Chapter 3

*My POV*

Jake and I listened to all the sounds around us, from cricking bugs to yowling in the distance. A gurgling sort of sound appeared on their side and Jake quickly turned, gun aimed up at the monkey like creatures. One stopped and stared down at us, while we looked back. The creature wasn't fuzzy, it had rubbery like skin, almost like their own, with four arms instead of two, and blue and yellow marks all over it's body.

"Prolemuris. They're not aggressive, Jake." I explained quickly as the creature moved away. "Relax, Marine." Mom shoved the barrel of the gun down towards the ground. "You're making me nervous."

"So, how will they know we're here?" Norm asked, the further we traveled into the trees.

"I'm sure they're watching us right now." Mom answered him simply. Norm stopped and looked around.

"Keep moving, Norm." Jake and I sighed.

"Keep up, guys!" Mom called back to us as she walked ahead. "And here I go." Mom said, inserting a needle into the root of one of the trees they made a stop at, to collect data.

*3rd POV*

Neytiri and Tsu'tey finally made their way through the great jungle, leaping up into a tree. The strange feeling felt comforting the closer they got. They jumped into the next tree, giving them a perfect view of the four Sky People Avatars, they kept a good distance to keep safely away just in case.

They held their bows stead at their sides seeing two of the strangers with guns. But they noticed that one of the female Avatars were wearing Na'vi clothes. They looked around the four and smiled as they saw Grace. But they heard voices telling them they are not there for Grace. They looked back at the male and female Avatar with guns. They had yet to see their faces. They stood up and walked across the tree branches to try and get a better look.

"Scanning." Norm stated, holding out his device. "Oh, wow! It's that fast?" Norm gasped in amazement. The tree roots were on screen, showing a budding life force that was flowing through each and everyone.

"Amazing, isn't it?" Grace laughed. "So, that is signal transduction from this root to the root of the three next to tit. So, we should take a sample." She explained.

"Okay. Sample." Norm agreed and began looking through his pack.

Jake and Izzy sighed, they were bored, about three times as Grace had spoken. They started to walk away from the pair as they continued to talk about the life force of the tree. Neytiri and Tsu'tey watched the man and woman carefully and followed after them, staying out of sight.

"You know, it's probably electrical." Norm pointed out. "Based on the speed of the reaction."

"Norm, you've contaminated the sample with your saliva." Grace sighed.

"Oh, right." Norm's cheeks flushed.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey had gotten down from their tree and moved into the next one, being just a hair closer to them. They watched the strange newcomers, leave Grace and the other man she called Norm alone. Neytiri and Tsu'tey continued to stay hidden in the tree line, behind some thicker branches, watching them curiously.

As they waked and turned around a cluster of the trees. They managed to unknowingly give Neytiri and Tsu'tey a full view of their faces.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey couldn't help themselves from admiring the man and woman. Something about them seemed different to them than all the other Sky People, they had seen. Including Grace. Not to mention the fact, that Neytiri and Tsu'tey found the man and woman cute in a strange sort of way. One that gave their stomachs butterflies, in a way Skylar and Ryan did not. They quickly shook away their thoughts and frowned.

"Who are they Great Mother? Why did you lead us here?" They breathe quietly to themselves.

Jake and Izzy admired large and strange flower like pants that grew enormously and in a large number together. "It's so beautiful." Izzy said softly which caused Tsu'tey', Neytiri and Jake's hearts to pound in their chests. Jake touched one gently and it shrunk, disappearing into the ground. Jake gasped and Izzy smiled. Neytiri and Tsu'tey chuckled quietly to themselves seeing them recoil so easily.

Jakes topped and turned his body, checking on Grace. Seeing her and Norm still fine and next to the trees, he moved forward again, reaching for an even bigger version of the plant. He touched it again and chuckled this time as it recoiled into the ground. Izzy laughs happily.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey couldn't help but be amazed by this man and woman and the fascination they had with the simple flora.

Jake reached out and touched another one, making multiple in the field of flora close down and disappear.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey lifted their heads slightly over the branches guarding them and they gasped. They were seeing a herd of Hammerhead Titanotheres not to far away from the flora since they'd been known to use them as cover.

They were a large rhinoceros like creatures, and one was in the field with the man and woman. The herd wasn't to far away. Specially as this one roared like a trumpet at them it's cover disappeared.

Jake and Izzy's relaxed bodies suddenly turned stiff seeing the unknown creature, while Grace and Norm came running towards them for aid. Jake pushed Izzy behind him and aimed his gun at the creature and Neytiri and Tsu'tey gasped quietly. No matter who they were, they weren't about to let Jake hurt the creature.

It was Jake's fault for disrupting the plants, making the creature defend itself. Neytiri and Tsu'tey raised their bows ready to stop him if needed to, not that his bullets could pierce the creatures hide. They lowered the bows as Grace approached, explained the creature to them.

"Don't shoot. Don't shoot, you'll piss him off." Grace assured Jake and Izzy through their com links. She and Norm hid behind a nearby tree. The Hammerhead trumpeted angrily and smashed it's hammerhead like trunk into the trees on either side of him.

"It's already pissed off Mom!" Izzy retorted and Jake held up the gun.

"Jake, that armors too thick. Trust me." Grace assured, also wanting to keep her daughter safe.

Reluctantly, Jake removed the gun from facing the creature, pointing it in the air instead. The creature still didn't back off and continued to thrash about its head, taking out some more of the smaller trees.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey ducked as one was lifted from its roots and thrown their way. They held tight to the tree they were in so they wouldn't get knocked out of it.

"It's a territorial threat display, Jake. We can't move." Izzy explained from behind Jake. "Do not run, or he'll charge." Grace demanded.

"So, what do we do, dance with it?" Jake asked sarcastically.

"Just...hold your ground." Grace instructed them calmly.

The Hammerhead Titanotheres, scratched the ground with it's foot, growling and then began to charge at Jake with a large roar. Neytiri and Tsu'tey couldn't help but be nervous about what this strange man and woman would do. They didn't want them to die, nor to expose themselves either. But lucky for them, Jake's face scrunched up and instead of running away, he ran at the Hammerhead with a loud yell, waving is arms and making himself look bigger.

Izzy was worried as her braided hair fell over her chest. The Hammerhead trumpted in his face and slowly backed down, lowering it's feather's that surrounded it's head. Jake let out an amused laugh, glad that he didn't just die.

Izzy tackles him in a hug from behind laughing happily. Jake hugged her back, twirling her around. Then placed her back on the ground.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey's hearts tugged in their chests and they wanted nothing more than to hear the full laugh from this man and woman. The strange feeling they quickly shook away and their focus recentered. They watched carefully, quickly realizing that somthing else was wrong.

Sure, what he did was great, but that wasn't enough reason for the Hammerhead to back down like it was. Neytiri and Tsu'tey pulled themselves higher into the tree seeing the black figure approaching behind Jake and Izzy and they gasped.

"Yeah? Come on! What you got?" Jake taunted the Hammerhead as it continued to back away from him. Thinking it was his doing. "Oh, yeah. Who's bad? That's right. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, bitch."

Izzy heard snarling and looks behind them and her face filled with.....fear.

Tsu'tey and Neytiri really wanted to jump down and save them, but they knew they couldn't.

'Moron.' Neytiri thought as she slapped her face, running her hand downward, as Jake failed to hear the snarling behind him with his loud taunts.

"That's right." Jake said as the Hammerhead turned to run away. He could see the herd that had came to aid the creature behind it. "Get your punk ass back to Mommy. Yeah? Yeah, you got nothing. You keep running. Yeah, and why don't you bring back some of your friends, huh?" Jake said. "Jake..." Izzy's trembling voice said as she tugged on his arm. Her trembling voice broke Neytiri, Tsu'tey and Jake's hearts.

A black panther like creature snarled louder than before, with it's jowls flipped upward and the scale's on it's head standing straight up. Jake slowly turned around and the ears on his head flattened in fear as him and Izzy back away. The Thanator roared a massive lion like growl and leapt over Jake and Izzy's head, making Jake aim the gun once more, with Izzy behind him.

"Oh shit." Izzy and Jake gulped.

The Hammerheads all stood their ground and trumpeted even harsher roars then the one done towards Jake, at the predator. Grace quickly took a protective stance in front of Norm and began to back away, her eyes never leaving Jake and Izzy's bodies.

"So what about this one?" Jake asked quickly, seeing the Thanator turn and snarl at him and Izzy once again. "Run? Don't run? What?"

"Run!" Neytiri and Tsu'tey whispered in fear.

"Run! Definitely run!" Grace yelled.

Jake and Izzy turned their backs, Jake lowering the gun to the side, and they began to run away from Grace, Norm and the Thanator.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey began to leap from tree to tree, watching the chase take place. Wanting to help but also knowing they were required to keep their distance. I'd only intervene if absolutely necessary, they told themselves.

Jake and Izzy ran through a bundle of trees that slowed the Thanator down for only a moment, before it clawed its way through them. Jake and Izzy gasped and continued to run away. Leaping over fallen trees, narrowly missing the never-ending clamping jaws of the Thanator. They crawled through a low set of roots, early getting their feet chomped on. The Thanator did not give up its chase, continuing after them in every which way he tried to go. Jake and Izzy dove into a set of roots that were raised underneath a tree, creating a sort of barricade for themselves.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey's braid swung around her face as they stopped in a tree nearby, praying hard that they would continue to run instead of stay. Knowing the claws of the Thanator easily out matched the roots. Which Jake and Izzy quickly came to find out, even if Izzy already knew.

The Thanator leapt down onto the roots and stuck a claw inside the barricade, reaching around for them. It roared in annoyance at not being able to reach them as the man and woman scooted as far back and away as they could. The creature jumped up and over towards the roots that Jake and Izzy were directly under and began tearing with it with its sharp claws, placing its strong jaws around several of the roots and tearing them away from the tree. Giving him entrance.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey watched as bullet's suddenly starting firing from the roots, making the Thanator roar and bounce around to avoid the attack, also hearing the scream coming from Jake as he shot at the creature.

"JAKE!!!" Izzy shouted angrily.

Jake gasped as the Thanator was smart. It quickly lunged into the hole, taking the gun from his hands and tossing it away. Izzy and Jake waited for a moment unsure of what to do now. The Thanator quickly came back, lunging again into the hole and snapping its jaws towards them. They quickly crawled out as the creature became wedged and began to run once again.

The Thanator quickly backed out of the hole and chased after them again, leaping from the top of some higher roots and tackling down Jake and Izzy's with its claws. It hissed and circled them, making Neytiri and Tsu'tey prepare to jump down to get in front. Willing to take the attention on themselves.

Before they could even try, the Thanator jumped forward as Jake and Izzy tried to crawl away. Its jaws clamped onto Jake's backpack and thrashed him about. "Jake!" Izzy called out worried for her friend that she cared to much for.

Jake's quick thinking led him to unbuckle the strap that was keeping him attacked to the bad and he slid free. His body thrown away by the creature while thrashing about and began attacking the backpack.

Izzy rushed over to Jake and helped him to his feet as he grunted, and they continued running. Realizing that the pack was empty, the Thanator stopped attacking and began chasing after the runaway Avatar's again. Jake and Izzy pushed their feet forward quickly and came closer to the edge of a cliff.

With no choice, and slowing not being an option, they jumped and plunged down into the water below, narrowly missing the teeth of the Thanator that tried to snap at them. The creature almost fell in behind them, but quickly caught itself on the rocks and climbed back up, roaring at the water below, not seeing Jake or Izzy rise again.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey leapt from the tree during the chase and began searching desperately for any sign that they were alive and okay. They knew there was a strong current at the bottom along with sharp rocks, so chances were slim of survival. And yet, they could somehow feel it in their guts that they were alright. It was strange feeling knowing that they were connected to their people, and normally not the Sky People. But this man and woman was different somehow...

Neytiri and Tsu'tey chased the riverside by foot waiting to see where they could emerge. Suddenly, their blue heads appeared above the surface of the water and Neytiri and Tsu'tey let out dramatic sighs of relief, quickly hiding themselves behind a tree.

Jake and Izzy grabbed onto a over hanging root that stretched out over the water and used it to climb their way out the river. Neytiri and Tsu'tey trailed behind him on foot for a while and watched as Jake pulled out a knife from his pocket, creating a spear from a piece of wood.

"Jake, that is not needed." Izzy said softly to her friend. "The creatures only attack if you do."

Tsu'tey and Neytiri smiled at this, he watched Izzy try to convince Jake as her crystal blue eyes pleaded her friend, but he didn't listen.

"Idiot..." Izzy said in Na'vi.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey chuckled silently.

Jake and Izzy were stuck along in the forest of Pandora, paranoid with no knowledge to guide him, but Izzy helped. They turned at every peep, every sound or stick breaking, searching for the source of the noise. Neytiri and Tsu'tey watched over them as guides of sorts, making sure that they were safe.

Clearing seeing that Jake had no idea what he was doing, but Izzy did. Neytiri and Tsu'tey moved from chasing him around on foot back into the trees, as they leapt into the next tree, arms suddenly surrounded her and they nearly yelped out, causing Jake and Izzy to spin quickly around, but Izzy pushed Jake's weapon down.

Neytiri's siblings, Stitch and Jasiri grabbed them and covered their mouths, while giving them a stern look of disapproval. These two were Tsu'tey's best friends.

"Why are you following those Sky People?!" Jasiri hissed quietly as Jake and Izzy started to walk away after not seeing anything. "I warned you about this! We have to kill them; it's the rules and it is the only way to keep our people safe."

"No, Stitch, Jasiri, wait!" Neytiri and Tsu'tey hissed protectively at their siblings.

Ignoring their words, Stitch and Jasiri lifted their bows aiming right at Jake and Izzy's backs. Neytiri and Tsu'tey let out small shrieks and was about to jump and tackle their siblings. When they felt the presence of Eywa. Two seedlings from the Tree of Souls came floating gently into Stitch and Jasiri's eyesight. They waited to release their bows as the spirits landed on the end of their readied arrows.

"See?" Tsu'tey huffed quietly. "They are the sign from the All Mother we were looking. Their spirits are pure, we can feel it."

Stitch and Jasiri lowered their bows at their words, knowing their connection didn't apply to Sky People and the spirits took off floating away. Neytiri and Tsu'tey prayed silently thanking Eywa for intrusion to save this man and woman that they knew almost nothing about.

It was very rare for Eywa to intervene, but there was indeed something about them. Stitch and Jasiri looked at us and sighed, before looking down to the man and woman.

"Should we follow them?" Stitch asked.

Neytiri and Tsu'tey faces which was scrunched waiting for them to yell and force them home, relaxed and looked up at them surprised at their words. They gave them a look waiting for a reply and Neytiri and Tsu'tey nodded happily at them. They followed Jake and Izzy even as night fell, watching over them curiously. Neytiri and Tsu'tey knew they had to protect Jake and Izzy if needed.

Trudy's helicopter flew around searching for any sign of Jake and Izzy.

"I'm gonna have to call it, guys. We're not allowed to run night ops. Colonel's order." Trudy sighed. "I'm sorry, Doc. Their gonna be have to hang on until morning."

"They won't make it till morning. And my daughters out there." Grace replied with a sigh and was worried for Izzy.
