Chapter 2: The Discovery
I hate English, it's confirmed I absolutely hate English. "Fucking test, why do you have to ask the one thing I didn't study on?" I whispered to myself. "Alright class pack up and place your test on my desk. I hope you have a good weekend." Our teacher, Mr. Harrison said, I got up and put my test on his desk and was about to walk out when I turned around to say goodbye to him, a couple of kids were throwing a football in class, when they threw it off course and it went towards Mr. Harrison. As I looked at the ball I suddenly knew that it was going to hit him, before the ball could hit Mr. Harrison I quickly caught it and dropped it, I looked at him and noticed he was smiling at me. I quickly smiled back and left still wondering how I could tell where the ball was going to hit.
"Dude something—" I started but was cut off by Jake "Weird just happened?" He asked while looking around like he was in a pen full of wild animals. "Yeah. How'd you know I was gonna say that?" I asked in complete shock. "Something weird happened to me to, during math I finished my homework early and started drawing like I always do, so I started drawing a butterfly just because I didn't feel like drawing something to sophisticated, so anyways as I was drawing it colors started to appear on it without me even touching my colored pencils. As soon as I finished, the paper seemed to ripple from the middle of the page to the edge, after the ripples stopped, the butterfly seemed to just come straight off the page, as if it had just been standing there the whole time, it flew up and started flying across the classroom until it stopped on the door handle as if waiting for someone to let it out, I asked if I could go to the bathroom and as I opened the door it flew up and landed on my hand, it just sat there for a while before it took off and flew down the hall." He said, as we walked to the cafeteria we met up with Cameron and his story was crazier than Jake's. He said that his class had a test and the teacher used an hourglass because he didn't like giving student's extra time. So, during the test he looked up and saw there was only about 3 minutes left for the test and he was only halfway done, he sat there staring at the sand wishing it would go back up and after a couple minutes the sand started flowing back up, after the sand was all back up into the top portion of the hourglass the sand stopped going higher and started flowing back down. At first he thought he was crazy, but later when a student asked him if he had noticed the extra time he started freaking out because he had made the sand move which then made it so that there was extra time, but he didn't know how he did it
"So you're saying you have some sort of time power?" Jake asked still not believing him, all Cameron could do was nod and stare off into space. "So Ian, what happened with you today?" Cameron asked after probably not being able to come up with some sort of idea as to why he did what he did. "I was in class and we had just turned our tests in when I started to leave but turned back to say goodbye to Mr. Harrison when I saw a couple guys throwing a football in class when the ball went off course and straight for Mr. Harrison, but the weird thing was, I knew where it was going to land, and caught it before it could hit him in the face." I said, and they looked at me with blank stares on their faces. "I know not as weird as yours but it's pretty weird if you ask me." I replied to which they nodded and we walked to our table outside and sat down. "Hey, Ian I want to test something out, one of us is going to throw something and you tell us where it's going to land. Ok?" Jake said as he and Cameron both grabbed their apples and got ready to launch them. "Alright, go whenever you're ready." I said anxious to test this out, soon there was an apple flying over my head and sure enough I could see the dotted line. "Ok, I can see the line and it's going to land," I said as I followed the line to its intended target. "right on top of Jacob Burns' head." And sure enough after a couple of seconds the apple landed on the boy's head with a dull thump.
The poor kid was so startled he fell over and in an attempt to stay upright, he knocked his tray on top of him, as soon as this happened everyone looked over and burst out laughing. "Dude, let's try not hitting people in the head next time. Ok Jake?" I said as I turned back to look at him. "Wait, how did you know it was me and not Cameron?" Jake asked and I realized that I didn't know how I knew, I just did. "I don't know It's just a feeling" I said as I looked around the yard everything was back to normal, there was no laughing or yelling anymore just everyone eating, and talking in their little groups. "Guys, what if these aren't just coincidences? What if we were giving these abilities for a reason? What if something really bad is going to happen and we need to use these to help someone?" I said as I looked around the yard one more time before looking back at my friends. They looked at me with blank stares, almost as if I was a complete stranger to them, but I knew they were thinking about what I said. "Alright, come on guys let's get back to class before lunch ends, that way we don't have to push through all the other kids." I said as I got up and threw away my tray I looked around once more, everything was perfectly calm, too calm, just like the calm before the storm.
"Hey, Ian you coming?" Jake asked bringing me back to reality, I looked at him and nodded, then began to walk inside. As soon as I walked inside the doors leading into the hallways, my body seemed to take over and shift itself to the right, turn and grab the fist that would have hit me if my body hadn't moved, as I grabbed the fist I remembered a lesson Mark taught me, if you dodged a punch, you could use the weight, and momentum of the attacker against them, I quickly put my foot out and swung myself behind the person and pushed them forward, I watched as whoever was going to hit me fell on their face, right after the person hitting the ground, you could hear a loud crack! As the kid's nose broke on the floor, soon after there was a circle of kid's surrounding me and the kid on the ground, security guards pushing their way through to the middle. Before I knew what was happening I was grabbed by the arms and being held still by two security guards while two more were helping the kid get up, as soon as they got him up I finally noticed who it was, it was Ashton Michaels, the rich kid. He looked like he was unconscious but when they walked past me he escaped and tried to punch me only for me to, break free and grab his arm and twist it behind his back and push him towards the guards that were previously escorting him away from the circle of people.
"Alright kid, come on you're going to the principal's office, right now!" Said one of the guards as they pushed me along the way to the principal's office, I couldn't help but ask myself how I did that, I didn't know he was there, I definitely didn't do that with skill, maybe I just lucked out. All too soon I arrived at the door to the principal's office, I had never been to the principal's office before, or the office in general, I was a straight A student and never got in trouble. "So, Ian what brings you here?" The Principal asked me as I sat down across from him. "I, uh broke a kid's nose. In self-defense after her tried to hit me of course, but I still did it, and I feel bad about it, even though he technically assaulted me, I still had no reason to break his nose." I said wondering if he would believe me or not, the way he looked at me I had a feeling that he didn't believe me for half a second. "So, somebody assaulted you, and you broke his nose in self-defense.?" He asked raising an eyebrow and looking at me quizzically. "Well not exactly, I shoved him down after he tried to punch me and then he broke his nose on the ground." I said while shifting nervously in my seat waiting for his answer. "Well Ian, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to suspend you for a couple days" He said in a tone that meant he clearly didn't care whether he had to suspend me or not. "It's okay, I understand." I said as I walked out of the office, I heard an ear splitting scream followed by a loud ROAR!! I turned around and saw a huge, and I don't mean big, I mean impossibly huge, lion barreling down the hall towards me, I stood there watching it for a couple more seconds before rushing back into the principal's office slamming the door shut and leaning back against it.
"Ian! What are you doing?" The principal asked, as I looked out the window towards the hall. I didn't see anything. "Sorry, there was a real life lion in the hall outside." I said as I sat down still leaning against the door. "A lion? That's absurd!" He yelled as I got up and grabbed the door handle and slowly opened it, I noticed a circle of people standing a few feet away from me. I walked over and slowly pushed my way to the center of the crowd of people, there was someone lying unconscious on the ground, no not someone, it was Jake! He was unconscious on the ground with his clothes ripped, in his hands were a s notebook, and a pencil, but on the paper was the faint outline of what looked like a lion sketched onto the paper.
