Chapter 19

Ezra's POV

As soon as I opened my eyes, I knew something was wrong.  I was in a dreary room, with no decoration whatsoever.  I groaned as I realized I was in an Imperial holding cell.  Memories hit me quick.

The warehouse.

The troopers.

The troopers actually not missing a shot.

Me, hitting the ground.

If I was going to get out of here, the Seventh Sister better work quick.  No doubt the red blade was behind this, and I did not want to meet him like this.

The Seventh's Sister's POV

The warped view of hyperspace loomed in front of me as I looked out the window of Phantom.  As I looked, I heard the hatch that connected the Ghost  and the Phantom open.  Without looking back, I could feel that it was Kanan.

"Yes?" I asked, still not looking back.

"This thing about the red blade still confuses me," Kanan said.

"Join the club," I remarked.

"Why did Ezra and you go to Mirial?" Kanan questioned.

I sighed before answering. "Our journey had first led us to Coruscant.  There, we decided to look through the Empire's records at the old Jedi Temple.  While we were there, Ezra was to go steal the records and I stayed by the inquisitors' quarters to make sure they would not bother Ezra.  But, while I was there, I overheard two inquisitors, the Eighth Sister and Ninth Brother, planning to get rid of competition to become the next Grand Inquisitor.  But, before I could hear too much, Ezra called me to the library, where he was getting the records.  He had me break into the computers, and I told him about the inquisitors, about how there was no new Grand Inquisitor.  After we had gotten the information from the library, we went back to listen more to the inquisitors.  But, as we listened, they sensed us.  We had to get out of there fast.  Once we were back in space, we looked at the information we had gathered, only to find out that there was no information and the droid we had downloaded it on had been implanted with a tracker.  Someone knew we were coming.

"Then, we decided to go to Ilum.  But, when we got there, the whole place was on high security.  The red blade knew we were coming.  We then decided to go to the Jedi Temple on the planet.  We didn't go into the temple, but slept outside in the Phantom. As we slept, we both had dreams that showed the same message; we must find out about my past," I said.

"So, you two ended up going to Mirial?" Kanan said, putting it together.

"Yes.  We tried to get the records for the planet, but, of course, the red blade knew we were there," I explained.

"Why are you doing all this?" Kanan asked.

"Doing what?" I replied.

"You were an inquisitor.  Why would you work with Ezra, a rebel?"

"It is not like we chose to work together.  The Force wanted us to, and the Force got us into this mess.  Whatever the Force wants, it must be pretty important to have the light and the dark work together to find this red blade."

"Do you have any suspicions as to who could be this red blade?"

"I doubt it would be any of the inquisitors, or even Darth Vader.  I suspect it is someone within the Empire, but has there own intentions.  That, or it could be an anonymous source who wants to mess with us.  Whoever it is, Ezra and I know that the three of us are connected through dreams the Force is showing us, we just do not know why."

"Why are you being so corporative?"

I finally looked back at Kanan.  He was leaning against the side of the ship, looking at me.

"Times have changed, Jedi.  The Light Side and the Dark Side are going to have to work together for this.  Ezra and I understood that.  The Force has a bigger plan for all of us.  Whatever the Force is having us do, I know it will not end well.  Something will be sacrificed for the doing of the Force.  The question is, Jedi, is that are you ready for the end result?" I asked him.

Kanan stayed silent, looking at the ground.

"That's what I thought," I said quietly.

I got up from the pilot's seat of the ship and stood in front of Kanan. "Even if you are not ready for what comes next, it must be done.  Now, if you will excuse me, I need to find Ezra before the red blade gets to him first."

I left Kanan in the Phantom, going down the ladder to the Ghost's  common room.  I sighed deeply, closing my eyes.  I fingered my lightsaber, focusing.  I focused on the Force, Ezra, the red blade.

Everything turned quiet as I entered the harsh currents of the Force.   I stayed focused on my main goal, even as I was seemingly thrashed through the inner workings of the Force.  I stayed as calm as I could, tightening my grip on my lightsaber, trying to stay anchored to the real world.

Eventually, the currents weakened, and I was able to be shown what I wanted.  I was given a vision from the Force.

Revenge. . .

Revenge. . .

Brother. . .

Revenge. . .

Jedi. . .

Killed. . .

Kenobi. . .

Revenge. . .

Death. . .

A scene started to appear before me.  In front of me the scene was dark and grim.  It seemed I was underground.  There was junk everywhere, and as I looked, I saw a cloaked figure.  He was walking, looking through the junk.  He walked with what seemed to be a walking stick, but it looked more like a lightsaber.  The hood of his cloak made a shadow over his face so I could not identify him.

As he walked, I could hear a mechanical groan.  I watched the figure as he walked deeper into the darkness.  I didn't understand what the Force wanted me to see.

But, just as I thought that, the figure turned so half of his face could be seen in the light.  He seemed to gaze right at me, and I gasped at who he was.

I knew him.  Not personally, only from the stories.  From the stories told about his quest for revenge.  About his time on Mandalor.

In front of me stood none other than Darth Maul.

"We will meet soon," Maul said in a dark tone.  He turned and walked away.  I stood, shocked.

"How?" I questioned to myself quietly.

"I would like to know the same thing."

I turned to look behind me to see Ezra.

"Ezra!" I exclaimed.  I walked to stand in front of him.  "Maul is the mysterious red blade."

"He must have been giving the Empire anonymous information about our motives," Ezra concluded.

"But there is still so much that hasn't been answered," I said.

"I feel that the Eighth Sister and Ninth Brother will come back and set their plan in motion to make it seem like the Rebellion is wanting to kill the inquisitors," Ezra said quietly.

I grabbed both of Ezra's arms, making him look me straight in the eyes.  "We must stop him from  ripping the galaxy apart.  We need to uncover his main motive.  We need to protect everyone," I said, seriousness lacing every word.

"But we have not finished our mission," Ezra pointed out.

"Us finding out my past is not important.  I don't want all this blood on my hands," I said, letting go of Ezra's arms.

Ezra and I were quiet for a few moments.  Ezra was about to open his mouth to say more, but, suddenly, the scene around us changed once again.

We were back on Mirial.  Ezra and I shared confused glances.  In front of us was a small dwelling. All seemed to be peaceful, but then the sound of transport vessels could be heard.  Ezra and I watched as stormtroopers stepped out of a land speeder and walked up to the dwelling.  They busted open the door.  Ezra and I stood, confused as to what was going on.  Suddenly, we could hear screams from the house.  We rushed to the front door in time to see the troopers, with a small child of the same species as myself.  Following the troopers were two protesting adults, no doubt the parents of the child.

"Lucy!" the mother and father cried as the troopers took them away.

"It's your past," Ezra whispered as we watched the scene.  "Troopers took you from your home to be an inquisitor.  You were born at the beginning of the Empire.  Same as me."

"I'm sorry," I whispered.  "I lied."

"That's not important," Ezra said.

"Yes, it is," I said as I watched my parents struggle to get me back.  "I've never met them before."

Just as I said that, a trooper quickly took out his blaster and shot both of my parents.

"And I never will," I said quietly, a silent tear running down my cheek.

I don't know why I was crying.  I never knew the couple who called themselves my parents, but something about their death struck me deep.

"Lucy," Ezra said.  "Not a very Mirial-like name."

"It is the name my mother and father gave me," I said as more tears fell down my face.

"I think I now know why the Force chose us," Ezra said, his voice even.

"Why?  Why, pray tell, did the Force choose us?  Choose us to do this?" I asked, a little harsh.

"Because, we are both of the new Imperial generation, both experiencing loss.  Both wanting to stop anything worse from happening," Ezra said, a little less harsh than I did, trying to make a point to my mad self.

I looked as the troopers left my past house.  I reached up to my head and grabbed onto the helmet I had always worn, the one the Empire had given me.  I took it off of my head, revealing jet black, waist long hair, cascading down my back.  Being in the Empire, I never bothered to cut it often.

I stared at the helmet.  I could feel Ezra gazing at me, waiting for my reaction.

"We both know something must be sacrificed to complete this mission," I said, casually dropping the helmet to the side.

"I have accepted that, Lucy.  And I know you have, too.  But we need to do this.  We need to save this galaxy before it tears itself apart," Ezra said.

"I know," I sighed in defeat.  "It is time to plan our endgame."

"I am still on Mirial.  I heard the guards talking.  But I can break out.  The security is low.  I will meet you on Coruscant.  I feel that is where Maul will strike," Ezra explained.

"I am with your crew right now.  I will bring them with me," I said.

"Fine.  Just make sure to be there.  I will meet the crew outside of the atmosphere.  I will contact you to let you know it is me."

"I will see you then."

I looked at Ezra one last time before the vision faded.

I opened my eyes to see I was still in the common room of the Ghost.  I reached to take my helmet off again.  I looked at it once again, playing with its meaning in my head.  As I looked, I felt a shoulder on my shoulder.  I looked to see Sabine standing there.

"You okay?" Sabine asked, obviously surprised to see me without my helmet.

I set it down on the couch and looked at Sabine hard before replying.  "I just had a vision.  I know who the red blade is and the endgame has been planned," I said, my voice stone cold.

"Endgame?" Sabine asked.

"We need to go to Coruscant," I said, walking to the cockpit.

"What about Ezra?" Sabine questioned, following close behind.

"He will meet us there.  I just talked to him in my vision," I explained.

"Seventh Sister!" Sabine exclaimed, stepping in front of me, forcing me to stop.

"Yes?" I asked, throughly annoyed.  I had a job to get done.

"What's wrong?" Sabine asked, putting her hand on my shoulder.  "Something happened in that vision."

Another single tear ran down my face as I answered.  "Something did happen, Sabine.  And now that I know what I know, I have all the more reason to fight." I stepped by her.

"Don't count me out of this," she said as we entered the cockpit together.  In the cockpit was Hera, Zeb, and Chopper.  After a couple of seconds, Kanan entered the cockpit also.

"What's up?" Hera asked, seeing the determined expression Sabine and I shared.

"We are going to Coruscant," Sabine said, sitting down.

"And Ezra?" Zeb asked.

"He will meet us there," I said, sitting in the seat next to Sabine, leaving Kanan to stand.

Kanan and Hera shared a confused look, obviously doubting us.

"Trust me, we need to leave now to meet everyone in time," I said.

"Everyone?" Zeb asked, bewildered.

"Just go!" I exclaimed harshly.

"Hera, we need to," Sabine said.

Hera paused before throwing her hands in the air with an exasperated, "Fine!"

I sighed, leaning back in my chair as the warped view of hyperspace filled the outside of the ship.

The end is near.
