Annabelle

I woke up in a bed lying on my back. My torso, legs and arms felt numb, but my head hurt so badly and the bright light above that poured into my eyes only made it hurt worse.

"You're awake," a soft female's voice spoke from across the room, "We thought that we lost you a few times."

I couldn't speak. My throat felt dry and sore, so did my tongue as well as my lips. I needed water or just anything to soothe this irritating feeling.

She came closer until the blinding light made her face and body visible enough for me to recognize who she was. She was the only one who took care of me on my first day. Her name's Jennifer.

She has a dark brown pixie cut, deep brown eyes and a toffee like skin color. She wore the same uniform as the other orderlies, but didn't wear her cap or mask, which I always knew that meant that she was one of the good ones.

She always smelled like tropical fruit and treated me like the daughter that she's always wanted. I haven't seen her in forever and seeing her now just made my face light up.

"I'm gonna put you in this chair right here," she backed up to show me a chair, but I couldn't turn my head. She bit her lip and sighed, "I'm so sorry that happened to you, sweetie."

She came closer and gently helped me up, holding me with one arm under my legs and the other arm behind my torso. I inhaled as best as I could despite my nose feeling broken. I loved her so much and I know for a fact that the feeling was mutual.

She sat me down in a chair and strapped me in. I watched her flickering eyes and loved the similarities that we shared. She once told me that she also has Autism and I remember her explaining it in the best way that she could.

She said that on a scale of one to three, hers is a one and mine is a one.

She pushed me out of the room after securing me in the chair and I tried so desperately to turn my head, so I could see what kind of magical chair it was.

I guess she noticed my curiosity, because she chuckled and spoke in a low voice, "It's called a wheel chair. It has two big wheels on the back sides and two small wheel in the front sides."

I exhaled happily and she gently kissed the top of my head as she pushed me down the hall. It was dark and smelled bad, but her natural aroma masked it well.

"Happy Birthday and New Years, sweetie," I couldn't believe that she remembered. If smiling could kill, I'm sure that i'd slaughtered millions of people, "We're celebrating the New Years in the recreation room. There'll be drinks and snacks and music too."

I could hear the music and laughter coming from inside. I'm happy. Or at least I was until I saw Melody in there too.

I frowned as Jennifer pushed me to the dirty and torn chair. The room smelled just as bad as the hallways and I hoped that her beautiful smell didn't become soiled due to it.

I could feel Melody's eyes on me as Jennifer hugged me goodbye.

"See you later, honey." she spoke in her sunny and soft voice before leaving the room.

I shut my eyes while smiling from ear to ear, then quickly opened them and let my smile fade when I heard Melody yell my name.

Her excitement made me want to vomit. I looked up at her unhealthy frame and rolled my eyes the best that I could. I let the blaring music tune her annoying voice out and stared straight ahead.

I could feel her watching me as I ignored her, but I didn't care. She was and still is a very bad person and I wish that i'd have known it before I became her friend.

I watched her walk over to the calendar and my gaze went from agitated to curious.

"Oh my goodness. I'm a terrible big sister."

Her words felt so unreal. She considered me to be her sister after she tried to kill me, which made me wonder if she even had any real sisters and if she did I wondered how she treated them; vice versa.

She turned to me, "H-Happy Birthday," she spoke in a stammered tone.

She walked over to me when I didn't respond and kneeled down. I wished that my body wasn't numb so I could kick her in the face.

The gentle touch of her hand on mine made me shiver, especially when she shut her eyes.

I couldn't look at her. I stared at the window, because fear completely took over and I couldn't imagine how she'd kill me this time.

She must've noticed that I was staring at the window, because she walked over to it and after pushing the doors and fiddling with the knob, she was able to swing it open.

The air that flew I smelled worse than the odor that lingered in this wide room, but she stood there and basked in the wind like she was an angel.

I whimpered as I tried to get up from the chair and I wish that I didn't, because she turned around, then walked over to me. She pushed me over to the window and I braced for impact by squeezing the arms of the chair.

I just knew that she was gonna push me until I flew out of the chair and through the window.

I was wrong. She just sat me there so I could see what she saw, but I couldn't. She must've seen something beautiful while I saw the depressing atmosphere.

I wondered what might've happened to her while I was away to make her go loony. I mean, yeah, she was crazy before, but this felt completely different.

She kissed the top of my head and I cringed at the pain that radiated from the top of my head to the bottoms of my feet.

"I love you, Anna."
