Chapter Twenty
Taylor wakes up and flutters her eyes open. She sees it's still dark and that it's around 1 o'clock. She looks down at Austin and a small smile comes to her lips. She unwraps one of her hands and puts it up to his cheek. His face isn't soft, but it's not prickly either. She traces along his jawline all the way up to the top of his forehead. She smiles as she sees his hair in every direction. She puts her hand through his hair and notices how soft it is. "You look mesmerized." She hears and jumps.
Austin shuffles a little and tightens his grip on her, but stays asleep. She looks over to Chloe and takes a breath. "I didn't know you were up." She says glad that it's still dark because she knows her cheeks are a bright red.
"Woke up a few minutes ago." She says and Taylor nods, not knowing what to say. "Taylor, it's fine that you like him." She says with a light laugh. Taylor smiles and lets out a small laugh herself.
"I know, it's just..." She doesn't know how to finish.
"Just not something you thought would happen?" She asks and Taylor nods.
"He's my brother's girlfriend's cousin. My bestfriend's cousin. I didn't even remember it was him when I first saw him." She says and looks down at him.
"Yeah, but don't worry because I think everyone approves." She says with a smile. Taylor turns her head up confused.
"Everyone approves?" She asks and Chloe laughs.
"Everyone knows you and him have chemistry and we're all just waiting to see how things play out," Chloe says with a little pain in her voice.
"I hadn't realized that he..." She breaks off again.
"Don't worry we've all had those moments." She says and Taylor nods her head. "Now, I'm gonna go back to sleep before your annoying brother comes and wakes me up." She says getting comfortable. Taylor does the same and goes asleep within a few minutes.
Chloe stays up and just watches Taylor. She feels a slight pain in her chest but knows she needs to get over it. She shakes her head, takes a deep breath, and closes her eyes.

"I am not," Leland says taking a turn onto the highway.
"You so are. You're always pushing us around, making sure we don't do anything bad." Layla says agreeing with Julia.
"I told you, you're the Dad of the group," Julia says with a smile.
"Ok, then Layla's the Mom of the group." He says and she laughs.
"No, she's not Mommy enough. If anything it's Analyze or Taylor." Layla says and Taylor looks at her shaking her head.
"I am not Mommy material." She says and Julia nods her head.
"You keep everyone together, you make sure we don't get into bad situations, you've got a hard side that isn't afraid to come out and you've got a soft side that only the people you are close to get to know." She says and Taylor just smiles as she has food in her mouth.
Taylor watches as Layla gets out a stack of cards. She looks at Layla with questioningly. "You're on." She says after swallowing.
"So, let me get this straight. You have two cards in the middle, five on the side of those and then the rest of the deck is separated between the two of you. Then you flip over the middle and begin to put cards down?" Carson asks watching as they play.
"Carson, if there's a five down, you can put a four, five, or a six. You can only set one card down at a time because then you have to pick one up again. So you lay one, pick one, lay one, pick one. Whomever get's through their cards first wins. Aka, why it's called speed." Leland further explains.
Carson watches as the two girls continue to put cards down as fast as they can. "Done."
"Done." They almost say at the same time. "I was one card away," Taylor huffs shaking her head. Layla laughs and does a little dance in her seat.
"Can I try?" Carson asks. They both nod and change it up a so he can play.
"Ready?" Taylor asks. He nods and then the cards are flipped over. He rushes trying to keep up with them but isn't fast enough. They both finish before him and he still has about half of his cards left.
"Let's go again." He says. The three of them play nemours games before Leland arrives at there new hotel.
"Ok, nothing's planned for today, so just don't get into trouble," Leland says getting out of the van. Everyone else gets out and stretches. "You, where is your phone?" He asks coming up to Taylor. She looks up and pats her pockets to find them empty. She looks back in the van and grabs her backpack. After searching every pocket, she finds her phone and holds it up. "I need to put a tracking device on you." He says and shakes his head. "Just answer if I call. Please." He says and she smiles.
"I'll try, but no guarantees." She says and presses the phone button to make sure the volume is up. "Um, it's dead, so definitely no guarantees." She says with a shy smile. He looks at her shaking his head.
"She can use mine," Austin says holding it out to her. She looks up towards him with a smile. "Just don't lose it please." He says and puts it into her hand.
"Thanks," Leland says giving his sister a look. She just shrugs and puts her phone back into her backpack, while putting Austin's in her back pocket.
"Taylor, you coming?" Layla asks. Taylor looks over and nods.
"I;ll try not to lose your phone." She says to Austin. He smiles and nods his head. She smiles back before jogging up to Layla.
"What was that about?" She asks and Taylor shrugs. "You little liar." She says putting her arm around her.
"I don't know what you're talking about." She smiles.
"I think you're flirting with my cousin." She says and Taylor's eyes go wide.
"I was not, he's just helping me so that Leland doesn't flip out." She says and Layla gives her a look saying she doesn't believe a single word. "Just shut up and let's go shopping." She says noticing the other girls are already in a little store.
"Fine, but we are not done." She says and Taylor just laughs.
"Why do you look good in everything?" Analyze asks looking Taylor. She smiles shyly and shrugs. "I'm stuck with like two colors and then trying to find my style." She says shaking her head.
"You look great," Taylor says looking at her outfit.
"If you say so." She says back looking in the mirror.
The girls don't shop for long before going to the beach to relax. On Taylor's left lays Layla, then Analyze, Chloe, and Julia. "You know I going to burn again right?" Taylor asks looking over towards her.
Layla smiles and nods, "Yeah, and you'll have a weird tan line because of that bandage." She says and Taylor looks down.
"Of course." She mumbles. She then hears a ringtone. She turns and sees it's Austin's phone. "It says, Stacy." She reads and Layla holds out her hand.
"It's his Mother." Taylor hands the phone over to her and she answers.
"It's Layla." She says with a smile. "Yeah, Taylor was using it and it rang. She didn't know who you were." Taylor hears. "He's with the other guys, I could leave a message if you'd like." She says with a smile. "Ok, I'll tell him." She says before saying goodbye.
"What was that about?" Taylor asks as Layla holds the phone out.
"She just wanted to talk to him." She says getting comfortable. Taylor nods her head and stares down at the beach. She sees the boys come up and sees they have few buckets of water. She gets up and grabs her towel quickly moving out of the way. She watches as Jack and Leland pour the buckets of them.
They all pop up confused. Layla sees Leland laughing and gets up. He starts running and Layla chases after him. Analyze is already on Jack's back while Chloe and Julia are trying to dry themselves off. "Guess you got lucky." Austin says. Taylor jumps back into him.
"Warn me before you just pop up." She says turning around to look at him.
"Sorry." He mumbles with a smile.
"Oh, your Mom called." She says handing him his phone. He looks at her with wide eyes. "I gave it to Layla, she said she just wanted to talk to you." He takes the phone and taps a few things before putting it to his ear.
"Hey, you called me." He says after she had said hello.
"Yeah, I wanted to know how you were doing." She says and he smiles.
"I'm doing just fine. Now, what is the real reason you called?" He asks knowing that she wouldn't call for just that.
"I wanted to know when you were coming back." She says in a strange voice.
"Um, I don't know. Probably another week, why?" He asks getting concerned.
"I thought you were coming back in a day?" She asks her voice raising.
"Yeah, but there was an accident so we had to postpone a few things. Mom, what's wrong? Is everyone alright?" He asks feeling himself become nervous.
"I don't know, but. Ok, do you remember your ex, Marie?" He hears through the phone.
"Yeah, what about her?" He asks trying to understand the correlation.
"She....um...she's pregnant and is staying it's yours. She's already six months along and-" She interrupted by her son's laughter. "Austin Mccluskey, this is not a funny matter." She says and Austin sits himself on the ground.
"Mom, mom, calm down. She can't say it's mine. We never...you know." He says and this gets Taylor's attention. She turns towards him with wide eyes.
"But she...she said...and I-"
"Mom, she's lying. I can't believe that's what all this is about. I thought it was something important." He says and wipes his eyes.
"Why that little b*tch. I'm gonna kill her for making me think you. I knew my son wouldn't. Oh she thinks" She continues to say parts of her thoughts as she goes through the house. He just waits for her to calm down. "Young lady, you'd better get out of my house and find the boy that got you pregnant. Don't you ever come around me again." He hears his mother yell. He hears commotion and knows Marie is calling him a liar.
"Mom, mom." He says into the phone.
"Yes?" She asks bringing the phone back to her ear.
"Let me talk to her." He says. He hears her mother grumble, but hand over the phone. "Marie, leave my Mother alone. We never had sex and you know this, so just move along and find someone else to take you." He says and she scoffs.
"I can't believe you don't remember. The night I came over to help you study before that big test you were freaking out about. We studied for a little and then things carried on." She says and he shakes his head.
"Yes, you came over, but you were tipsy and I made you leave the house so I could study. My roommate, Jackson took you home. If it's anyone's child it'd be his." He says with a sigh and a shake of his head.
"No, no. It was you. I remember it was you." She says trying to think about the night.
"Marie, no, it wasn't. Just leave my Mom alone and I alone." He says, but she won't. Taylor holds out her hand. He looks at her confused and she motions to the phone. He takes it from his ear and puts it into her hand.
"Marie, I assume is your name?" Taylor asks already knowing the answer.
"Yes, who are you?" She asks back.
"I'm Austin's new girlfriend. So I suggest you leave his mother and my boyfriend alone before I have to come over there. You didn't have sex with him, it was another man. I didn't think anyone could be that stupid, but I guess the world can surprise you. Now just move along and hand the phone back to my mother in law." She says with confidence.
"Now you listen hear you little slut-"
"I'm not the pregnant one, so tell me how I'm the slut?" She asks finding the situation amusing. She stutters out words, but can't make sense of anything. "That's what I thought. Just go find the man that impregnated you and be the best....woman you can for he or she." She says. She hears the phone shuffled around and then hears another woman's voice.
"Hello, I didn't know my son was dating anyone else." She says and Taylor laughs.
"I just wanted to get her to leave you two alone, we aren't together, just friends." She says and looks over at Austin. His mouth is open and staring at her. "And I think there's something wrong with him. He just staring at me like I'm a ghost.
"Wait, is your name Taylor, Layla's best friend?" She asks and Taylor nods her head.
"Er..yeah." She says remembering she can't see her.
"Ahhh, I see." She says and Taylor looks at Austin confused. He mouth's 'What?'. 'She knows who I am.' She mouths back and he nods. "Can you put my son back on?" She asks. Taylor nods her head again and hands the phone back over to him.
"Yeah, Mom?" He asks putting it up to his ear.
"That was the girl you seem to be obsessed with?" She asks. Austin's eyes go wide and he moves away from Taylor.
"Shh, don't say that. That makes me sound creepy." He whisper yells back into the phone. He watches as Analyze comes up and drags Taylor away.
"Well, it's true. You couldn't stop talking about her when you first met her, and that's the only reason you went on that trip. You can't lie to your Mama." She says and he puts his hand to his face.
"Mom, just. Goodbye and don't be fooled by Marie." He says dropping his hand and looking over to see Analyze and Taylor running to push Jack off of the dock.
"I won't, and don't understand why you liked her, but whatever. Love you, see you soon." She says and he ends the call. He looks up just in time to see the two push, Jack. Surprised he loses his balance and falls face first into the water. Austin chuckles and begins walking over.
