Chapter Six
"Ok, ready to see the guys frozen?" Layla asks after everyone is in there dresses.
"Hell yeah, let's go," Analyze says leading the way out of the hotel. She walks confidently down to the beach. The rest of the girls follow close behind chatting about each other's dresses. Analyze walks right up to Jack and he looks her up and down. She's in a simple white dress with a few blue polka dots and it looks amazing on her, well that's what Jack thinks. Layla whistles at them and he rolls his eyes.
Carson comes up to Julia and swings her around before planting a kiss on her mouth. "I like the blue." He says and she smiles.
"Why thank you." She replies before the two walk off.
"Well don't my two favorite girls look gorgeous," Leland says with a smile. "Why'd you go for white?" He asks Layla.
"Just really liked it." She says and he nods. Her's is a strapless white dress that flows around her knees.
"Your is a little low in the top." He says to Taylor. She rolls her eyes at his protectiveness.
"Well it is strapless and Layla's showing more than me, so shut it," Taylor says. He huffs before nodding. Her's starts off white and then goes into black, very simple, yet cute.
"Chloe I like the red. Looks good on you." He says.
"Thank you, though I'd try something new." She says with a little spin.
"Ok, you wanna play some volleyball?" Leland asks. Taylor nods her head quickly looking for the net. "Child you're so weird." He says looking at his sister. She glares at him before starting to walk over to the net.
"Ok, team captains me, my name is Leland and" He looks over to the guy next to him.
"Matt."
"Ok, I'll take Taylor." He says knowing Taylor's good. Taylor smiles and walks over to him. In the end, Leland's team is, Taylor, Carson, Layla, Analyze and another player they just meet. Matt's team has Austin, Chloe, Jack, and two friends of him. Julia said she just wanted to watch, so she's on the sidelines.
"Ready?" Matt asks. Leland nods and watches as the ball comes over to his side.
"Got it," Analyze says bumping it back. Chloe tries to spike it back, but Taylor hits it up and then Leland hits it down.
"1-0," Leland says giving Taylor a high five.
"Ok, match point. 11-10." Leland says. Layla serves the ball over the net. Matt hits it over and Carson makes sure to get it back before it hits the ground. It goes back and forth three more times and then Austin sets the ball over. Leland hits the ball up and it hits the net. Analyze then hits it up again and backs up.
Taylor runs to the front and dives for the ball. It goes up and makes it over, but she's got a face full of sand. Someone hits the ball back over and Taylor hops back off the ground, but someone already it hit back. Jack runs to hit it but misses and it hits the ground. Leland's team cheer and he runs over to pick his sister up.
She laughs as he spins her around. Once he lets her go she feels as if the world is spinning 10 times faster. Leland runs over to his girlfriend and Analyze comes over jumping at her. "We won." She says. Taylor nods with a smile.
"Oh, you so cheated," Jack says grabbing Analyze around the side.
"And how did I do that?" She asks innocently.
"Miss I'm just gonna go in my bikini and leave my dress on the sideline." He says and she shrugs.
"No my fault I'm just too hot." She says. He rolls his eyes before looking over at Taylor.
"Your kinda good at this and you seemed to like it." He says. Taylor nods with a smile.
"Who wants to get some drinks?" Chloe shouts. Every yells and hoots.
"Well let's go," Jack says leading the way over to the bar. Taylor falls behind them and is startled with Austin pops up beside her.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Just wanted to say nice save and how'd the sand taste?" He says with a smile.
"It was amazing. You should try it sometime." She says and he laughs lightly.
"Maybe I will. So, what you plan on drinking?" He asks as they reach up to the bar.
"Just a kiddy cocktail. Don't want to start this early. It's barely noon." She says. He nods and asks for two.
"I don't know if I've ever had the virgin kind of this." He says taking the glass and handing the guy the money.
"Thanks for mine. I used to drink them all the time as a kid." She says grabbing the cherries and eating them. Leland walks over with Layla under his arm.
"Not drinking tonight?" He asks.
"Don't think so, we'll see about later in the day. What'd you get?" She asks looking at his purple colored drink.
"Don't have a clue, but it smells really good." He says and holds it out. Taylor smells it and nods.
"It smells kinda like blueberries." She says. He nods and takes a drink. His face twists as he swallows it.
"It's sour." He says and Layla takes a sip. She makes the same face.
"Oh, wow." She says taking a few drinks over hers.
"Try it," Leland says. Taylor eyes it suspiciously but takes a drink. All she tastes is some weird sour lemon and fruity.
"That's different." She says with a shudder.
"I don't know if I like it." He says and takes another drink. "It's not so bad the second time." He says with a shrug.
"Yeah, well you're washing your mouth before you kiss me again," Layla says moving away from him. He laughs and pretends to kiss her.
"Come on Taylor, before your stupid brother gets himself punched." Layla pulls Taylor down by the water and they walk along just enough to get their feet wet. "So, I saw Austin pay for your drink. That was nice." She says looking up at Taylor.
"Don't even start." She says glaring over at her.
"You looked like you smiled with him." She says. Taylor stops walking and turns to her.
"He made a joke about me eating the sand, he's just being friendly." She says glancing over in the direction he was at. He's laughing with some other guys.
"He's not that nice, trust me." She says and begins to walk again. "You should give him a chance." She says and Taylor looks up from the ground.
"I don't know. He's very....different." She says not knowing how to describe him.
"Yeah, but he's a nice guy and obviously likes you," Layla says and then three little kids run right in front of her as they go into the water. She smiles and laughs as the kids splash each other.
The two walk a little while longer and then find a spot to lay down. They take their dresses off and lay in the sun. "It's so nice here," Layla says soaking up the sun.
"Yeah, I can already tell I'm gonna be burnt." She says knowing the sunscreen she put on isn't going to help her.
"You have like baby skin I swear," Layla says looking over at her.
"I know, it's ridiculous. I'm outside for two hours and get burnt." She says frustrated. She looks down at the ocean and smiles as a family are playing around.
"So, were stay here for three days right?" Layla asks. Taylor turns towards her.
"Yup, unless something comes up and we wanna leave early." She says and yawns.
"How much sleep have you gotten the past few nights?" She asks sitting up on her elbows concerned.
"Enough, just the heat makes me tired," Taylor says and then feels cold water splash at her back. She turns around and sees a little boy trying to work the squirt gun.
"AJ, what are you doing? You just got that girl all wet." A woman says running up to her son.
"Oh, it's fine, really," Taylor says dismissing it. The woman smiles and pulls her son away. Taylor begins digging into the warm sand with her feet. She buries her feet completely and smiles as she wiggles her toes. The sand falling off of her.
She continues to draw and play with the sand until someone's feet are right at her head. She looks up and is blinded by the sun. After sitting up she sees a young man smiling at her. "Hi, what you drawin?" He asks with a slight accent.
"Um...just random things," Taylor replies feeling shy. Layla sits up as well and rolls her eyes at the man.
"Sorry, but she isn't interested." She says for Taylor. He looks over at Layla confused.
"I'm pretty sure the young lady can speak for herself." He says looking down at Taylor. Taylor looks down at her hands not wanting to say anything or be mean. Layla looks at Taylor and sees she's uncomfortable.
"I know my friend, could you just leave us alone," Layla says. The man looks back towards Layla.
"If you don't like me, you can leave, but your friend seems to be fine with me here." He says sounding agitated.
"I'm sorry, but she's right," Taylor says softly. The man looks down at her ready to say something, but Leland puts a hand on the guy's shoulder before he can.
"They asked you to leave. Move along." He says. The man looks at Leland with a smirk.
"Oh, are you the guy that's gonna save them?" He asks with a laughing tone.
"No, but I will be the guy to kick your ass if you don't leave," Leland says and Austin comes over. He looks down at Taylor. She's playing with her fingers with her head still down.
"You think you're so bad. Let's see." The guy swings at Leland. Leland ducts and punches the man in the stomach.
"Leave before you get hurt," Leland says as Jack and Carson both come over with Analyze and Julia behind them.
"Fine, she isn't worth this." He doesn't get the chance to turn around before Leland punches the guy in the face. Taylor yelps as the man falls flat on the floor next to her. Leland goes to hit the man again, but Layla and Jack are both trying to calm him down. Taylor stands up and puts a little space between her and the man.
He gets back to his feet and holds his jaw. "Really?" He asks and steps up towards Leland. Leland pushes past Jack and Layla and goes right at the guy. Taylor jumps in front before he can hit the man.
"He's not worth it Leland." She says staring at her brother. He won't look down at her. "Leland, let's go." She says trying to push him back.
"Yeah, I suggest you listen to her." The man says behind her. Leland takes a step forward, but Taylor pushes against him.
"Leave him. He's obviously a dick and not worth our time." She says and the man narrows his eyes at the back of Taylor's head.
"You'd better watch your mouth before I make it so you can't talk, bitch." At this Taylor can't hold Leland back anymore. He pushes Taylor to the side and goes after the man. Taylor falls on her butt and watches as the guys run to try and stop the fight. Layla comes up to Taylor and helps her back on her feet.
Taylor runs up to her brother. "Leland, stop." She yells as Carson and Austin are trying to pull him away. Jacks trying to get the other man to back off, but he can't really do much. Taylor watches as the man throws a punch and it hits Leland on his left side. Her brother begins to fall and he goes to hit Leland again, but Taylor gets in the way.
The man ends up hitting her in her rib cage. She falls down to the floor as she can't breathe and then there's a ton of yelling. The man is being shoved away by some other guys and her friends are surrounding her. She notices Leland's next to her and is holding his side. "Leland?" She asks, but her voice isn't there.
Layla's kneeling next to him trying to help him, but he can't see with so many people around him. Taylor then realizes how many people are watching. She looks at the familiar faces and then realizes how many aren't familiar. They're all staring at her. She begins feeling her chest tighten. She watches as more and more people come to crowd around them. More and more seem to be talking at her. She closes her eyes, but the noises are too loud.
She opens her eyes and Austin's beside her. He's asking questions, but she can't hear him. There's too many noses to hear anything. She covers her ears trying to block it out. She shakes her head as the noises grow louder. "Shhh." She whispers trying to make everything quiet.
She feels herself being lifted up but doesn't do anything. She feels as people's arms brush past her and it makes her want to scream. "Get away." She mumbles trying to control it.
"Taylor." Someone says. Taylor shakes her head.
"Taylor open your eyes." They say. Taylor keeps them shut until she feels she can handle opening them again. This time there isn't anyone surrounding her and the noises are gone. She looks and sees Austin looking at her concerned. Analyze is next to him and smiles at her.
"Where's Leland? His side. He can't-"
"He's fine. It just missed the scar and he had a little pain because of his ribs. He's fine and he's trying to get away from the person helping him." Analyze says. Taylor looks and sees that everyone is back to their business and kids are chasing after each other.
She watches for a while longer as her heart rate begins to lower and her breathing becomes normal. "Where's Layla?" She asks looking back at Analyze.
"She's with Leland making sure he doesn't skip anything before coming over to you." She says still smiling. "Do you have any pain?" She asks. Taylor shakes her head confused. "Lift your right arm." She says. Taylor lifts and then feels the pain in her side. "That's what I thought. Austin you wanna help her up?" She asks. He nods and looks at Taylor.
He puts an arm under her back and then legs. She feels slight pain but doesn't say anything. They take her to where Leland's getting checked up. "Taylor, what were you thinking?" He asks. Taylor looks up at him startled. He doesn't wait for an answer, just wraps his arms around her.
"Owww." She says pushing against him. He pulls away and looks down at her. She looks at her side and sees the nice bruise. Leland calls the doctor over and he makes Taylor go through some things. She has two bruised ribs, but she doesn't care as she looks at her brother. His nose has a cut on it and his side looks red. "You could have been seriously hurt." She says.
"I can handle myself and you shouldn't be talking. He could have broken something." Leland says feeling rage boil inside of him.
"I'll be fine, but next time just walk away. No one's worth you ending up in the hospital." She says and he nods his head. He wraps his arms around her.
"You aren't losing me anytime soon." He says just for her to hear. She nods her head and then two police officers come over. They tell them what happened, but that they don't want to press charges, well Taylor doesn't want to press charges.
Once everything dies down the group all takes a seat by the bar and enjoys the sun as it's going to go down in a few hours.
"Ok, I'm ready for that drink now," Taylor says. Leland chuckles and nods his head.
