Chapter 9

Evie stood in between Josh and Simon as they walked down to the train tracks. They are about to make their first drug deal and Evie has to watch over them.

"I don't get why you have to come with us." Simon groaned.

"Because I need to watch you guys and make sure you don't do anything stupid or try to pull something funny." Evie addressed.

"We didn't do anything on our last one. Don't you trust us?" Josh fake pouted.

"I trust you but Cal doesn't. Besides, this is your first drug deal, correct me if I'm wrong?" Evie guessed. Josh didn't say anything. "Exactly."

"Will you let me do the talking?" Josh asked for permission.

"Sure do what you want." Evie aloud him. As Josh went ahead to do the business, her and Simon stayed back.

"Oh of course Josh I'll do anything for you." Simon mocked Evie.

"Ooo, someone's jealous!" Evie laughed.

"No, why would I be jealous?" Simon crossed his arms.

"Cause you have a crush on me." Evie teased.

"What?! No I don't." Simon denied.

"Yes you do. It's so obvious." Evie smiled.

"I think you're the one who has a crush on me!" Simon turned the tables.

"No. I don't date assholes." she sneered.

"You're right. Josh is the one you like." Simon accused.

"Even if I did, it would make more sense. At least he doesn't insult people or have such a big ego." Evie said.

"Ugh, just go suck him off." Simon spat. Evie's face scrunched up as she slapped Simon hard across his face. He wanted to hit her back so much but he controlled himself. "This is a good example of why I don't like you."

"I'm glad that taught you a lesson."

"Oh I'm just trying to be nice. You didn't tea-" Simon was cut off.

"Hey! You two. Stop." Josh barked. "God you guys act like children." he shook his head. "This is one of those stupid frienemy relationships isn't it?"

"Yeah but without the friend part. She's the one who hit me." Simon tattled.

"Evie, please don't hit my friend." Josh sighed. She mumbled something to herself. Simon smiled as, once again, Evie obeyed Josh.

Later, that evening, Simon went off to do his own thing because he likes to do that sometimes. Josh and Evie sat on the front porch just talking.

"You should've been happy I made that boy shut up earlier." Evie said.

"Who, Simon?" Josh asked.

"Yes. He's so annoying and rude to me!" Evie spat. Josh chuckled at her.

"I promise he's a really nice and loyal guy. In fact, I think you're the only person he treats like that, who isn't an enemy." Josh realised.

"But why? Be honest, does he have a crush on me?" Evie asked.

"No, no, no. Love is not in his vocabulary. Simon wants nothing to do with the matter." Josh told her strongly.

"Why?" Evie wondered.

"Personal reasons." is all Josh said.

"Then why doesn't he seem to like me?" Evie still didn't understand.

"He likes you but sometimes you kind of just set him off. If that makes sense? I think he just feels threatened. As in, it's always kind of just been us two. No one else. And we used to be at the top. But now with you here, and the fact you're a dominant, independent person, he just wants to... assert his position and that I'm his friend. No one else." Josh figured as he explained.

"He means a lot to you doesn't he?" Evie stopped playing with her hands and looked at Josh.

"Everything. We needed each other so much and we still do." Josh answered. They most likely wouldn't be alive right now if it weren't for each other.

"Well, I'm gonna head out." Evie stood up.

"Where? It's getting dark out." Josh advised.

"Don't worry about me. Worry about whether or not Simon will find his way home." Evie shrugged before leaving. All she wanted to do was just walk around a bit but not too far. Maybe have a smoke. She rarely does that so why not now. She walked to the small park right outside their neighborhood. Then a man walked up to her.

"Hi there, I have a favor I need to ask you." he said politely. There wasn't anything special about his appearance other than he was black.

"Uh, okay, what?" Evie replied cautiously.

"I've been watching that Simon and Josh hang out with you a lot." his tone of voice changed very quickly. "You are going to backstab Josh, literally, for me at a later date." he somewhat commanded.

"What if I don't?" Evie challenged.

"Then I'll kill, Simon." he declared. Evie remained to appear looking calm although on the inside she was scared. "And don't act like you don't care if I did because you should. It's obvious you have feelings for Josh and you wouldn't want his best friend to die because of you. He'd never forgive you. In fact, he'd probably pull something on your brother and then he'd kick you out."

"So you want me to kill Josh... or you'll kill Simon?" she thought out.

"Yep. Also, today is Monday so I want you to murder him next Tuesday." he ordered.

"Why then? Who the hell are you?!" Evie confronted him.

"Don't worry about me. Worry about if you're going to get home safely." the man sort of restated what she had said earlier. He smirked before leaving. Evie looked around nervously before running home.
