Sharp Edges
Cutting yourself is kind of a ridiculous notion when you think about it.
Leaving permanent marks on your skin that you either have to work to hide or explain when you slip up and people inevitably do see them. All the preparation that goes into acquiring a decent blade, hiding it so no one takes it away from you or knows what you're doing, finding an acceptable space to do it, deciding where you're gonna cut, the cleanup afterwards, the whole process.
And all of this for a few moments of relief, release or pleasure depending on the reason you're doing it.
God, most days I feel like it's still worth it though, isn't it? Not encouraging anyone to be doing anything like that but if you already do it, let's be honest here, you have your reasons and, unless you get caught in the act and end up in an awkward, almost intervention-type situation, you're probably not stoping any time soon.
I learned pretty early on that the wrist is the hardest to hide. Especially if you work in a place that requires you to wear any kind of uniform because for some reason they almost always have short sleeves because the designer is an ass.
I used to cut my thighs because it was easy access when I got the craving and I never wear shorts anyways so it's not like anyone is gonna see it right?
When I started with the wrist again a few months ago, it was 100% with the goal of someone seeing it so maybe someone can help me because at this point I can't be bothered to do it for myself. But that's a whole different story that we'll get to later.
All of this to say that I started stretching my ear because it's a healthier and definitely more socially acceptable version of self mutilation. Instead of reaching for a blade, consider stretchers. It's been working for me so far.
And now that tangent is over. Thanks.
