Now it was just Aderyn and me in the the room alone.
I felt uncomfortable in the state I was in, but I had no choice but to stay put the way I was. I hope that I would be able to get back to normal as soon as possible in order to get back with life and figure it out. Maybe Aderyn would know when I can get my lower half of my body back.
"So, tell me, Alek," Aderyn started as she began pacing back and forth in front of me, "do you know your basic information, like where you're from, how old you are...?" She halted in front of me with her hands clasped behind her back.
"Um..." I thought for a moment, then the information came to me. "Yeah, I know that I'm from St. Petersburg and I'm seventeen years old."
"Ummm..." She looked uncertain for a bit, but continued on with the questions. "And when's your birthday?"
I made an odd look. I remembered the word 'birthday,' but I don't remember what it meant. "Um, January?" was my first guess.
Aderyn nodded her head and gave the motion for me to continue speaking.
"January," I said again.
"January what?"
"Wha?"
"What's the date you were born in?"
I paused for a moment. "Birthday is the day I was born in?"
"Yes." She nodded her head. "Date, month, and year."
I nodded my head, now understanding what it meant. "January..." I then began stumbling on my English mentally, since I did not know how to say the rest of my birthday in that language. "...седьмой, 2026," I finished off in Russian. ...seventh,
Aderyn had a bewildered expression on her face with wide eyes. "Can you say that in English?"
I shrugged. "I don't know how."
"Well, at least you know your birthday, right?" She threw her hands up in the air.
"Yeah." I nodded my head.
"Okay, good. So now..." She gave the impression of thinking deeply by her facial expression. "...do you know where you're at? Like which country?"
I gazed around my surroundings, hoping it would give me some type of hint since I had no clue where I was. "No..." My eyes landed back on her.
"Well, that's fine since you've been enclosed here for the past year..." She looked behind her should to see the rest of the room that she stood in front of. "You're still here in the wonderful, supernatural state of Lanston--"
"But wait," I cut in, "how did I get knocked out?"
Aderyn snapped her head back at me. "You don't know how?"
"No, but Xavier told me I was caught in an explosion... Is that right?" I made a concerned look.
"Yeah, you were." She nodded her head.
"But how did that happen? Why was I there when an explosion happened? How did I get myself there?"
"Well..." She scratched her head in deep thought. "...from what Xavier told me, you were trying to save the leader of HEROES..." She dropped her hand down.
"'Leader of HEROES?'"
"Yeah, the leader of the group you were in. It was a group that was formed to protect the school that you guys were going to from Jake McCoy, a good-guy-turned-into-villain, whose intention was to destory the school in order to get the Machine Of the World and open it up to gain Inverse Omnipotence."
Non of that clicked in my mind. I understood it, I just didn't remember me being apart of that stuff. "So what happened to that group: HEROES?"
"It's gone." Aderyn threw her hands into the air, letting them slap her sides when they dropped down. "It was gone a long time ago, right after you were knocked out. There were four members, one representing each class grade in high school; you represented the junior class." She pointed at me. "The other three are now gone...they blew up; the leader's gone as well. You are the only one who's still around."
Wow, I'm the only surviving one, I thought to myself. "What about Jake though?"
"We couldn't find him; I guess Relamist took him or left him, not sure." She ran her fingers through her long hair. "But he won't be coming around soon since the Machine of the World is destroyed."
"Who the heck is 'Relamist'?" I asked with a frown.
"Oh right, whoops." Aderyn giggled a bit with a shrug. "It'll be good if you're educated about him. He's like the head honcho of all the villains that are here. He's the one who orders them to get the Machine and the Key of the World, since that has the power of Inverse Omnipotence, which is what he wants. That's why all the villains want the Machine and Key of the World: to give it to Relamist. If not, they just want it for themselves, since who the hell doesn't want that much power?"
"What's 'Inverse Omnipotence'?"
"It's the power to make anything impossible. Since omnipotence is the power to make anything possible with its unlimited power, Inverse Omnipotence is the power to make anything impossible with its unlimited power. It's just like omnipotence, except inverse, which is how it got its name! Got it?"
I nodded my head. "That sounds like a really cool power."
"Yeah, it is!" She smiled hugely. "But of course it can be really dangerous if anyone attains it. No one has it from what we know of since it's destroyed." Her face grew grave. "But there is a slight chance of it being fixed and back up running again...especially if the key's still around..."
"Wait, you said something about a key," I cut in. "What's the key for?"
"Well, in order to open up the Machine of the World, one needs the Key of the World. There's no way to open up that machine unless the key is there as well. It's like opening a locked door--you need the correct key in order to do so. But Dr. Glassford made the trek to gain Inverse Omnipotence difficult by putting the key in the hands of Lanston authorities and burying the machine deep inside the earth under here." She stomped her foot on the ground like as if the machine was directly underneath her. "But of course now that the machine is destroyed, there's nothing we can do about it."
"Who's Dr. Glassford?" I asked, picking out the name in her long explanation.
"He's the one who made the supernatural a reality!" She threw her hands in the air again with a gleeful look. "He's known as the Father of Supernatural, since he created it. He's dead already since he created the supernatural in 1811, so you can see how long ago his time was--over two centuries old! And Xavier is like his great-great-great, how many other greats, grandson. So now Xavier has the responsibility to look over all the specials to see if they are in check."
"Specials?"
"It's the name for supernatural people." She clasped her hands behind her back. "There are many other names for them, but they're mainly called specials."
"Am I a special?"
"Yeah, you are!" She nodded at my missing half of my body. "That's why you are like this: because you have Glass Mimicry, which is part of hyalokinesis, as known as Glass Manipulation. Since you were caught in the explosion, you were heated up like glass, and then shattered to the ground due to the force...like glass. So you practically have the properties of glass."
I tilted my head a bit with furrowed eyebrows. "So I can't survive a fall?"
"Well, when you're back to normal, you should be able to control your mimicry so that you can turn into glass when you want to. But right now, you have no control over that due to the state you're in."
I nodded my head some more. "Are you...a special?"
"Yes, I am." She shot me a closed smile. "You don't remember the fight at the dance against Jake, do you?"
I slowly shook my head.
"Yeah, that's what I thought." She letted out a sigh. "I have many powers, very dangerous powers as well. But I'm coping with them."
"That's good..." I snapped my eyes at the ground, then back up at her. "But do you know when I'm gonna be normal again?"
Aderyn stared at the ground in hard thought. "You will soon..." She slowly looked up at me. "...you'll get your chance to avoid ending up like this. You'll see."
