Debt

"That Sherry girl is really somethin'." Says Jack, sitting by Marie's side while Marie chews on an apple he brought.

"Sherry?" Marie asks while still chewing the apple. "Oh, her. I know she predicted that you're going to be suspended, but she's not really something as I would say."

"Before I get sent off, sir Michael told me Sherry's words before she completely passed out, although it was that gal's borderline. He said, 'tell him to see his sister'."

Marie just stares at Jack with innocent eyes, waiting for him to say more.

"That girl... she not only made that teacher a paramedic, but she had also done her part of the bargain... It's time I should do mine." Jack hangs his head low, staring at the ground with tears welling up in his eyes. He feels like there's a huge boulder weighted on his shoulders, pushing him further down. Until he's satisfied with paying what he owes Sherry, his burden on his shoulders won't disappear.

"She... visits me more frequently than you do, bringing me food, games, and the like. Just a companion... I didn't expect her to be paying my hospital fees in those visits..." Marie also hangs her head low as she realized what Sherry has done for her the whole time she was hospitalized.

Little did she know that Sherry pities her because she's like herself, chasing a murderer who murdered her parents and then trying to kill them as soon as she found them.

Sherry, guilt-ridden, does everything she can to make up for the wounds she caused and tried to heal them instead of burying them even further.

"I can't thank her enough." Jack declares, his voice is cracking, his breathing's unstable, and tears flow down from his eyes like waterfalls. He sniffs and hics from time to time, deeply thankful of what Sherry has done for him and his sister, and he only realized this after he attacked her because of his arrogance and his different mindset. The now-healed broken arm of his (which Sherry also paid for in advance) is not enough to make up for the mistake he had done for a person that important.

"She told me to tell you... You should stop bullying other people from now on."

"I did..." Jack murmurs under his breath. "Before we got out of the school gates, an enraged witness came rushing to us head-on, attacking me directly, asking me what I have done to Sherry. Before the others rush to him for disrespecting me, I stopped them, told them to leave him alone. That girl told me so. To leave that witness alone... I don't know what relationship those two have, but there's no doubt they care for each other very much."

"That witness..." Marie pauses for a moment as she thinks twice if her guess who it is being right or wrong. "Is it Simon?"

"Simon?" Jack wonders, trying to remember a name. "If Simon is seated at the farthest back next to the window, then it's him."

"That's weird..." Marie puts her finger on her chin, thinking deeply.

"Simon and Sherry always bicker. Why, of all times, do they show their true colors? This is getting interesting." She thinks.

"It's decided!" Jack suddenly slams the table in accordance to his sudden declaration. "I'm going to repay her for as long as you live!"

"As long as I live?! How about you?!" Marie shouts in shock.

"She's paying for your existence. If you cease to exist, then most likely, she's going to stop paying, and everything goes down!"

"Don't be stupid, just repay her for eternity!" Marie protests, as she owes Sherry the most, since her life is in question.

"That's against my moral code!" Jack retorts with an unanswerable sentence that merely left Marie speechless.

Jack, with very high spirits, walked out of Marie's room after bidding goodbye. The first time in 4 years, Jack brightly smiles, as bright as the ceiling lights of the hospital, as bright as his emotions, as bright as the future that waits for him...

Today, Jack swore loyalty to Sherry.
