a newer and more well written version is available on my profile!! it's called "a friendly trip 2".

That picture is so cute lmao
Alright let's start the story, feel free to review if u like it ;D I do not own any of the pictures or characters in this story. The characters belongs to Tolkien and the pictures belongs to the Internet. XD

Aragorn looked up in the tree Legolas had disappeared into and slowly shook his head, grinning from ear to ear. He couldn't see much as the branches casted shadows in the sunset, covering the elf from sight.

"Legolas get down please." It wasn't a plea, it was a sarcastic command.
"If you don't I'll have to leave you here, and that would be such a shame."

He heard the elf's beautiful laugh echo between the trees before the said elf smoothly jumped down. Brego jumped slightly in surprise and the man petted his neck soothingly, whispering soft words in elvish. Legolas also petted his neck, chuckling.
"I'm sorry Brego..."

The horse kissed his cheek, his own way of showing him it was alright. Legolas laughed and gripped his bridle, lowering his head enough to give it a kiss.

Aragorn chuckled and pushed his bag higher up on his shoulder, preparing to continue riding.
"Come on now elf. We can rest when we find a camp."

Legolas smirked and mounted Arod again, who surprisingly still waited for his rider. He letted his neck gently and followed the man. They rode for another half an hour until they found a camp.

It was a small clearing. The trees created a protective barrier around them, making only small beams of the evening sun reach the grass. The grass was dry, but not too dry so it would be a fire risk and they had cover by the tree crowns in case of rain. They also had a small lake nearby so they wouldn't run out of water to boil. The horses could also drink how much they wanted to.

Aragorn swiftly dismounted and kneeled down in the soft grass. He put his bag down and took the sticks they had with them in case they wouldn't find any dry, and placed them in a square. He quickly and skilfully made up a glow with his ranger skills. He blowed gently and the fire began to grow, quickly growing big.

Legolas placed his own bag down and got their blankets, spreading his one in the grass before he threw the man his own. They sat back and enjoyed the cracking sound the fire made as it lightened up the growing darkness around them.

Looking up at the now visible stars Legolas spoke up, breaking the silence that lay over the forest.
"The stars are visible.."

Aragorn grabbed the Lembas bread from his bag.
"Yes it's very interesting."

Legolas laughed at the sarcasm and caught the bread Aragorn threw him. He looked into the fire as he ate the piece, making the flames reflect in his eyes. Aragorn had to forge himself not to stare as the perfect cheekbones as he chewed, or at how his blue eyes reflected the fire. He had never before thought of Legolas as more than a very good friend, but he had to admit the elf was beautiful. Very beautiful indeed. Shaking his head and taking a bite of the bread he tried not to think like that. He had a wife. He chewed slowly as his mind wandered.

Aragorn shook his head and grabbed his water bag from his bag, taking a mouthful. Suddenly his mouth felt dry and the bread was impossible to swallow.

Legolas himself saw in the corner of his eye how Aragorn stared at him before he caught himself in the act and looked away. As he drank the water Legolas could see his Adam's apple move as he swallowed, and Legolas noticed himself swallowing hard. He took a deep breath not to blush and forged a smile to his face. He looked up, oblivious to the reason of the mans discomfort.

"Why are you staring at me?"

"Hm?" Aragorn asked in surprise and met the elf's gaze. When the elf repeated his words he forged himself not to stumble on his words, also scolding himself for being careless.

"Come on Legolas, you know you're worth staring at." Immediately after the words left his mouth he regretted them. Legolas would surely think he was creepy now.
"I mean, what else would I be looking at? A rock? It's only we here."

Good save there.

Legolas grinned as he leaned back against the tree.

"You don't look bad yourself." He teased and folded his arms over his stomach.

Aragorn grinned at the reply and folded his arms over his chest, mocking Legolas position.
"Was that a compliment?" He teased, trying to hide that he was a bit embarrassed.

"Could be." Legolas grinned wider, suddenly feeling more confident.
"Depends on if you want it to be."

"And if I don't?"

"Then it's not a compliment."

Aragorn chuckled as he looked into the fire again, immediately feeling more comfortable with the company. It was like the air just got easier to breathe.

Honestly he was glad he decided to take this trip with Legolas. He knew he probably should have invited Gimli as well, but he kind of wanted this alone time with him. Legolas and he had really not gotten much time to hang out and talk like friends and he wanted every minute of his company.

He took his pipe out of the bag and began to smoke. He lay the pipe weed from his bag in the pipe and lightened in on the fire. He put if between his lips and took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. The smoke forming a cloud in between them before it faded into nothing.

Legolas frowned, visibly disgusted.

"That's a really nasty habit you have."

"Hobbit?" Aragorn grinned, feeling proud he came up with the joke.

"Habit...wait what?"

Aragorn began to chuckle at Legolas confused expression. Then Legolas finally got the joke and laughed along with him.

Aragorn forged himself not to stare at his gorgeous elven friend once more, though it was hard. His eyes seemed drawn to the elf beside him and he couldn't look away. Those wrinkles around his eyes as he laughed, or his wonderful laugh itself seemed to have this effect on him. He never noticed as much before as now as he was completely alone with Legolas in the forest. Maybe it was a bad idea.

He needed some distraction.

"Remember when we only were to take a ride in the forest and successfully ended up trapped in a cave?"

Legolas laughed at the memory, even at the horrible memory, making Aragorn grin. Both at the memory and at his friend's laugh. It was very beautiful and contagious.

"Yes that was very careless of us, but on the other hand we're always careless."

Aragorn grinned and looked into the fire. Legolas turned to him and smiled.

"Do you remember what Elrond said to us before we left Estel?
Uuma ma' ten' rashwe, ta tuluva a' lle.'
(Don't look for trouble it will come to you.)

Aragorn chuckled at his foster father's wise words.
"Yes trouble usually finds us."

"Always count on that I'll be there to save you Aragorn." He smirked a little and looked into the grey eyes of his friend.

Aragorn smiled.
"The same goes for you Mellon...maybe that's why we're always in trouble." (Friend)

Legolas laughed softly.

After a a moment of comfortable silence Legolas spoke up, trying to start a conversation as he eyed the Evenstar around the man's neck.
"Are you planning children soon?"

Legolas knew Aragorn would need a heir soon. He was not getting any younger, which to Legolas was a really depressing thought.

"Actually we do." Aragorn said obliviously and smiled a little. He and Arwén had made homosexuality legal in Gondor as well as adoption. So that homosexuals or those who couldn't get their own children could adopt from someone who was unable to take care of theirs. In that way less children would grow up without a parent.

About the children part he did not want Legolas to know about the arguments he and Arwén had before he left, and he did not want him to know about him not wanting children with her. Even though he had no choice. Either that or die without a heir and make Gondor fall. Sure he could always adopt a child with Legolas, but he didn't even knew if Legolas likes him and he wouldn't make a move. He wouldn't ruin the great friendship they had, and surely he couldn't tell Arwén off after everything they have been through, and after she gave her immortal life up. That would be cruel.

He would not be the one to kill the mood right now, so he bit his lip not to put troubles on Legolas shoulders.

If only he knew that was what Legolas truly wanted to hear.

"We plan on at least two if the birth is not too dangerous for her." He said and took a deep breath of his pipe, trying to calm his mind.

Legolas nodded and swallowed his jealousy. He must accept he had no chance anymore, Aragorn was married.
"I want children too when I become King, not that I have a choice on the matter, but I truly want to."

"Yes, you would be a great father." Aragorn said before he could stop himself and Legolas smiled.

"Thank you."

"Anyone that holds your affections?" Aragorn finally asked and gave Legolas a flirting wink.

Even if Legolas knew Aragorn wasn't flirting with him he still blushed. Aragorn immediately noticed when his cheeks burned slightly pink and laughed, knowing he hit a spot. Even though he felt jealous he wanted Legolas to find someone to love, he more than anyone deserved that.

Instead of showing his nervousness the elf began to speak.

"I do not know yet..." He lied and forged himself to act normal.
"I will have children with someone who loves me the way I'll love her."
'Him' Legolas thought, but did not say it.

He looked into the fire again, his face soft, yet emotionless. The flames gently stroked his cheeks, giving him a warm colour in the quickly growing darkness.
"Someone you can give up everything for..."

Aragorn looked at his friend in surprise and a picture of Arwén showed up, offering her immortality for him. She loved him, and it hurt not to be able to give her the love she deserved.

He shook the thought away and smiled warmly at his friend.
"I'm sure you'll find her."

Legolas turned to him and smiled, hiding all his jealousy and hurt deep inside his heart.

"I should sleep. The moon in up." Aragorn said, not wanting it to seem to obvious. He wanted to stop talking about this, he felt really uncomfortable as he did not know how long he could resist the urge to kiss his best friend. He had never felt lust like this before. Maybe this trip was a bad idea, but Legolas was his friend and would always be. Nothing more.

'Yes, keep saying that to yourself.'

"Yes you need to sleep." Legolas smiled and lay his hands in his lap. He looked up at the sky and the shining moon.
"I will stay up."

"Are you sure?"

'Aragorn.' He could have smacked himself. 'He doesn't need sleep.'

"Of course." Said Legolas in a matter of fact, not looking away from the moon.

"Alright." Aragorn said and raised his hands in surrender. He grinned and lay down on the ground, back against Legolas, laying his blanket over his waist loosely.

"Sweet dreams Aragorn."

Chuckling the man closed his eyes.
"Thank you Legolas."
