Chapter 6
Anika stood at the mouth of the eerie black cave looming ahead. She racked her brain for a memory of having seen this cave before, but none came. Something, or someone was pulling her forwards, into the cave. Some invisible force was dragging her to certain doom, away from the familiar surroundings behind her.
Anika gulped. She stepped into the gloom, plunging into solid darkness. Anika reached into her backpack and pulled out her candle. She also pulled out a box of matches. With a quick stroke, Anika lit the candle, which formed a comforting circle of light around her. She brandished the candle in front of her and poised the spear in throwing position. Everything was so deathly quiet that her rasping breath sounded loud and out of place. She held her breath in fear, and when she had to breath again, it was hard to do so. As air slowly filled her throat again, she knew for certain that it would be the last time she ever did.
Anika fell to the ground, on all fours she crawled further into the cave. Her head felt light and the light from the candle seemed to fade. She tried desperately to breath, but she couldn't. Everything was black again. Anika collapsed into a crumpled heap. As she did so, two slit-like eyes, glowing brightly yellow appeared above her.
Her scream echoed.
