"Promise you'll be here when I get back?"
"Promise."
They hooked their pinkie fingers in union.
Greg's flight was that same day, he'd rushed to the airport, and the moment he was gone, Calvin turned off all the lights, locked all the doors and windows and laid down on the couch. He pulled his knees into his chest, letting his tears escape.
He knew Greg wasn't abandoning him.
He knew Greg needed to be there for his mother.
But it just made Calvin miss his mum all the more.
It made Calvin miss Greg, who had been the only one to show him love for a long time.
"I lied" Calvin whispered to himself. "I'm not okay, I'm was never okay."
Part of him wanted to rush to the airport and follow Greg, but he knew that would be selfish, he'd had Greg to himself for nearly two years. Calvin had never been good at sharing.
He'd never had anything someone else wanted until now.
He knew Greg was his.
But he still worried. He worried someone would steal him away. Or that Greg would get bored.
He muffled his sobs into a pillow.
He knew Greg would've told the downstairs neighbour, Peter, to keep an eye on him.
Peter knew what Calvin had been through, he had tried to help at first. He was never as patient as Greg though.
Greg was special.
No on could love Calvin the way Greg did.
