Chapter 4
Four figures crowded around Anika. One, waist length hair, as red as fire, another with even longer hair, as honey sweet as her personality. Another with bouncy brown hair and a cheery smile, and lastly, a quiet but intelligent girl with short blonde hair. Encouragingly they said, "Anika, get up. Live your life, you'll find a way." Anika replied dreamily, "Am I alive?" The red haired girl smiled. "That depends..."
Anika jolted awake. "Depends on what?" She panicked. She stood up and took in the surroundings. "I'm alive!" She squealed with relief. Droplets of tears ran down her face. No, not tears. Cool, fresh water. "Rain!" She whispered, and opened her mouth to the sky. Water ran down her dry, dusty throat, washing away her worries and sadness. She drank until she could drink no more. Then to her amazement, she discovered a basket made out of the oven reeds. She placed it upright and in excitement watched it fill with fresh water. She ran around, arms spread out wide and free, calling, "Wherever you are, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Afterwards, Anika got to work. She opened the backpack that was on her back and pulled out an empty drink bottle. She took off the lid and left it to be filled up in the rain. She pulled out her jumper and placed it on the ground for a rug to sleep on. She also pulled out a stale sandwich that she had forgotten all about of. Not noticing the staleness of the bread, Anika savored every mouth full, replenishing her hunger. She walked under the canopy of trees and spread out the jumper. She lay down on her backpack for a pillow. Something sharp dug into her arm, and she sat up in surprise. She fished around in her backpack and pulled out a pocket knife. "It definitely wasn't there before." She thought out loud in astonishment and glee. She tucked it away in her pocket and dropped off to sleep.
