Chapter 11

A/N update: So a very kind user, fourarmedmonkey, informed me that i made a mistake while writing. I was saying north pole when they were indeed in the south pole so i went ahead and fixed that. Thank you very much fourarmedmonkey!

When Ylva came to she was in her room, she was laying  in her bed confused.

"Shouldn't the ship be rocking? Zuko wouldn't stop in the middle of the south pole for nothing." She thought to herself pondering, then it all flooded back to her. Arriving at the village, the Avatar giving himself up, the Avatar escaping, and most importantly the encounter with the two people who had tried to claim her as their sister.

Ylva shot out of bed and onto the deck, when she arrived she saw some of the guards being thawed out by some of their fellow guards, and a few more guards melting the ship out of snow. She quickly water-bent the rest of the ice off the half thawed guards before she did the same the remaining snow covering the ship. She then turned to Zuko.

"What happened after I got knocked out?" She asked.

"The Avatar and his friends escaped, when we tried to stop them the Avatar brought the wall of snow down next to the ship, causing this huge mess." Zuko told her with a scowl. "We've been sitting here for a couple of hours."

"Well now that we're no longer buried lets get moving the ship will need repairs." Ylva told him before walking back towards her room mumbling something. Zuko  watched her walk back toward her room with a frown. Why is she acting so strangely?  He thought to himself. He shook his thoughts away and started ordering his crew to get ready to leave.

Ylva was in her room with the door locked, she was pacing furiously, while replaying the scene that happened before she was knocked out again in her mind. She scowled when she was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"What is it?" She said as calmly as possible.

"May I come in?" A voice on the other side of the door asked. Ylva sighed and unlocked her door allowing Uncle Iroh to walk in. He closed the door behind him.

"You seem stressed Ylva." He said once he was fully in the room. "Is it because of the run in with your blood?" Ylva gave a small rueful.

"Nothing gets past you uncle. Yes I am stressed because of those two appearing out of nowhere," she said picking at her nails. She suddenly scowled, "I can't believed they tried to claim me as their sibling when they clearly disowned me right before my transfer. They can't call me their sister and then abandon me in my time of need." She said angrily, referring to the night she was captured.

Iroh was now sitting on Ylva's bed while she paced and just sat there and listening to the young girl rant. After a couple of minutes she finally quieted and seemed deep in thought. Iron spoke.

"Why did they disown you?" He asked. Ylva faltered for a second. If Iroh saw the flash of horror cross her features in that split second he did not show. She stopped pacing and looked at him.

"The day I was captured by those fire nation ships, Me and my siblings found out about my power." She told him.

  "Your shifting power?"

"Yes." She lied. Even though she trusted her Uncle she was wary of the ship crew, she didn't know who was listening in on the conversation, and had vowed to herself that day that she would never let anyone else know about her fire bending. If the Firelord, Azula, or even Zuko knew, her life would not be so smooth as it is now even if she was in banishment.

Uncle Iroh looked at her for a couple of seconds to see if she would say anything more on the topic, but when she remained silent he smiled and stood up.

"Well, why don't we forget about this for now and and go annoy Zuko?" He asked in a light tone. Ylva smiled at him,

"Most annoying person gets a good laugh and a gift from the least." She replied. Iron laughed.

  "Deal!"

Ylva was in her room reading when she heard a knock on her door.

  "Come in!"

"We've arrived Princess Ylva" Her personal help said once she opened the door.

"Thank you, Eileen. I'll be out in a couple of minutes, and how many times do have to tell you? I'm no longer a princess. Please just call me Ylva."

"Sorry Miss Ylva." She said as she left. Ylva sighed at being called 'miss' and and closed her book. She got up and put some decent clothes on before leaving to look for her brother.

When she got off the ship, she found Zuko yelling at Iroh quietly.

"Every fire-bender in the world will be looking for him and I don't want anyone getting in the way." He was saying, Ylva was rolling her eyes, now standing a little behind Iroh, when they heard a voice.

"Getting in the way of what? Prince Zuko"

Iroh, Zuko, and Ylva whipped towards the sound, to see an middle aged man walking towards them, his hair light brown hair also pulled into a ponytail. Zuko crossed his arms and addressed the newcomer.

"Captain Zhao." Ylva shifted a bit and glared at Zhao, never having trusted the man.

"Its Commander now." Zhao replies, looking pleased, he then turns to Iroh. "General Iroh," He says bowing a little to the man, "Great hero of our nation." Iroh bows back to the younger man while saying,

"Retired General, now remember." Zhao smiled stiffly at that.

"Of course," he says before turning to Ylva, "ah and princess Ylva, the Water princess." He says smirking. Ylva glared at him.

"Just Ylva thank you." She replied as stiff as a person could get.

"Oh forgive me," His smirk grew and he turned to Zuko again, "The firelord's brother, son, and adopted daughter, are welcome guests anytime. What brings you to my Harbor?" he asks politely. Zuko looks to Iroh.

"Our ship is being repaired." Iroh said, gesturing to their damaged ship. Zhao's eyes widened a bit.

"Thats quite a bit of damage." Zhao said looking a bit surprised. Zuko turned around.

"Yes. You wouldn't believe what happened!" he said trying to come up with a lie. "Uncle tell commander Zhao what happened." Iroh startled.

"Yes, I will do that. It was incredible!" he started, he then stopped unsure of how to continue. Ylva mentally face palmed and smiled stepping in between the two.

"We were sailing out of the South pole, when we got caught up in a very strong current. We hit a lot of icebergs and rocks." She lied, easily. Zhao raised an eyebrow.

"Aren't you a water-bender? couldn't you have done something?" he told her, Ylva glared.

" Like I said it was a strong current, plus I was just recovering from a terrible cold and was still feeling a bit under the weather. I was in no condition to help us." Zhao looked at her for a long moment, then smiled.

"Well I'm glad you're feeling better then, and I would love to hear more of the exciting details! Care to join me for a drink?" He asked leaning so he was in Zuko's face. Ylva wanted to punch him. Zuko turned away saying,

"Sorry but we have to go." Iroh however stopped him.

"Prince Zuko, show commander Zhao your respect." He then turned to Zhao. "We would be honored to join you. Do you have any Ginseng Tea? Its my favorite." He said walking towards Zhao's camp with Zhao following. Zuko let out a grunt of frustration while Ylva scowled.

When they got to Zhao's tent he offered them a seat, and some tea. Zuko and Uncle Iroh both sat down but Ylva stayed standing up and moved to the corner. Iroh took the tea happily.

"So your ship got caught up in a strong current in the south pole huh? How devastating. I presume you in search of the Avatar, then?" Zhao asked looking at Zuko almost hungrily.

"Of course."  Snapped Zuko. Zhao smirked.

"Any luck at all?". Zuko tensed, before carefully saying.

   "No."

"Did you really expect too? The avatars been missing for 100 years, do you honestly think he would still be alive?" Zhao replied smirking at Zuko while Ylva stood in the corner of the tent scowling. She grabbed her little ball full of rice out of her shoe and began throwing and catching it, tuning out the conversation as they began talking about the Avatar and the Fire Nation's history and plans. That is, until Zhao brought up their ship. Ylva stopped what she was doing and looked at him.

"So from what you guys have told me so far, you hit a strong current in the south pole, and got smashed into icebergs and rocks while your only water-bender was recovering from sickness leaving her useless? Is that right." Zhao asked looking at Zuko and Ylva with a raised eyebrow. Zuko and Ylva nodded mutely with sour looks. Uncle Iroh having finished his tea started looking around the tent.

"May I ask what sickness you were recovering from?" Zhao questions looking in the direction of Ylva.

"Fever, we were in the south pole for a good 5 weeks before this misfortune happened upon us. Just enough time for me to get sick and heal myself slowly." Ylva lied easily.

"Ah, yes that does sound like it could be very draining on your bending." Zhao said a bit disinterested. He then proceeded to tell Zuko that if he did actually have any knowledge on where the Avatar was that he should share. At that moment Uncle Iroh knocked over a display of weapons, in his search of the tent.

"Ah, Sorry! My fault entirely!" Iroh said with a sheepish smile. Zuko rolled is his eyes and told Zhao evenly.

"Haven't found any sign of him. Its like you said, he probably died a long time ago."

"That's a pity."

"Yes, indeed and now if you'll excuse us, I believe our ship is repaired and we really should be going. Thank you for hospitality, and have a good day!" Ylva said stepping closer to the exit, ending her statement with a clearly forced smile. She, Zuko, and Uncle Iroh began to exit the tent, but were stopped by the guards. Another guard soon came in and told Zhao that they talked to the crew and basically called out their bluff.

Things unfortunately snowballed from there and suddenly Ylva found herself standing outside waiting for the sun to go down, with Zuko and Uncle Iroh waiting around for an Agni Kai with Commander Zhao, and she was fuming.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU CHALLENGED AND ACCEPTED ANOTHER STUPID AGNI KAI! DON'T YOU REMEMBER LAST TIME YOU WERE IN AN AGNI KAI! I BARELY HEALED YOU, WITHOUT ME YOUR ENTIRE LEFT SIDE WOULD BE BURNED! I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I'LL BE ABLE TO HEAL YOU THIS TIME AROUND! HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID!" The yelling continued for a solid five minutes in ,which both Zuko and Uncle Iroh were unable to calm the mad teenage girl and ended up tuning her out, until it was sunset and time for the actual Agni Kai to begin.
