Chapter 1
I kicked gently from beside the skateboard, and swerved around people as I roll. I breathed in the fresh, summertime air... Which would only last one more day.
It was the last day of summer. I was 17, going on 18, and was about to start my grade 12 life.
So far, my life has been great! I have a good part time job, my family is happy as ever, and... Less ghost-crazy then usual. And not to mention my two best friends, Sam and Tucker.
Who am I? I'm a halfa. Half human, Half ghost.
I'm Danny Phantom.
I skated around a bit until I finally reached the park. I skid to a stop and hopped off, grabbing my board. I'd gotten this skateboard from Sam 3 years ago... And I've always treasured and used it.
I put my hand on my forehead, to shade my eyes. Squinting against the sun as I see two figures in the distant, skating towards me.
The girl had short black hair, purple eyes with matching lipstick on. She wore a black crop top with a white skull logo, and ripped black tights. She was using roller skates, the ones I got her last year.
The boy was on his own skateboard. He was a darker skinned guy with short black hair, hidden by his usual red cap. He has green eyes, and wore a blue jersey and black shorts.
The two skid to a stop in front of me and smile. "Hey Danny!" The two greeted in sync. I smiled to my friends. "Hey Tuck, Sam!"
"Where have you been? We haven't seen you for a week." Sam asked, putting her hands on her hips. "Ah-Right... There was a huge ghost infestation that managed to escape the ghost zone... I spent the entire week chasing them down..." I said sheepishly as I rubbed my neck.
Sam folded her arms and looked away, sadly. "... Wish you'd had told us..." She muttered. I frowned. I hated seeing her sad. "... Guys, you know being a ghost means-"
"Taking care and protecting the town... Yadda Yadda.. We heard this before!" Sam snapped, making me jump a bit. "... Sam? You okay..?" I asked slowly, Tucker giving me a worried look.
"I'm just fine." She hissed, cooling down a bit. "In that case..." Tucker spoke up. "Let's go have that picnic we came here for!" He grinned. I smiled at Sam... But she refused to look at me.
"Sam..." Each time I see her sad... it makes my heart shatter. Or... Whatever's left of it. Most of it was broken by Sam herself, without her realizing it...
I guess I can't blame her. She's... Sam. I shook off my thoughts as I was dragged by Tucker to a large picnic table, covered with our favourite foods.
"Jackpot!" I grinned as I sat down next to Tucker, Sam sat across from us. I piled up some food on my plate and dug in.
"So... How's the past week been?" I asked the two. Sam cringed at the question, as Tucker nudged me. "What?" I asked, blankly staring at him.
"It was okay, I guess." Sam replied, poking a fork at her salad. "..." All went quiet... This bugged me. Something was up... And they weren't telling me.
"Guys!" I snapped, slapping my hands on the table and standing, glaring at them. The two stared at me like I grew another head or something.
"Danny, what's your problem?" Sam asked coldly. "You guys are! There's something up and you've suddenly shut up! You know that drives me nuts!" I exclaimed, getting a 'shut the hell up for Sam's sake' look from Tucker.
"Just calm down, Dude. Let's just... Talk like normal." He said slowly and gently pushed me back down to my seat. I gripped my black hair gently as sighed, looking at my friends. They looked worried.
"I'm sorry guys... I didn't mean to yell... I'm just a bit stressed. I just want to know what's up..." I muttered with a sigh. I popped a skittle into my mouth and chewed, as it got silent.
"So... How many ghosts exactly did you capture?" Tucker asked, trying to start conversation. Silence. "... I'm sorry, but WHY are we talking like newly met strangers?" He asked, starting to get annoyed himself.
"... I think it's cause Sam isn't making any comments." I gestured to the quiet goth eating a tofu corn dog.
"Okay.. What do we talk about that includes Sam besides... EVERYTHING?" Tuck replies with sarcasm. "Sam? Sam??" I snap in her face until she snaps back into reality from her daze. "Huh? What is it?"
I sighed and gazed at her. "..." I looked into her eyes for a bit. She gave me a weird look. "... Danny? Are you trying to-"
"Read you by your eyes again? Yes." I reply and smile with a goof. I get a small smile from her... But it soon fades. "Wow. She's acting more goth then usual." Tucker commented.
I continue looking at her... Then I get it. "...!" My eyes widen a bit as she looks worried. "... You and... You... Broke up? When? How?" I asked, surprising both my friends.
Sam's had a boyfriend for about a year now. He was a jock, and was on about every team. He was also, somehow, an A+ student. His name was Denik.
When I asked this, Sam snapped the stick of the tofu corn dog in half. She shot me a glare I never saw her aim at me before...
"Why do you care? You obviously didn't care enough to come help me when I needed you." She said coldly, and a silence grew. Her words sunk in... And I felt weak.
"S-Sam... You... You know it's not like that!" I plead, as she turns her back towards me with her arms crossed. "Danny-- I really needed you! And for once... You weren't there! Tucker spent 3 hours last night convincing me to come to this picnic! That's how much I was hurting!" She stood up, raising her voice.
"Sam..." I frowned softly as I saw tears well up in her eyes. "Sam... Please. I'm... I'm sorry." I whispered, reaching out to touch her shoulder. She grabbed my wrist and threw me to the ground. I groaned in pain as I rubbed my head.
"Sorry didn't come to me, sorry won't cut it!" Sam hollered, and ran off. I leapt up and stared at Tucker, who was just as shocked as I was.
"... Tucker?..." I ask, and he sighs. "Let's go to my house... I'll explain everything."
