Starry Sky
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
I shouted as loud as I could, my throat barely even reaching its limit. Crows flying about in fear as they heard my blood-curdling scream.
My heart started to beat faster than I could ever follow. My body shivers not because of the cold, but because of the fear that I have. The fear that made me sweat cold as I perspire, the fear that made my voice reach the sky undamaged. The fear that made my body move on its own as I cling onto a large tree nearby, still trembling, and my heart still pumps fast and loud. Even without moving closer to hear or feel my heart, it can be heard... Maybe that person who scared me can too.
"Huh? That brat?"
"What do you mean 'that brat'?! I have a name, you know!!!" I hissed at him, still clinging tightly to the bark of the tree.
"You scream pretty loud by the way. You probably made me deaf." He says as he casually scratches his ear. "Ah, don't tell me, you're scared?" He asks with a devilish smirk, hiding behind an evil motivation.
"Anyone would be scared when they see your creepy face in a hoodie and hearing your creepy coarse low-pitched voice, hoodie idiot!!" I continue to hiss at him from a distance while holding tightly to a tree. Seems pathetic, isn't it? "Why would you be awake at this hour anyway?"
"Oh. A smoke." He quickly and casually answers.
"Then, hurry up and get it over quickly!"
"I'm joking. Joking, ok?." He dismisses it with a slight shake of his left hand. "I came here to look at the sky. The suspicious one is you, though. What the hell are you doing here?"
"Uh..." I meekly look around to look for an excuse. "T-to smoke?"
"Oh, you smoke? That's not good for the environment, you know." He kicks some stray leaves out of the way and made room for him to sit down on. "And also for your health." He commented, looking at me with his usual smirk.
I click my tongue in annoyance, still looking at him from a distance. It's not because I'm still scared that I'm clinging onto this tree, it's because I simply don't want to go to his side.
"Hey, come on, why don't you sit beside me, like you always do." He gently pats the spot beside him, signaling me to sit down on that spot. "I won't do anything to you. I won't even comment about your bad breath from smoking."
This guy is really irritating...
Even so, I slowly walk away from my hiding place and cautiously sat down beside him, a foot apart.
"You see that, brat?" He asks as he points at the Orion star. "Now, that... That is beautiful."
He looks at the sky like he looks at a loved one. Full of love and adornment. He doesn't desperately reach for it, and looks as if he's contented with how the situation is right now. He may be millions of light years away from the stars and the sky he loved so much, but he still likes the view he has now. Not striving for more.
As he looks at the sky with great love and adornment, I look at him with great curiosity. Why is he passionate about the night sky? Why does he want to show it to me? Why did he sit down near the place where I was? These thoughts spiral in my mind, overwhelming the thoughts I had with the organization's relation to my target.
"Evangeline." He suddenly blurts out, making me jerk up, quickly turning my gaze away from him. "I want to someday see Evangeline..."
His gaze focuses on one star, and one star only, shining brilliantly, brighter than Orion. A star that caught our attention, a star that is somehow relaxing to look at despite the tall trees covering most of our views.
"If you want to be with Evangeline, then hurry up and go die quickly." I commented straightforwardly. I know I'm insensitive and being inconsiderate right now, but I never really had the chance to talk to him properly so he should've expected me to comment like this anyway.
"I can't. Not yet. It's not my time."
These three sentences he just said caught my attention. Even though he boldly said those words out loud, he was smiling warmly, as if he is willing to die after he finished doing something. He wanted to finish his business here first before going up to see Evangeline.
"Thanks for hearing me out, brat." He stands up, ready to go back to his tent. "Too bad you can't partner up with someone as cool as me."
"What the hell are you talking about, you idiot? Mike is 10x cooler than you!"
He didn't look back, his back is still the same view I see even as he gave me a small wave of goodbye.
As he parts from me, I can only slightly smile from the distance...
