Chapter Fourty: Enemies

He was definitely getting pissed he couldn't hit me by now. I'm still not sure what his power is exactly. Is he compressing the air and shooting it out ward, like some kind of air cannon? Or is he using some other ability? I wish I knew, taking him down might be a lot easier if I could just figure it out.

"You should quite struggling, Kid. You're only prolonging the inevitable. Your going to die anyway so why not stop jumping around in futility," he said.

"You're awfully cocky for someone who can't seem to aim very well," I mumbled. Provoking him will do one of two things, make him angry enough to get sloppy or he'll try to prove me wrong and start aiming better. I'm obviously hoping for the first scenario, but the second one could leave me openings too. If he takes his time to aim properly then I might be able to use that, but scenario one would be less painful for me.

It turned out scenario one was the ultimate outcome and using an opening between his attacks I felt my sword cut into his arm. As we faced each other again his left arm hung limp at his side. He looked even angrier and held his good arm out, sword towards me again. A wounded animal trapped in a corner, that's what the look on his face reminded me of.

Apologizing I made my next move and sliced my sword across his chest. Shock took over his expression as he hit the ground. I wiped the blood from my face and flung it off my sword as well. I can't feel bad about taking his life right now, I have to keep moving.

It didn't seem like there were too many people out this way so I headed back towards the Guild. They really weren't going after the civilians so the main fighting had to be at the guild.

When I got there I froze. There was so much blood everywhere and there were so many people fighting. With them all covered in blood it was hard to tell who was winning. On that note it was a little hard to tell who was who.

"That's enough of this! You know why we're here so just hand over the sword we came for and we'll be on our merry way," A man called out, from on top of one of the buildings. Both sides stopped and looked up at him. As my gaze followed theirs up, I saw it. He had Lana in his grasp and held a knife to her throat.

"Let her go she isn't a part of this fight! We don't know what sword you are talking about. It isn't here," a guy called out, I think he's one of the other healers here, or was he a plant user? I can't really remember.

"Oh, but my spys told me otherwise. Granted one decided to betray me, but the other one gave me a rather interesting name. A name that piqued my interest quite a bit. You see he's a so called normal boy, T-" He was cut off by Dustin charging at him.

Something weird happened. I know Dustin was using his full powers yet the guy caught his fist and his power vanished as if he stopped using it at the last second. Could this guy - could he have the ability to stop other people's powers?

"My what a defiant traitor," he said and kicked Dustin in the stomach hard. As Dustin hit the ground he told his men to restrain him. "Well, perhaps this will draw the man I'm looking for out. I really want to see the look on his face when he sees his girlfriend in such a state," the man said and my breath caught. He doesn't mean he had Lilliana does he? Lana disappeared (teleported?) and Lilliana appeared in her place. She was beaten up pretty badly, but she was still alive.

May anger was starting to boil over and I tightened my grip on my sword. I held myself from attacking when I saw all my friends, Captain, and Master all move through the crowd to the front.

"Tyrian! We'll take care of these lackeys and get Lilliana, You make that bastard pay," Max called out. How do they even know I made it here? I held back my anger, I had to trust in them to handle the others. I'm probably the only one who can fight that bastard. Since powers don't seem to work on him.

"Understood," I mumbled to myself and made my way around the building. I hid when I spotted someone guarding the back of the building. He had Lana, so I assume he's the teleporter.

I could hear that guy on the roof still talking, but couldn't hear what he was saying. The fighting at the front of the building started up again. If I'm going to get to their boss, I'm going to have to take out that teleporter first, but how do I catch him off guard so he won't teleport away from me?

"Well lookie here, you're awfully sneaky," a man whispered from behind me and I froze for a second. "Awe, did I scare you? That's okay that makes it more fun for me to kill you," he said. This man's blood lust was heavy and his powers were dark and erie. How did I not even notice his approach? That'd be pretty impressive if he was able to mask all that blood lust and dark energy. So this is a dark guild huh?

I elbowed him hard in the stomach and jumped away from him, holding my sword at the ready. Unfortunately, that put me in sight of the teleporter and Lana. Lana was screaming at me, but they had her mouth taped so I couldn't hear what she was saying. The teleporter kicked her to shut her up and my anger boiled again.

Taking them both on would be pointless, I see only one option left. If I'm going to get Lana out of this and get close to their boss, then there is only one way at this point. I sheathed my sword and put my hands up in surrender.

"I'm the one your leader wants, I'm Tyrian. Let her go and I'll go with you," I said.

"After all of this you're giving up? How cowardly you are," the man who snuck up on me said and kicked me hard in the stomach. I hit the ground hard. "Well, I suppose you are only a normal boy, what hope did you have anyways," he added as he dug his heal into my side.

"I can't believe this kid is what we went through all this trouble for. Lets get him to the Boss. Oh and he can keep his sword, I'm sure the Boss will want to fight him," The teleporter said and after kicking me again the other guy backed away. He forced me to my feet and they both teleported me to the roof.

"Hey, Boss, the idiot you were looking for is this useless piece of trash right?" the evil man said and shoved me down at the Boss's feet. He really just insulted me three times just now. I swear these guys are real pieces of work.

"N - No, Tyrian," Lilliana mumbled. I looked up at her and seeing he worried face had me slowly stand up. I will protect her.

"Well, this was an effective way to draw you out. You're so simple minded, like a dumb little kid. She's not useful to me anymore, maybe I'll kill her now," he mumbled. I shot him a glare and pulled my sword.

"You kill her and you will never find the sword you were looking for," I said and aimed my own sword at myself. This is a long shot, but without me finding the sword will be difficult, since no one else knows where it is.

"Well aren't you an intriguing boy. Fine I'll let her go," the man said and shoved her off the roof. I'm sure the others will catch her somehow. I can't worry about her right this second. I put my sword away and met the man's gaze head on. Up this close I swear I recognize his face somehow. "Hmm, Those eyes actually seem familiar to me, they hold so much hatred in them," he mumbled. Have we met somewhere before? I really do think he looks familiar.

I grabbed my head and swore. Of all times, why now? He stepped towards me and leaned in close. Is the fact my head is hurting mean I did meet him before?

"You're memories must be blocked by some kind of magic spell. I assume this has happened before. I could nullify the spell blocking them for you. I let the girl go and I'm offering to help you, that should cover the payment for the sword," He said and smiled at me. "But if you're who I think you are, then this is quite a convenient meeting," he said. I clenched my teeth and glared at him.

"Who exactly do you think I am?" I gritted out and drew my sword. "Who exactly are you?" I added.

"Oh, my, such an intense look. I knew letting you live was a good choice. I remember you now, you have the same look as your father, before I killed him and your mother," he said and smiled. An evil smile that I kind of remember seeing before. I winced at the pain in my head again. Damn.

He reached up to touch me and I swatted his hand away. I don't know what he's planning, but if my memories are blocked then there had to be a reason for it.

"I don't need my memories to kill you," I said and stood my ground, sword at the ready. He sighed and pulled his own sword out.

Neither of us moved for what felt like a long time. Sizing each other up I suppose. He was the first to make a move and I blocked his sword. We went back and forth, neither giving ground. He smiled again like he was actually having fun, but his smile still looked totally evil to me. Was he just toying with me? Yeah, he probably is, I wouldn't put it past this creep.

"Why do you even want the sword, you nullify magic right? So it's not like you can use it yourself, so why bother? Also, I get why you bastards killed Shay, but why did you kill my parents?" I asked as our swords met. I needed answers from this man. We backed away from each other.

"It doesn't really matter anymore what I want the sword for, you won't live through this to have to worry about it. As for your parents well, that's a tricky question. Seeing how your memories are blocked, even if I explained it I doubt you'll believe me or understand if I did. Just know everyone who has died up to this point has been because of you," he said and gave me that sickening smile again. He's refusing to answer any of my questions and what did he mean by "because of me"?

I blocked his sword with my own and he smiled again. I got the feeling something was coming from behind. It wasn't magic, so what was it? A weapon? I dodged out of the way as a sword came slicing at me. That creepy man from before smiled and straightened his stance. I sensed the sword, but I didn't sense him at all. How can he mask his presence so thoroughly?

"Not half bad, Kid. I wonder, how'd you manage to dodge that?" the man asked. They both came at me at once and I dodged again. Of course they didn't get flustered or run into each other like my friends did. They're professionals at fighting. This wasn't going to be easy.

Out of nowhere, I was kicked in the side hard, from behind. I slid to nearly the edge of the roof before I was able to stop myself. It was the teleporter, I let my guard down there. Damn, that really hurt.

"Make this easier on yourself, Boy. Just tell me where the sword is and I might just let you live again. Or I can kill you and search your memories later," The boss guy said. If he really had someone with the ability to search my memories after I'm dead then why did he stop me before? Is he bluffing? Or did he just call my bluff earlier?

"I'm not going to tell you anything and I'm not going to let you kill me either," I said and glared at him as I took my fighting stance again. He called me a foolish boy and motioned for his men to attack me. I dodged their attacks, kicked one of them and hit the other with the hilt of my sword.

They went over the edge. Of course a fall from here won't kill anyone, but it probably will result in a broken bone or two. Of course the teleporter didn't end up hitting the ground, but he didn't help the other guy out either.

"Smart move, Kid, if we were on a highrise he very well might've died with that stunt," The boss guy said.

"Kane, Rich, I think I'll kill him with my own hands. Why don't the two of you go join the others down below," he said just as the other guy made it back onto the roof. Did he climb back up the side if the building? That was pretty fast. "Oh, and if you see that girl, leave her alive so she can watch this," he added to his men.

"Understood, Sir," they both said and disappeared again. That was dumb to send them away. Something bothers me though, with a weak power like nullification why is he the leader of this Dark Guild? Is he hiding something else? I took my stance once again and kept my eyes open for any tricks he might pull.
