Chapter 2

After the ceremony, Tiger said goodbye to everyone, collected her few belongings including clothing, her leather boots, and a diary. She walked with Bear to a small cottage near the forest.it was. A small stable was a few meters down the dirt path with a small caramel horse. "Bear? I thought that you rode a black and white horse?" Tiger looked up at Bear. He smiled a little bit. "Yes, I do. But my horses name is Sky. That horse is yours. I'm going to teach you how to ride him. His name is Spot." Tiger was surprised to be learning already. Bear gestured for Tiger to go and pet him. She walked slowly toward the beautiful horse. With giant brown eyes, Spot looked at Tiger and neighed softly. Tiger notice a small black spot on his eye. "I see why you're called Spot." She murmured. Spot tossed his black mane. "Go into the stable and figure out how to ride him." Bear challenged. "I know how to ride Archer horses. You have to bow down to him or her. Then he's yours forever." Tiger replied triumphantly. Bear looked at her in sheer surprise. "How do you know that?" He asked in somewhat awe. "One time, I was bored and I wanted to go on an adventure. I snuck out the window by my bed and explored the castle. I heard a group of people talking about Archer horses. One said that Archer horses where the finest in all the land and there was only one way to get one." Tiger was being watched intently by Bear. "What inspired you to be a Archer?" He asked randomly. "Well, my sister. She wanted me to be what I wanted to be, not to prove myself unworthy of something that I'm cut out for." Tiger chose her words carefully but kept the sentence. She glanced at Spot, and turned to face him. She bowed down to him and slowly walked towards Spot. She gently put her hands on his saddle and climbed on. Clutching the reins in her hands. She hoped that Spot didn't think that she did it wrong. Tiger was sure she did it right. "I must have, or else I'd be on the ground" she thought. She glanced at Bear. "I did it right, didn't I?" Bear nodded. She looked around. She clicked her heel gently on her side. Spot cantered forward. She practiced all day with Spot. "She learns quickly" Bear thought as he watched Tiger practice turning Spot and walking and running and even jumping. Hours later, Bear called Tiger in to teach her how to make special stew. Tiger was exited. Cooking was not a specialty for Tiger, but she liked it. Tiger walked into the cottage and looked around the corner. Bear was starting the fire in the stove. He glanced up at Tiger and gestured for her to come over. "You know how to start a fire, right?" He asked. Tiger nodded. "You have to get a heat source, stones, and something to burn." She replied. "Very good." Bear smiled a little bit. Bear explained at right way to start a fire in a stove, how to chop vegetables different ways, and how to properly wash eating materials.

After their meal of "Bear's Famous Stew", Tiger asked Bear where she would be sleeping. "You have a little room that's specially hidden for Learners. I'm going to have you clean it every day, and take care of your room. You might use it after your Learning is done." Bear explained. Tiger nodded, thinking about the information that was given to her. Bear must have read my mind, because he asked me "Do you want to go find out what you room looks like?" Tiger nodded vigorously. "Well, your first project. Find your room." Tiger dropped to the floor and pressed her face on the hard pine wood. "I'm looking for uneven planks in the floor." She told Bear as he watched. Bear was muttering something to himself. "No uneven boards" Tiger thought. "Strange." She looked around for pictures or paintings. Aha! There was a painting of a silver arrow flying through the night. She tried to lift the painting off of the wall, but instead it opened sideways. A small opening was in the wall. She climbed up to the hole in the wall. "Hey Bear! I found it!" She crawled into an opening. Bear looked into the hole. He handed over an oil lamp. She lit the other lamps in the room. "I feel like a rabbit." Tiger murmured. "Do you like it?" Bear asked. Tiger nodded. She got her things that were on a chair in the kitchen. She got back into her room. There was a rack with a beautiful recurve bow and a quiver full of arrows. "We might be able to practice with that bow of yours tomorrow." Bear nodded toward the bow. "Goodnight, Bear" Tiger smiled at her Teacher.

The sound of an animal woke Tiger. She climbed up the tunnel to the painting. Bumping her head she sat back on her knees. Rubbing her head, she got back on her hands and feet. She creaked open the painting and saw Bear with a bloodhound. Bear's back was facing her, so Tiger decided to impress Bear and scare him. Tiger quickly got out and shut the painting. She crept up behind him and to Tiger's surprise, he turned and grabbed her by the wrist. Tiger yelped in surprise. "How did you know I was behind you?" She gasped, trying to get her heart to stop pounding in her chest. He grinned in triumph. "I heard you bump your head on the ceiling." He said. Tiger cursed herself as she remembered the mistake she made. "Number one rule..." Bear began "I know, I know, don't be heard or seen." Tiger finished. The Archer turned to the bloodhound. "This is Gus. He's Tomas's dog." He turned to Tiger and before she could say anything he whispered "Go hide in your room. I have a plan to scare Tomas." Bear quickly told her the plan and she nodded. "Okay. Go into my room, get into my cloak, go through the tunnel which leads to the stable. When Tomas comes, go back through the tunnel and hide in the bed. Stay as flat as possible." She laughed to herself as Tiger pulled the dark grey-green cloak on. She lifted up the mattress and leaped into the tunnel. It was big enough for someone to stand up straight. She pulled the mattress over the top. Tiger heard the very muffled voice of Bear calling a greeting to Tomas. She could just make out what they were saying. Suddenly, Tomas's voice was a lot louder. "Do you have another Learner yet Bear?" He asked. "No, I don't." He replied. "You wore me out so much I had to wait for 5 years before I would realize that you were in Calcunias." He added jokingly. "Very funny Bear." Tomas said. "Well you asked a million questions a day about everything. You still do!" Bear retaliated. Tomas said nothing. "Hang on, who's stuff is this?" He asked Bear. "It's nothing! It's not anything!" Tiger got frantic. She silently walked down the tunnel and found herself in Spot's stable.

A few minutes later, after quickly brushing Spot to pass time, she heard Bear and Tomas talking. She went back into the tunnel and appered under her mattress she climbed into her burrow, as Tiger thought was the perfect name for it, put the mattress down and instead of hiding under the covers, she found a small thing of what looked like a trapdoor. For the first time, she noticed that there was small dips in the wall as a way to get up. As quick as possible she climbed up to the door. She opened it and found that it was a storage room. "Perfect. Not even Bear will know I'm here" She hoisted herself onto the wooden floor. She looked around. There was random things like broken arrows, bowstrings, and an axe or two. She looked around and something caught her eye. A beautiful necklace was in an enclosed case. It was a simple leather string, with a small arrowhead. Imbedded in the arrowhead was a blue sapphire. She walked over to it. Was it something she should touch? Could she even be able to touch it? She lowered herself in defense when she heard a noise. "... There was a noise..." She heard Tomas's voice. She crawled to the trapdoor and looked down at Tomas and Bear. Suddenly it opened with a loud creak. Tomas and Bear looked up with equal looks of amazement. Tomas looked at Bear and said triumphantly "I knew I heard someone, Bear!" Tomas looked up at Tiger and shouted up to her "Who are you, little girl, and how did you get into an Archers cottage?" "For your information Tomas, I am an Archer, just like you are. You should be ashamed of yourself for calling me a little girl. Shame, shame, shame!'' Tiger called to Tomas. Tomas looked at Bear. "Wha?..." he couldn't find words to talk. Bear couldn't help himself. "Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I got you Tomas! That's what you get for pranking me last time!" Tomas looked annoyed at first but he joined in the laughing. Tiger was laughing too. She didn't realize that she was slipping. It was too late before she fell to the cold, stone ground.

"Tiger, Tiger! Are you okay?" Tiger woke to the sound of a soft voice calling her name. She tried to go to the voice but she couldn't move. "Don't move, Tiger. You've broken your arm. We are in the stables. Rest your eyes, Tiger" Tiger slipped into unconsciousness. Hours passed, but Bear stayed by his Learner's bed. Tomas was doing everything he could to help Tiger. Thanking Tomas for all he did, Tomas left the room. Another hour passed. Around 4:30 pm, Tiger stirred. Bear looked up abruptly. "Wha? Where? Huh?..." Bear smiled a little. He called softly to Spot. The little caramel horse clopped over toward his barely conscious master. He snuffed by her head. Tiger's eyes opened. She tried to sit up but sat back suddenly. "I'm broken, Bear! What happened?" Bear put his hand on her head. "When you fell, you broke your arm and went unconscious." "How long will it take me to heal?" Tiger fretted. Bear glanced behind him as Tomas walked up. "Tomas?" Bear's friend nodded his head in in thought. "I think about 3 weeks should do it." Bear looked at Tiger and saw a mirror of the sheer horror on Tigers face. Bear thought about giving Tiger a lecture. Then he remembered it was only her 3rd day. Bear sighed and picked up Tiger. She went limp on instinct. Her brought her outside her room. "Tiger, can you get into your room?" he asked. Tiger squirmed and got up. She stood up and opened the painting. After a few moments, Tiger was flopped onto the bed. Bear closed the painting. He sighed again and went to his cott.

Tiger heard Bear go into his room. "Perfect." She wouldn't fall this time. She needed to get that necklace. She began to make her way up the trapdoor. It was still open, and her lamp was still burning. She barely managed into the room. Getting to the "upstairs" was hard enough with 2 hands, but with one it was harder than Tiger pictured it to be. She crawled in. Tiger glanced around and spotted the case. "How am I going to get it out. Hmm..." She noticed a keyhole in the case. "What? I have to find a key?" This was a way for her to practice her Archer skills. Tiger shrugged. She started searching. Tiger noticed something in the corner of the room. It was another case, but this one was smaller. In it, was another necklace. It was similar it the sapphire one. There was a heart locket and a key. "Is that the key for the case?" She looked for a way to open the case. She found 2 small clips and unbuckled them. Tiger carefully lifted the locket and key. It was on a simple chain, almost like a dog tag necklace. Tiger walked over to the case and inserted the key. It was a perfect fit. Tiger opened the case and stared at the necklace. It was beautiful, and yet so simple. To Tiger it was the best. It was a tough leather string with the arrow blue sapphire. She picked it up and admired it for a moment. She put it in her leather collection pouch. She paused to listen for Bear. She heard nothing. Tiger took a look down toward to the ground. She had moved her mattress under the trapdoor. If she fell again, she would be okay. "Right?"
