Melody
Months passed until we reached a new year. It wasn't like it used to be: gloomy and draggy. No, today we celebrated the new years. There were drinks and chips and songs that I've never even heard of as well as songs that I haven't heard in forever.
One song in particular stood out to me the most and it was called: Happy Days Are Here Again. I don't know who it was by, but I think it was dumb.
Today and days before were absolutely horrible, but here we are dancing to a song like that. The lyrics were catchy though, and before I knew it I was singing the lyrics as well as thinking about it involuntarily. There must be a word for that.
"Happy days are here again. The skies above are clear again. So, lets us sing a song of happy cheer again," I sang with a big smile on my face.
I was actually feeling really happy; It was uplifting.
Maybe I was having bad side effects from the drugs, but I could've sworn I saw Annabelle by the door with bandages over everything on her face except for her bloodshot eyes, scarred lips and nostrils that seemed to be okay.
She was sitting in something with wheels and being pushed by one of the female orderlies. She had her long, dark brown, wavy hair swimming out of her cap and it almost reached her buttocks. Her dark chocolate eyes full of mystery.
She pushed Anna until she was by a baby blue, lavender scented sofa, overlooking the crowd of patients, then left the room.
I watched her leave before running over to Anna. I was extremely giddy and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I've missed her a lot.
"Anna!" I practically screamed out from excitement.
I stood in front of her and looked into her crimson colored, miserable eyes. I still smiled even though her terrifying eyes bore into my soul like a dagger through a heart.
I walked over to a chart by the window in front of her and smiled. JANUARY 1st
Annabelle Battles
"Oh my goodness," I cried out in a low-spirited tone, "I'm a terrible big sister."
I turned to her and stepped closer, then kneeled down so that I was at her level. I spoke in a soft voice, "H-Happy birthday."
She didn't respond. She just stared at me with clear malice. I swallowed back the tears that wanted to come forward and fall. I touched her hand and shut my eyes, then took slow and deep breaths.
I looked up at her and noticed her eyes looking forward; They seemed empty. I turned my head around to try to see what she was seeing, but all I saw was the beaming light that poured in through the double door window.
I looked at her, then walked over to the window and managed to open it after struggling for a few minutes. The cool breeze that flew in eagerly, felt amazing. In fact, I stood there for what felt like forever and held my head up. I could feel the air pushing past my face and through my long hair. A small smile pulled at my lips and grew into an ear to ear smile.
This moment reminded me of the many trips to the beach my parents, brothers and I would take. I loved the feeling of sand trapping itself in my toes and the warm water from the sea hitting them want cleansing away the sand; It felt nostalgic.
I snapped out of my daze when I heard a slight whimper coming from behind me. I turned around and smiled at Annabelle again.
I'm so selfish. She wanted to feel the breeze too and I was hogging it. I walked over to her and pushed her to the window. She didn't fight, but I could see her hands squeezing the armrests. She must've been eager to see what was out there and feel nature's breath.
I watched her wandering eyes gleefully. She looked at all of the roses and dandelions growing around the building, the beautiful blue sky and pure white clouds that hid the anxious sun.
I kissed the top of her head and sighed, "I love you, Anna"
