action and adventure. The scenery and filming is beautiful, especially the many scense shot in New Zealand (where most of the films were shot). They are just great movies all around and I'm a nerd for that type of stuff XD

Favorite TV show? My bro and I are hooked on Naruto Shippuden at the moment, and are watching it like crazy on Hulu. I like several other animes, such as Sword Art Online and the older Yu-Gi-Oh series, but Naruto is the big one. Actually, one of the main reasons I began writing Star Fox was because I wanted to write about action and fighting, like hand-to-hand combat because I watched Naruto as a kid. I still love that part about writing, and I thank that show for it.

Who's your favourite actor/actress?

My favorite Actor/Actress... I'd probably have to go with Viggo Mortensen, although a close second would be Ian McKellen (both from the Lord of the Rings series directed by Peter Jackson).

Viggo Mortensen played Aragorn/Strider phenomenally throughout the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've watched some of the documentaries and extras at the end of the films, and Viggo was said to have almost always remained in character, even off the set! Peter Jackson could refer to him as Aragorn while not even filming and he would answer to it as if he really was the King of Gondor himself. Of all the LOTR actors, Viggo was (I believe) the only one to actually use a REAL sword while filming, instead of fake, lighter swords that the other cast members used. He is very well trained in sword fighting and used this expertise well in acting. He chipped a tooth while fiming a secne by the Anduin River (where Frodo leaves the fellowship), and immediately got it glued back on to continue filming just hours later. (I know way too much about the Lord of the Rings movies, but it is all really fascinating stuff. I could keep going, but I don't want to rant too long...)

In short, Viggo is one of my favorite actors of all time because he really gets into character and is extremely devoted to what he does. He played an amazing Aragorn for sure, in my opinion.

If you could travel to any place in the world (even in books or movies), where will it be?

I would travel to a place that would take me to both a real location and a place from a book. That would be New Zealand. The location where the majority of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies were filmed, this place is amazing. New Zealand is such a beautiful country, anyone who has seen the above movies would know. The mountains and hills are spectacular, and there are farms with lots of sheep there that remind me a lot of home (I live on a farm). Lol. The best part of traveling to New Zealand is that I could go and actually see what was filmed in Peter Jackson's movie series for real. The Shire, the home of the hobbits Frodo and Sam, is actually a real place in New Zealand, and people can go there and visit like they are really living in the world of the movie. In New Zealand I could also visit the WETA workshop, where many of the props, weapons, makeup, creatures, and other things were created and developed for the LOTR and Hobbit movies. There is also merchandise, etc, and then I would feel like a kid in a candy store. LOL. I think someday I will really go visit New Zealand and the Shire especially. I made it a goal to take a vacation there sometime before I die :D

How will you feel if the makers of Star Fox made a newer version of this game?

A new Star Fox game for the Wii U was actually announced at E3 2014, and is supposedly going to be released this year. We should hear more about it at E3 this year, with even playable versions of the game.

The release of a new Star Fox game is somewhat complicated. It's been nearly 10 years since the last unique Star Fox title was released, Star Fox Command in 2006 I believe. The game itself was not the best, with a strange story with 9 different endings, none of which are known to be the 'true ending.' It's questionable if the events of the game are even canon to the Star Fox universe. That having happened, the Star Fox game series has been left on the brink of death for quite a while...

So the question in my mind, and surely many Star Fox fans, is "will Nintendo bring back our favorite game series to its former glory, or will this game be the last straw that kills it for good."

I'm really hoping for the former, but I'm trying not to be too optimistic. The Nintendo gaming systems since the Wii have been more like toys than serious gaming consoles like the Playstation and the Xbox. I feel like Nintendo will be too focused on the gameplay and involving the Wii U game pad, and the story for the game will suffer as a result. But again I try to have faith in Nintendo. I guess we will have to see. Another long-winded response, but I've done some decent research and this is a big deal for me, since it's been so long since the last Star Fox game.

Would you buy it when it comes out?

The only problem is that I don't have a Wii U... but for Star Fox, it would probably be worth it for me to get the Wii U just for that game. So yes, probably.

What will you do if a famous director decided to make a movie out of your book?

That would be pretty great! I feel like my book is almost better as a movie or a video game anyway. I really like it as a book, but I could definitely see it as a movie or a video game as well. I would be pretty excited if that were to happen, and I would definitely pursue that if it was ever offered to me lol.

Would you like to say anything to your supporters/friends on Wattpad? Any special shout outs?

Thank you all so much for reading and supporting my book, Star Fox: Eclipse, and interacting with me through Ask the Star Fox Team. Every read, every vote, every comment, and every follow means so much and I am so thankful that you read and enjoy my work. Hopefully after reading this, you will know how much I love Star Fox, and how important Eclipse is to me.

I'd like to give a few shout outs to:

@Crazymetroid101, for being my first ever read, vote, and follower @SyxxFox, for being another novelist who has not only inspired me to write, but has also helped me out some along the way @Angelgamerlove, for editing my book cover and always being one of the first to read and vote for new chapters @TheAshley, my loving GF. Even though you don't know much about Star Fox, thank you for always believing in me when I don't even believe in myself. @Kimcgray95, for allowing me to use your artwork in my Story Arc pages, and for always posting so many nice comments in my book.

And lastly, @TheFoehammers, my brother, for inspiring me, believing in my idea and dream of Star Fox: Eclipse enough to persuade me to write it in the first place. For being there every step of the way as the book progressed, helping me with story ideas, and helping to make my book the best it could ever be.

And to every reader and follower of mine, thank you so much. Just because I didn't mention you above doesn't mean I dont appreciate your support. I send everyone a thank you message for following me just because each and every one means so much to me, and I really to appreciate it.
