Chapter 20
Ezra's POV
I sighed as I exited hyperspace, Coruscant looming in the distance. It had been harder to escape than I had originally planned, but I made it out. I had managed to steal a small ship, which I continued to fly here.
I looked out in the emptiness of space before my eyes landed on their target.
The Ghost.
I quickly sent a message to tell them it was me and I flew over to the airlock on the ship. As soon as I stepped foot on the Ghost, I was engulfed in a hug from Ezra.
"I'm so glad you are alive," Hera said before letting go.
I looked to the whole crew, even Chopper standing to greet me. In the background stood Lucy, leaning against the wall. I walked up to her and asked, "Have you told them anything?"
Lucy tucked her hair behind her ear as she replied. "No. I thought best we both do it."
"Now, what is going on?" Kanan asked sternly.
"Well, it is time for the endgame," I said.
"We got that," Zeb said.
"Beep!" Chopper commented.
"We have the identity of the red blade," Lucy said.
"And?" Kanan asked.
"It's Maul," Lucy said, standing up straight.
"What?" Hera and Kanan exclaimed at the same time.
"Do you have any idea who you are dealing with? Maul is dangerous!" Kanan practically yelled.
"We know what we are dealing with. And we are prepared," I said with an even tone.
"We must hurry. Maul will be starting with his plan any second now," Lucy said, turning on her heel and walking briskly to the cockpit. I quickly followed her, the rest of the crew behind me.
"I hope you know what you are getting yourself into," Kanan said angrily.
"I have your training to guide me, Kanan. I will be fine," I replied.
We all entered the cockpit, everyone but Lucy and I taking a seat. Hera starting steering the ship into the Coruscant atmosphere. I looked over to Lucy who seemed to be deep in thought. "Head to the Jedi Temple," she said out of nowhere.
"What? Why?" I asked, very confused at the moment.
"Think about it," Lucy said.
I looked at her, confused, until it dawned on me. Maul wanted revenge. He got his revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Clone Wars, but he never did get revenge on the Sith.
"He wants to destroy it all," I said quietly.
"What do you mean?" Zeb asked.
"Maul wants revenge. He got some of his revenge on the Jedi in the Clone Wars," I explained.
"But he never got his revenge on the Sith," Lucy finished.
"He wants to destroy the temple," Kanan said.
The cockpit was eriely quiet as the news sank in.
"Why don't we let him blow it up? It would get rid of some of our problems," Zeb pointed out.
"Because he is working with the Eighth Sister and Ninth Brother, who are trying to kill all the other inquisitors to become the next Grand Inquisitors. And they want to blame the death of the inquisitors on the Rebellion," Lucy said, as more of his plan dawned on both of us.
"That would most definitely not be good for the Rebellion," Sabine said.
Grim looks were shared throughout the room. Hera speeded up as they raced through the Coruscant sky to the Temple where all of the inquisitors lived. As we approached, Hera landed in a public landing bay a short distance from the temple. We all quickly filed out of the ship and attempted to avoid stormtroopers while at the same time making their way to the temple. They finally made it across the street from the grand temple.
"I haven't been here in forever," Kanan breathed.
"Sorry, but you won't have time to enjoy the view," Lucy said. "He is here."
As she said it, I, too, felt a dark presence. Not one of an inquisitor or Sith, but of Maul.
"Stay here and cover us," I said to my crew.
I was met with a volley of protests, even from Chopper, who had surprisingly decided to come along. "This is our mission. We have to deal with it," I said sternly before following Lucy across the street to the temple. I did not hear anymore protests, only a good luck from Zeb.
Together, Lucy and I climbed the stairs.
"There is little security," I noted without looking at the Seventh Sister.
"They know we are coming, they just do not know what will come of it," Lucy replied.
We entered through the main doors of the temple. The main hall was grand and filled with intricate designs, adding to the effect of the lavish temple. In sync, Lucy and I both pulled out our lightsabers, igniting them. The hums from the blades just adding to the erie silence.
"Well, well, look who came to join us," a voice suddenly said.
I automatically recognized it as Maul's. As I looked around for him, he entered the main hall through a side hall just up ahead of Lucy and I. Following him where the Eighth Sister and Ninth Brother. Lucy and I both quickly went into our fighting stances, with Lucy igniting the other side of her lightsaber.
"You need to stop this, Maul," Lucy said calmly.
"I came here for a reason, young one, and I will accomplish my goals," Maul said.
"You should run now, Seventh Sister, before you and your friend are killed," the Eighth Sister growled.
"We came here to stop all of you, and we also plan on accomplishing our goals," I stated smoothly.
"Well, then you will be greatly disappointed," the Ninth Brother replied.
"Now, before we go into anything to drastic, I feel as if I should give you a fair warning. Leave, or die," Maul said simply.
Lucy and I simply looked at each other and nodded before charging forward at the two inquisitors and the Dark Side user. The Eighth Sister and Ninth Brother jumped ahead of Maul, blocking both of our strikes at the man. We then went into a full on fight. Lightsabers hummed through the air, slicing at our opponents. Flips and dives to dodge and strike were used by all, with Lucy and I constantly switching off what inquisitor we were fighting. All of the training Kanan had given me coursed through my veins. The Force helping me guide my movements. I was surprisingly calm for a fight. But, I realized that I was tapping more into the Force, something Kanan had been trying to get me to do since day one of his training sessions.
I now felt his descriptions of power, of grace, of an undying feeling of victory.
With the combined efforts of both Lucy and I, we had managed to quickly take care of the inquisitors. But, as we looked around, we realized Maul was gone.
"Come on!" Lucy exclaimed, leading me down the side hallway Maul had come out of. As we ran, Lucy quickly ran to the wall, pressed a button I had not noticed before, and quickly rejoined me. Almost immediately, alarms blared throughout the temple.
"That should get everyone out in case Maul blows us up!" Lucy explained over the screeching of alarms.
As we ran, I connected with the Force, attempting to find Maul.
"He is in the room up ahead!" I said to the Seventh Sister.
"That is the council room from the days of the Jedi!" she exclaimed.
We busted through the doors of the room to see Maul standing in the center of the room, holding the detination of a bomb that was by his feet.
"I came here to get revenge, and I will kill them all!" Maul yelled like a crazy man.
"Maul, stop!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, and why, young Jedi? Why should I?" Maul asked, the crazed look in his eyes gleaming.
"Because, the Force gave us this mission to stop you, and we intend to do just that!" Lucy said.
"Well, you are too late!" Maul yelled. He started to laugh. He kept getting louder and louder until his gaze shifted to the trigger in his hand. But, before he did anything, he looked back up at Lucy and I and simply said, "Goodbye."
