Chapter 24

                        Life is a siren

The things we do need are often coated by those we do not want
*****'***********************************

Onyedikachi held her face and caressed it slowly, her heart thrummed in anticipation as it began to beat erratically , the funny sensation in her stomach intensified causing her feet to curl and uncurl. He bestowed on her a sweet smile that smacked embarrassment out of her.

"I've been wanting to do that the whole night" He whispered softly, trailing his thumb on her lower lip.

She wasn't cold, but she could feel the goosebumps coming out to play on her skin. Her tongue darted out to assuage the fire he had ignited on her lip and she heard him groan before his lips blanketed hers.

"Obanma!" Onyedikachi's voice seemed to lull her out of her trance. Obanma could feel the blush creeping from her toes to her face. She blinked rapidly at his beckon and held his gaze still waiting for a response.

Why did it feel as time was slowing down? As if the seconds passed slowly.

Had the earth gone still? The soft wind still pushed the blinds engendering soft tapping sounds on their window in the night. She could hear the humming of the machine that generated light,it was similar to the one that powered light in her faculty. The earth hadn't gone still

Maybe the moon had stood still, because it chose to glow at a particular angle that amplified Obanma's shame. He hadn't spoken ever since she uttered the words that plagued her mind.

"Kiss you?" He muttered again this time, draining every ounce of confidence she had garnered. The heavens granted her the full view of his very stunned face. He looked conflicted, his eyes bearing an emotion she couldn't quite place. Had she misread the signs?
Things had gone very differently in her mind.

Too embarrassed to talk her lips were sealed but she did gently nod.

"You want me to kiss you". He stated again staring deep into her eyes, a hint of amusement sparked in his.

God to kiss you " he muttered to himself and Obanma wanted to drown in the ocean of embarrassment that masked her.

" Kiss me of course!  Yes place your lips on mine and save me from hating myself for eternity "

She practically screamed the words in her mind, she had truly ruined things by letting her emotions speak over reason.
That was the end of it, Onyedikachi was making fun of her, why did he keep reminding her of a terrible mistake.

" I'm sorry, I just thought... Onyi please forget I ever asked. I wasn't thinking straight, I just wanted to know how it does feel to kiss someone you probably like. I've never done that before or anything more than that. I shouldn't have said that, now you know I'm a virgin!
Hilarious

I am totally embarrassed, and and I ramble when I'm nervous and honestly I'd prefer we just went to bed and forgot about this ịnụ.

Like we'll never talk about this" she gave a forced laugh and could tell his amusement grew. What was the point in kissing him, it meant the beginning of a doomed relationship

"There's no point starting what we can't finish, I mean Chijioke would bury me alive if he ever.."

Her rambling was cut short by the feel of his lips on hers. She didn't want her first kiss to be slobbery and disgusting like Kelechi had described hers but she wanted to capture every detail in her mind.

His lips teased hers in a way that sent her nerves on fire. A sharp intake of breath by Onyedikachi proved that he was engulfed by the same sensations swirling in her body.

How his tongue gained entrance to her mouth she couldn't say, how was a simple kiss drowning yet saving her at the same time.

He stroked her tongue, tuning it into a certain rhythm that left her breathless. It was a sensual tango in her mouth.

Her eyes fluttered open and she saw him smiling down at her, her ragged breathing was the only evidence that a kiss had happened.

He seemed completely in control of his, but how had he gotten on top of her?

Kissing came with amnesia or amnesia came with kissing, her mind was a complete mush

"I told you it always worked on me" He huskily declared, reaching down to capture her hands.

"Thank you for not thinking straight, I didn't know how to go about this. I have been truly wanting to kiss you the whole night. You wouldn't want to know what you have been doing to me"

A victorious smile appeared on Obanma's lips and she thanked the Heavens. She hadn't misread the signs after all.

Shifting to his side of the bed, he gently drew her up.

"You do ramble when you're nervous" He chuckled lightly, still the reverberation of his voice did strange things to her body.

Onyedikachi stood up and walked to the window, she watched with astonishment as he towered over her after he had pushed the net aside, giving room for more air to come in.

"Won't  mosquitoes feast on us?" she enquired with a frown, she hated those little creatures.

"No, the place has been fumigated....and You're sweating"

She hadn't realized the beads of sweat that clung to her face.

He pulled her up and she followed him a bit reticent as she tried to figure out what he was up to.

Onyedikachi halted in front of the windows staring down at her with a grin.

Obanma loved the fact that his frame towered over hers, she liked looking up to meet his gaze, she loved that their hands were linked together but she hated the wobbly feeling her legs had been giving her since their first kiss. The bed would have been much preferable for her.

"Obanma do you want me to kiss you again because I'd very much like to do that"

She laughed as the words left his lips, Onyedikachi was young man with a strange sense of humor.

She nodded slowly and he shook his head feigning disappointment

"Say the words" He whispered into her ears, gently stroking her ears with his tongue.

"Y.. Yes I do"

"Good because I intend to take back what the king stole from me or at least make the most of what I have"

It was then that she looked out of  the window following his gaze . She could see the garden below them gleaming with the bulbs scattered around. The moon above and the stars blinking far away.

"He didn't kiss me tonight, you did"

"No he didn't but I am going to kiss you here so that nature will bear witness Mma"

Her eyes trailed from his shirtless body to his eyes, which seemed to never waver from her face. She gently touched his stomach, capturing each little ab beneath her fingers. She let her hands explore his chest, the firmness speaking to her in ways she couldn't explain. All the while, she enjoyed the effect her amateur ministrations were having on him.

He pulled her closer to him, reached down to the hem of his shirt which hung on her thighs. His hands were slow as they explored, stopping directly below her breasts.

With her eyes dazed with passion she looked up, caging his neck with her hands pulling his face to hers. She did not need to ask, he kissed her with so much longing and the earth truly stood still. They were all that mattered, their soft moans, Onyedikachi's grunts of pleasure.

He carried her to the bed while she clung to him like a baby, each struggling to draw in enough breath as their tongues  plundered the  treasures in each other's mouth.

Onyedikachi lay in between her legs and she could feel the growing pressure of his arousal on her belly.

He kissed her slowly again, limiting his hands only to her belly and face. But she wanted more, her body craved more. It seemed as If he lighted a fire that didn't want to be quenched.

She had meant to guide his hands to her bosom but he he beat her to it. She melted as he captured one of her breasts, her sharp intake of breath accentuates by a moan aiming to shatter Onyedikachi's resolve.

He couldn't help staring at her wriggling beneath him, it felt so right but why did his conscience speak otherwise. He wanted to make love to her right there and then but his conscience kept whispering words to him.

This is Obanma, the girl he vowed to take care of. The girl whom he had always loved, the girl he would always do right by. The girl who had just confessed to being a virgin!

Obanma noticed his reticence to continue in what they had started and simply stared back at him as his gaze was honed on her

"He was taking what wasn't his to take in the first place or was it? He wasn't sure anymore and she probably didn't even know what they were about to get themselves into. Was he just toying with her?

Amara was still waiting for him in Delta. He couldn't bear to see her hurting, how would he then take her?"

"Is there a problem?" She managed to ask suddenly concerned by his demeanor.

"No.. Mba. I'm just... I think.. We should go to bed"

He gently slipped his hand out of her cloth, placed it on her forehead. This time his breathing was just as ragged as hers and she could tell he battled with his emotions.

What had gone wrong? He seemed to be enjoying the kiss.

He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead and bade her goodnight.

She had wanted to talk but she couldn't. She simply turned to her side and pretended to fall asleep. It was only way to save herself from another deluge of embarrassing banter.

As sleep drew on her, she felt his arms enveloping her and soft kisses on her cheek lured her to sleep.

***************

A call woke Obanma up and she caught Onyedikachi at the foot of the bed just staring at her.

"Good morning" He greeted with a smile and she couldn't help but reciprocate.

"Two things" He muttered distracting her from her phone. He seemed to have woken up much earlier because he was already dressed for work

"You look very beautiful and Chijioke is the one calling"

Her smile died immediately she heard her brother's name.

"Today is the 24th! Chijioke said he'll visit on the 24th. He's probably at my place now Anwụọ la m, I'm dead.

" Calm down he's.. "

" He is going to kill me after he finds out I spent the night with you!"

" How would he? He's..

"He knows me like the palm of his hands! I can't lie without him seeing through me!"

"Obanma He's in Enugu, Kelechi called to tell me that he spoke with her this morning, he had been calling while I was having my shower. I meant to wake you up but I figured I loved watching you sleep"

His revelation slaked her concern and she heaved a sigh of relief.

"He was probably calling to tell me he canceled"

"That's not it, I'll tell you after we.. We talk about last night" Obanma could see how uncomfortable Onyedikachi looked as he tried to speak. The memories of the previous night had been held at bay but his words sent them floating in her mind. The kisses, the caress the feel of his palm on her..

She didn't want to finish the thought, so she simply garnered enough courage and spoke to him.

"I know, it was a mistake. We were in that mood and we just happened to fall for nature's plot. It won't happen again, it shouldn't " She stood up removing the creases on her cloth with her palms then wandering around the room in search of nothing in particular.

His eyes trailed her body and rested on her nipples which seemed to point through the dress.

"You're lying and that wasn't what I was going to say" He declared as he caught her hand. He knew how awkward things would become after what happened but he didn't want any awkwardness between them.

Onyedikachi could see the struggle as she barely looked at his face. Her eyes were trained on his tie.

"It wasn't a mistake and you know it. Calling it a mistake won't change the fact that it happened."

This time her eyes met his momentarily and he saw a glimmer of joy in it.

"You and I know that we want it to happen again"

Obanma stepped away from him, forcing a laughter that she knew appeared as fake as her course rep's Gucci shirt.

"I don't want it to happen again Onyi"

"Sure you don't, your body says otherwise. Starting from those turgid peaks that have been at attention since you saw my face"

"What turgid peaks.." Her eyes followed his and she quickly hugged herself to cover her chest.

"Covering it doesn't mean it's not there and I was wrong about what I did last night"

"So you agree it was a mistake"

"The mistake was hurting you from my irresponsibility"

Her face relaxed and she saw the same emotion he bore the previous night.

"Hurting me how? It's because of our families right?" She enquired reaching out to hold his hand

"Not that... It's difficult because of you. I've always cared about you Obanma. I can't tell when it started but it's been there and yesterday while you wanted just a simple kiss from me, I would have made love to you if we had continued."

The shock on her face made him realize he was tight to stop after all. She hadn't even truly thought about the consequences of their kiss

" I don't want to do that without defining what we are and I do not want to hurt you in the process . You probably would have woken up with regrets and hatred for me if I had let things get out of hand"

"I wouldn't hate you, it's not as if you forced me to kiss you and you care about me, didn't you say so yourself. I think you're just scared because of what happened to our families in the past and also because deep down you probably still see me as that little girl you knew back then "

"You're a virgin, it's different, you may have asked but you certainly do not know what you're asking for. And I never saw you as a little yesterday, well since the time we met at that bush. I don't want to hurt you, I can't treat you like others."

"So what are you saying Onyi? What exactly do you want?" She saw reasons with all he said but deep within she feared thinking about the consequences of what may come out of a relationship between the two of them.

"Friends with benefits" He blurted out with a smirk

"Thunder fire you" She replied enraged, her eyes blaring invisible bullets at him.

"I'm kidding" He began to laugh causing her lips to curve in a small smile.

"I know better than to get on your bad side, the horrors of your eze oke sinking into my thighs have been etched in my mind forever"

The laughter she sought to hold in broke out and she clamped her lips shut, releasing chortles.

"I'm sorry about that, I thought you had..."

"Attacked Chijioke, I know. I don't ever go looking for fights, it's not my style.

Obanma I don't know what we're to become but I know I don't want you to become somebody else's bride. It's not good enough I know, but I'm hoping we take this a step at time "

She thought deeply about his words and realized that truly it was a bad offer. Still her heart wanted to close in on that deal. She could see the uncertainty written all over his face, he seemed a bit terrified

" What will be our first step, If I say yes"

A grin appeared on his face and he approached her. She felt quite stupid as she fumbled with her shirt, a bit too shy to face him. But deep down she wanted another mind blowing kiss from him.

"This"
He managed to lift her chin up with his thumb, wrapped his hands around her in a very soothing embrace.

Obanma didn't know why she drew comfort from his embrace, it felt like they were connecting. The truth was they were both unsure and terrified about what they were getting into. He kissed her slowly enjoying the feel of her softness while she basked in his warmth.

"Your aunty is in labor, Kelechi told me earlier. That's why Chijioke was calling."  He whispered huskily into her ears after he broke their kiss and she broke away from his embrace.

"Daa Agatha is in labor! You should have told me. I have to call uncle Nnamdi"

"If I had told you earlier, we wouldn't have spoken about us besides I wanted us to have just few hours to ourselves. I'm traveling to Asaba today. I wanted to delay the worry too ". He appeared genuinely disappointed as he broke the news to her.

"The company called, I have to handle this myself apparently Ralph found the work tedious and his father put me in charge"

"You leave this morning right?"

"Yes"

"We'll leave together then" Her response denoted that she was angry. But he never spoke to her till they left the apartment.

Their ride to her school was in silence, Obanma texted Chijioke and apologized and he texted her back, claiming that he was dumping alcohol into his uncle to calm his anxiety.

"I'll visit like always and I'll call everyday"

"I don't doubt that you will, Amara will be expecting you too"

He seemed upset by her words and grew quiet almost immediately.

They arrived her place in few minutes and he led her in.

Kelechi had been preparing to leave when they came in. She quickly greeted Onyedikachi and stepped into the kitchen, to give the pair some privacy.

"You'll have to learn to trust me Oba"

"Teach me to do so then, I may not know what to call what we are but I don't intend to share"

He exhaled deeply, knowing that he had caused the reason for her mistrust.

"I haven't been with anyone since our encounter in Owerri, please believe me. I don't want to leave knowing that you're probably wishing that a car runs me out of the road"

"I don't wish that for you, you know that"
She replied with a smile.

"I didn't before" He reached out and caressed her face "Now I do"

He placed a quick kiss on her lips and pulled her into a long hug, before beckoning on Kelechi. They saw him to his car and he drove away.

Kelechi turned to Obanma with an annoying grin plastered on her face.

"Ehe babes... Don't hold back spill or should really ask? How was it?"

"Depends on what you're asking about"

"The kiss he paid me for"

Stunned by her declaration Obanma glared at Kelechi who couldn't help but laugh.

"So you agree to selling me off, If you must know...It wasn't slobbery and disgusting like some people's own "

"Burn!" Kelechi declared as she feigned a heart attack while the pair laughed as they made their way to their room.

Obanma quickly rushed to her phone when she heard it ring.

"ọ mụọ la? A boy okwaya ?" She was still holding onto what Obinna had told her as a child. She could hear screams of joy while Chijioke struggled to speak to her amidst the noise. He was practically yelling as he revealed everything to her.

"Eee she just left the labor room now, mbà ọ mụrụ nwaanyị, it's a girl "
