I fluttered my eyes opened, sensing that I was laying on a dusty, soft surface.
Wait, I forgot. Before I go any further, I'm Alek--I, Alek, am narrating this.
Okay.
So I was laying on dirt with my back facing up. I felt the air very thick and moist, like as if it was humid. I was not used to this type of atmosphere, so I did not like it. I wrinkled my nose and slowly slid up to my knees, trying figure out where I was.
I found myself in the middle of a room that was entirely made out of dirt, like as if someone dug up the ground, went inside, and made a ceiling consisting of dirt to stay in place. There were lights installed in the ceiling, casting brightness into the area and making shadows very visible. I looked in front of me and saw what seemed like a metallic box with blue-pained edges and a keyhole on its side on the other side of the small room.
But how did I get here?
Oh right, I got knocked out...by The Enemy. Just like what the girl had predicted.
Speaking of the devil, a mist of black smoke appeared in front of me and The Enemy sauntered out of it; he had an evil smirk on his face.
"Well, well, well, it's about time we all encountered each other," he told someone who was behind me.
I snapped my head over to my shoulder to see who he was talking to.
Behind me was Andrea, Bree, Cade, and Poncho--all of HEROES. He got us all, I thought to myself. How? I saw that they were scared; I don't blame them, I had to admit that I was a bit as well.
"You don't know how long I've been waiting for this moment," The Enemy continued on, rubbing his hands together. "I got you guys, HEROES--" He extended his hand toward us. "--and the one and only..." He reverted his hand toward the metallic box. "...Machine of the World."
So that's the Machine of the World, I thought to myself. That's what we were trying to avoid The Enemy from getting... We failed.
"Thanks to Brent, or as you guys know him as Poncho, for helping me claim this wonderful piece of supernatural ability--" He extended his hand beyond me; I followed it, see that he was pointing to Poncho, who had a guilty look on his face.
He is evil, I thought to myself. Of course, it shouldn't be a surprise.
"--I couldn't have done it without you," he told him.
Poncho just dipped his head down with his hands clasped in front of him.
"But don't worry guys," he continued on talking to us, "the school isn't destroyed...just the football field, which is what we're under right now." We all looked up at the brown, dusty ceiling. "So there won't be any football for a while here at your school." We all looked back at him.
This has got to stop, I thought to myself as I stared at The Enemy with horror as he continued speaking, no one is doing anything. If that's the case, then I'll make the first move.
Then with a deep breath, I immediately jumped to my feet and shouted, "You will never get that machine."
The Enemy shrugged with a cocky look. "Too bad, it seems like I already got it."
Ugh, stupid English. "You will not..." I began rattling my mind to think of the right word. "...get the power that's in the machine..."
"Too bad." He swiftly held up an old-fashion key into the air. "I'm planning on doing it right now."
"Нет!" No! I rushed up to him while generating a block of glass around my fist and smashed it against his head.
The Enemy immediately clutched onto his head with his free hand, stumbling back a bit; his eyes were closed with a frown. "Ugh..."
He opened them and removed his hand from his head, revealing blood on his head and hand. "That's not gonna do anything." Then in a flash, he switched out the key for a syringe, and shoved it into my neck with his hand on my shoulder.
I gritted my teeth, embracing myself for whatever pain was going to come from the injection. But instead of feeling pain, an idea came into my mind. "You're not getting that power from the machine...'cause I'm gonna get it." I then shoved him off from me and gave him another blow to the head.
The Enemy collapsed to the ground, making him lose possession of the key that must've been tucked inside his layer of clothes; the key fell to the right side, near the machine.
I made a dive for it, but a blast of black smoke redirected my action, thrusting me across the room. My back was slammed against the dirt wall and I tumbled to the ground. No. I got back up and emitted a wave of glass shards straight at him.
The Enemy ducked with speed and made an offensive move by shooting two ribbons of taut, black smoke at my feet. I jumped into the air and produced a large, long piece of glass, thrusting it at him. The glass spun in the air as it neared him, cutting his left arm.
"AHCK!" He gripped his injured arm as the glass shattered behind him. He gave me a menacing stare; I shot him back a dark look.
Suddenly, a searing pain swiped through my mind, causing me to collapse to my knees. It was the same exact pain I got from when I first encountered him at the event. I dug my fingers into my hair while gritting my teeth, trying to bear the sharp, excruciating agony.
"STOP!" I heard Andrea yell out from behind me.
"Why?" I heard The Enemy ask. "You want to be claimed as well?"
"No! Let's just settle this in a friendly matter, okay?"
"Well, unfortunately, doing this in a friendly matter takes too long... Longer than the time you have left in your life."
"Wha?" I heard her breath out.
A few seconds later, I felt a massive force blast from behind me as a warm sensation hit me on my back. I was thrown onto the ground, back onto my stomach. I immediately noticed that the pain was gone, so with a sigh of relief, I slowly got back up to my feet.
While getting up, I spotted bright, purple-coloured embers scattered on the dirt floor. Where did those come from...? I straightened up fully, looking at The Enemy. "What happened?"
He had a villainous smile, looking ahead of me. I looked behind me, seeing that Andrea was no where to be seen. Andrea...? I turned back to look at him. "Where did Andrea go?"
"Poof," he said softly as he made an explosion motion with two hands.
She...exploded‽ I had a horrified look on my face. The one who helped me out with my personal issues...is gone? "Why?" I bellowed at him. "Why did she explode?"
"Because of her powers," The Enemy started off in a sophisticated matter. "All of you have powers...powers that I gave you. I programmed those powers so that on my command, they will malfunction, increase in their energy so much that you won't be able to contain them and that will result in your death." He paused for a moment. "And there's nothing you can do about 'cause non of you guys have telepathy or any other type of mental power or power that can manipulate powers."
"How did you give us our powers though?" Cade asked; I turned to look at him.
"It's all different stories for you guys: Andrea got her's when I had her in hostage, Bree got her's when I used to go to school with her and I rebooted her powers while she was first fighting with you guys; Alek got his when he was in hostage as well, and you got your's when my team blew your mini jet up. And Brent...he got his willingly, since he was working with me."
"You have powers?" Bree questioned Poncho with wide eyes.
He nodded his head without saying a word.
"How could you betray us like this?" she asked more quietly.
"He promised that I would be able to walk again," he whispered to her.
"Well then, it's time for you guys to say...goodbye," The Enemy said; he said 'goodbye' in a perky voice.
I snapped my attention toward him. "NO!" I then lunged at him as I felt double the force erupting from behind me. I landed harshly right on top of him.
The Enemy stared at me with narrowed eyes. "Too late, Sasha."
Blinded with fury and and ire, I quickly generated a shard of glass and shoved it into his chest and rapidly pulled it out.
His eyes immediately widened with shock. He began to shakily breath, trying to hold onto his life.
"No, too late for you, Jake," I told him back. I pushed him against the ground and stood up, looming over him.
"You're lucky," The Enemy muttered out, "that you didn't get your powers from me... You already had them in you, so you can't explode..."
"No, I didn't." I then kicked him in the head, wanting him to shut up.
And he did.
With a deep breath and a grave look, I darted my eyes to the ground, spotting the key The Enemy had. I scooped it up from the ground and sauntered over to the machine, having my eyes locked on the keyhole. I extended my hand with the key toward the machine, excited to know that I could have unlimited power by just unlocking it.
But before I was able to fit the key into the hole, a blast of force impelled into the air, making me crash into the wall that was behind it.
Then everything went black for me.
Again.
