Chapter Five - The First Selfie
The sound of your alarm going off at five o'clock in the morning caused you to blindly smack your hand around in the nightstand next to you in search of your phone. Your fingers made contact with the screen, allowing you to turn it off momentarily with the snooze button. Darcy hissed and pulled her pillow over her head, the noise having woken her up slightly. Charlotte was already up and taking a shower from what you could hear in the bathroom right next to your bed. That was fine by you. You could do with a little more sleep anyway.
As the snooze on your phone wore off, it sounded fifteen minutes later. You swiftly shut it off so you wouldn't disturb Darcy again. Charlotte was no longer in the bathroom, but rather sitting on her bed with her sketch pad and various colored charcoal pencils spread out for her to use at a moment's notice. You smiled and lazily rolled out of bed and on to your feet. Grabbing your bag of toiletries, shower supplies, and the clothes you had chosen to wear for the day, you shuffled silently to the bathroom so you could shower.
After a nice relaxing and hot shower, you dressed yourself and did your usual morning routine quickly so Darcy could have her time in the bathroom. You could always do your makeup while sitting on your bed with a small compact mirror after all. When you returned into the main room, Darcy was just being roused from her slumber. Charlotte was already sketching what she could see with daylight beginning to break. You sighed and sat on your bed to put on a thin layer makeup just to even out your skin tone.
All three of you were up and almost ready to go promptly at six o'clock when a knock sounded at the door. Darcy opened the door since she had just come out of the bathroom from her shower, now fully dressed of course. Ludwig was standing outside.
"Everyone is awake I presume?"
"Yeah. The three of us are awake at least. Not sure about Valerie though. That girl sleeps like a rock."
"Let's see if she can sleep through my brother's wake up antics since I sent him to the room she's in to make sure everyone is awake."
"Listen, if he gets punched in the throat, it's his own fault. She's fairly jumpy if someone manages to wake her."
"I couldn't agree more. I'll leave you three be. Remember, breakfast is at six-thirty."
"Mhm..."
Darcy closed the door in the burly German's face before shaking some of the moisture from her hair with a towel. You hummed and continued to get ready. Twenty minutes later and you found yourself and your two roommates heading down the breakfast room. Alfred and a few of the other girls were there, but Samantha, Valerie, Gilbert, and Ludwig were still absent. The four of them soon made their appearance, Gilbert rubbing at the underside of his jaw.
"Val punched you, didn't she?" Darcy asked with a smug smirk on her face.
"What gave it away...?" Gilbert grumbled as he sat down.
"Oh, nothing. Nothing at all."
"Whatever..."
He began grumbling in to himself in German as Ludwig announced everyone could help themselves to breakfast at the various breakfast bars after bringing Gilbert a cup of coffee. You and your friends were more than happy to dig in, all feeling especially hungry that morning. You had so many options to choose from, causing it to be overwhelming. After a hearty breakfast, Ludwig made clear what the itinerary for the day would be.
"Today will be a museum day. To start, we'll be driving into Berlin to go to Museum Island. We'll be there until twelve in the afternoon, and then you'll have free time for an hour and a half to buy lunch from wherever you please. You can even go shopping if you'd like. Afterwards, we'll head to the Berlin Dungeon to have an actor led tour of Berlin's dark history. We'll have dinner at four-thirty, and from there we will venture to Madame Tussauds Berlin Wax Museum until it closes at seven. Then you will have free time again to do as you please for two hours. We'll return here to the hotel around ten."
Everyone nodded in acknowledgment and boarded the bus with the items they needed for the day. The ride to Museum Island was quiet. Gilbert gave the rundown of the museum's once everyone was off the bus at the first museum.
"Listen up, losers!" he started. "We'll be hitting the five main museums here on Museum Island. There's like thirty of them in total, but the main ones are the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Pergamon Museum, the Bode Museum, and the Alte Nationalgalerie. We'll have a tour guide from the company that owns the Museums, and since museums aren't my style, I'll be quiet most of the time."
Once again everyone made sure show that they understood what was going to happen. And with that, you all ascended into the Altes Museum and began what would be a very long day, but it seemed to go very fast. Lunch came and went, as did the Berlin Dungeon and dinner. Now your group was happily wandering around Madame Tussuads without a care in the world. This is where you decided to get a selfie with Gilbert. You got the idea when you stumbled upon a display with a male and a female dressed in armor with swords and a throne behind them, as well as banners with lions and golden lion statues. Gilbert seemed very excited to be near the fantastic display of craftsmanship.
"Hey, Gil?" you inquired as you tapped on his shoulder.
"Ja?"
"Can I take a selfie with you at the figure display? It's the focus I came up with for the trip. I want to try to get a selfie with all of the tour guides before I leave each country."
"Now that's an awesome focus! Hell yeah we can take a selfie! Come on!"
He dragged you into the display while the rest of your group went to the next set of wax figures with Ludwig. Alfred stayed behind with you and Gilbert to help with the pictures. The first selfie you too was with the two men together at the male statue, then the next was with the female one. Gilbert said he had a cool idea for a third picture, but it required Alfred to take it with your phone. You complied and handed Alfred your phone. Gilbert sat on the throne and put on the fake crown before pulling you into his lap. You blushed madly as he grinned.
"Take the picture, brohas!"
"You've got it! Smile you guys!"
You smiled, still certain that your cheeks were burning bright red. Gilbert certainly knew how to get you worked up. The German let out an odd little laugh and pecked your cheek.
"Don't be so shy, frauline. It was just a picture."
"Y-Yeah. You're right. Come on. Let's just catch up with the rest of the group. I'm sure Ludwig is wondering where we are."
The males nodded and followed you back to the rest of the group. Everyone made it through the rest of the displays and was more than happy to treat themselves to a little shopping until they had to return to the hotel. Your friends decided to split off from you to go to some of the fancier stores. You know you didn't really want to go into any of them at the moment because you absolutely were positive that you would end up buying half the store. So, you decided to just walk around with Ludwig, Gilbert, and Alfred for the time being.
"So, how'd you like the museums?" Alfred asked, his hands clasped behind his back.
"They were really cool! And that's coming from someone who isn't really into some of the stuff we looked at."
"I'm glad you like it," Ludwig said. "You should come back to Germany some other time for a longer stay. Maybe we could do the three day pass for Museum Island if you'd keep in touch with my brother und I."
"You know what? That actually sounds like a lot of fun! I'd be happy to do that with you two!"
"Hey! What about me?" Alfred whined.
You giggled. "I'd like to keep in contact with you too, you dork. Maybe we can hang back in the States?"
"Yeah! I'd like that!"
You continued to make idle chit chat with the boys as you walked along the streets of Berlin, making sure to get updates as to what stores your friends went to and where they would head next, just so you'd be able to find them. By the time you all reunited, your friends had at least six bags each.
"How much did you guys spend?!"
"We'd rather not say," Ami said with her head hung.
"Alright. Let's head back to the hotel, okay? I don't think you want to carry those around the rest of the night."
"Right on!" they cheered as you all made your ways back to the bus and drove to the hotel.
