Chapter 11

Evie sat on the hood of a car she was working on since it was her break. Simon sat next to her, drinking a Red Bull and Josh was leaning against the car. It was about as hot as Los Santos always was.

"Have you guys ever been in a gang?" Evie wondered.

"No, it's always just been us two. We've done deals before but... you know." Josh answered, thinking about the deal him and Simon did with JJ. The one where they tricked him into buying fake gold. It was funny back then.

"Where exactly are you guys from again?" Evie questioned.

"Can't say." Josh shook his head.

"Did you guys have some sort of pseudonyms?" she continued.

"Yes, but we can't say what." Josh declined.

"Got a family or a backstory?" Evie interrogated. Josh and Simon just stayed silent, not wanting to talk about it. "Sorry. Is there something you guys can tell me? I've never met anyone so secretive."

"We can't risk telling you anything. We have to stay hidden. Besides, all you should have to know is we're criminals." Josh assured her.

"What about you? What's your story?" Simon countered.

"Well, in simplified form, Cal and I weren't exactly happy with our parents so we kinda ran away. Cal started a gang and I was part of it at first but then I dropped out of the illegal part and got this job." Evie came forth.

"Evie, Evie!" Lewis came sprinting around the corner.

"What?" Evie responded, a little bit of fear in her voice.

"Do you have any duct tape?" he asked.

"Yeah, what for?" Evie asked before handing him the roll.

"Uh, to cover a hole." a small smirk sat on his mouth.

"Hmmm, okay." She handed him the tape but once he was gone she turned around to Simon and Josh and said, "I don't trust him. Follow me." They walked around to the front where they saw Joe holding a boy's arms behind his back. Lewis was trying to pull off a piece of tape.

"What the hell are you two doing?!" Evie shouted. Josh recognized it was Ethan who was struggling to get free.

"Stop! Let go of him!" Josh yelled. He pushed Lewis away and freed Ethan from Joe's grip. "Ethan..." he grunted.

"That kid slashed my tires!" Lewis exclaimed.

"I did no such thing." Ethan denied.

"Ethan would never do anything like that." Josh backed him up.

"You two know each other?" Evie was confused.

"Yeah, he's an old friend of ours." Simon filled her in.

"I don't care who he is but he's not getting off easy!" Lewis started to charge at him. Simon stepped in front of him and held him back.

"I didn't do it. I don't even know who you are! I was just looking at the gashes that weren't from me. See I have no weapon!" Ethan defended. He rubbed his wrist that were burning from Joe's tight grip.

"Lewis, chill." Evie pulled him away. "I'll be right back." she excused herself as she took Lewis and Joe around back to talk.

"Ethan, what the hell was that?" Josh spat.

"I did do it." Ethan admitted.

"What? But you don't have a weapon." Josh was baffled.

"When I was 'examining' the gashes I was really hiding the knife behind a tire." Ethan said proudly.

"Smart but why?" Josh

"I don't know. I've been feeling very angry lately." Ethan clenched his fists.

"That doesn't mean you should take it out on other people's stuff." Josh scolded him.

"It's not like you guys haven't." Ethan

"It doesn't matter what we did. Look where that got us. Don't fuck up your life like we did." Josh advised.

"But I thought you guys liked living this life?" Ethan. Josh and Simon were at a lost for words.

"It's fun to an extent." Simon shrugged.

"Hey, while I'm here, I have to tell you something. Harry, a big news reporter who needs to go to hell, is in town and he suspects that you guys are here. So I would stay low if I were you." Ethan warned.

"Thanks for the warning. Where's your friend, Vik?" Josh wondered.

"Doing his own thing I guess. He doesn't hang out with me as much." Ethan shrugged. He felt kind of abandoned by his best friend. Vik never seemed interested in Ethan anymore. It was like he was slowly trying to break away. At least Vik made it an effort to try and seem engaged with Ethan. Simon and Josh are his only true friends now. Ethan has that same feeling of being unwanted and unimportant like Josh and Simon did around the same age.
