Chapter 3

The plantation was just like James remembered, though it had been restored and made into a museum the museum as shut down long ago due to loss of interest. Walking up to the old doors, James put his key inside and then unlocked the doors opening the home of his past. Colin holding Diana in his arms took her into the drawing room and laid her down on the sofa. The house's furniture was covered with sheets to try and preserve them, and the pictures were given the same treatment.

Walking to the fireplace, James lit a fire though he had no need for it, he knew it would keep Diana warm. Colin went to the fireplace as well but removed the sheet from the painting above the mantel, once he did he saw a portrait of Kathrine.

"One hundred and fifty-four years later and she still looks the same...seems like cruel joke if you ask me." Colin comments as he moves to a chair and sits down.

"It's not her fault...she is the one who must suffer in lifetime after lifetime. She has had the sense of freedom in each lifetime only to have it ripped from her." James tells Colin who nods in agreement.

"Do you ever wonder if any part of Katherine is still in there? Like even in her memory or something like that?" Colin asked.

"Of course, I do, don't you wish the same was true for Victoria?"

"Touché, I was just asking...got any ideas?"

"Tell her the truth like you said, we have even less time so the faster she knows hopefully the faster she can accept it."

A few hours had passed and still Diana was fast asleep, Colin was growing restless wanting to know more about this life she was living. Looking out the window Colin realized he hadn't seen James in a while and taking his phone out he decided to text him.

'Where are you? I didn't think this house was that big that I wouldn't be able to sense you.' Colin text and sighed as he looked back to Diana.

'Had to get out for a while, be back before dawn.' Was all that James replied?

"He has the nerve to say I am the irresponsible one...whatever she's fine here so I better find a place to rest to." Colin sighed as he walked off into the house.

Diana's eyes opened wide half an hour after Colin had left her side. Looking around the room she thought that she was still in a dream. The room looked as though it belonged in a southern plantation. Sitting up slowly she looked around to find the house was very beautiful and had exhibits just like her museum had. Standing up from the chaise she went to one of the exhibits and looked down to find a picture of James. Underneath the picture was a description of the picture. 'James Worthington, builder and owner 1860'. Logic tried to come to her mind thinking maybe the James she met was perhaps a descendant or something along those lines she began to explore the house.

Walking up the stairs she felt as though she was being led somewhere, not by anyone but by her own body in fact. Arriving on the second floor she cautiously opened the third door on the left, upon opening it she realized it was in fact a woman's room. A beautiful white dress was laid upon the bed and the vanity looked as though it was still waiting for it's owner to return. Stepping up the vanity she looked down at the picture placed upon it. There her heart stopped for only a moment when she saw yet another picture of James but this time standing right beside him with a bright smile on her face was a woman who looked just like her.

Gasping and jumping back a little she looked over to the standing mirror that looked her way, though when she looked in the mirror the reflection did have her resemblance, but it was not her. The way the reflection dressed was different and she looked much sadder than Diana did. Curious to know what was happing she walked forward, she was not afraid of the reflection in the mirror, if anything she felt bad.

"He's in trouble...please you have to save him." The reflection called out in desperation to Diana.

Looking behind her to see if maybe the reflection was addressing someone else, only to see no one did she turn back to the reflection and then pointed to herself in question.

"Yes, you Diana. I know who you are and that this is all very confusing, but James life is in danger and you need to save him!" the reflection cried at her again.

"He's a vampire, why can't he defend himself? I really don't see how I could help him." Diana answer honestly.

"The life after mine, Victoria, she was raised by vampire hunters. I know deep inside of you she is still there, and you can save him from the vampires who plan to kill him on this very night. I would not risk coming to you so soon, but time is not on our side this time. He is at a vampire tavern call 'Stealth' you have to get there and find him before Sean does." The reflection speaks quickly but gets her point through to Diana.

"Stealth...that's a vampire bar and you want me, a human, to just willingly walking into there?" Diana questioned as her hand went to her neck in fear of getting bitten.

"James wouldn't let anyone bit you, please we are running out of time. What have you to lose?" the reflection said as she began to explain that if Diana didn't save James then there would be no way that he could protect her.

"Fine, I will just go to this place and if I die...don't meet up with me." Diana huffed as she went out of the room.

Going down the stairs she stops as a gleam catches her eye. Walking into the parlor Diana grabs a dagger that was mounted on the wall and slips it behind her back. Even if she did die, at least she would go down with a fight.

Stealth was a barn...Diana shook her head in disbelief...vampires hanging out in a barn...now she had seen and heard everything. Pulling the hood of her sweatshirt over her head to hide as much of her appearance as she could she began to question her own logic. For example, why the hell was she doing this? Shouldn't she be making a run for it? Were what those two men said the truth? After her final though Diana looked up just in time to see someone grab James by the back of his neck and lead him out the back door.

"Damn...Victoria if you are in me somewhere it would be great to be able to remember how you fought these guys off." She said with a groan as she followed them out the back door.

James seemed to be taking them on quite well, obviously he was an older vampire, but she didn't know what skills he had. She figured she could just slip away until one of the vampires knocked James on his bum and then bared his fangs at James. Without even thinking and as though it were second nature to her, Diana grabbed the dagger from her back and attack the vampire. One swift stab right through the heart and he plopped to the ground dead.

"What the hell?!" one of the other vampires yelled out.

"Who is this idiot interfering with our business?!" the bigger boned one questioned.

James watched in shock as the person turned the vampire's way and removed her head, revealing herself to be Diana but she wasn't acting like Diana...the woman he had just met was weak and shy, this one had just killed a vampire as though she had been trained her whole life.

"You have ten seconds to run from this idiot before you end up like your boss bub." Diana told the vampire confidently.

Instead of heeding her warning, the smaller of the vampires attacked her and she took him down with grace. It was like a weird defensive dance as she grabbed him by his shoulder and literally pushed him down into the earth, breaking his neck no doubt. It was less than a few seconds before she looked up at the vampires again with a strange gleam in her eyes. She would kill every one of them without even blinking once, of that he had no doubt. They took the hint and went running for the hills. Standing up and dusting himself off James watched as Diana turned to look at him.

"Diana?" he questioned as she smiled at him.

"Is that my name now? I was just getting use to Victoria. She called for me...so I came here and helped but I gotta go now, her body is weak...you need to stretch her stamina." Victoria spoke using Diana's body and when she finished Diana's body fell right into my arms.

"Stretch her stamina...that shouldn't be hard." James scoffed as he picked Diana up and began to walk back to the plantation.

Once back at the plantation, James carefully laid Diana down in Katherine's old bed. The white lines still as fresh as he remembered them. Tucking her in he couldn't help but stare at her. Diana was able to ask for help from one of her past lives and they helped her. He didn't know that was possible. This opened so many more questions.

"Why'd you moved her up here? Dawn's almost here..." Colin's voice brought James out of his thoughts.

"The windows are sun proof, no need to worry that was one expense I did go in one. It reflects the UV rays which burn us, so we can still walk around normally." James answered but did not look away from Diana.

"Ok...why did you bring her up here then?" Colin restated his question as he walked up to James but then she the picture on the vanity. "Oh, this was her room."

"Colin, she did something tonight, something I didn't even think was possible." James spoke in a serious tone.

"What? She fell in love with you after one day?" Colin replied with an eye roll.

"No, Colin Victoria was the one there at the tavern that fought vampires off me, not Diana. She told me so herself. Diana asked for her help and she did it. That shouldn't be possible." James said grabbing Colin's arm and pulling him out of the room.

(James Pictured Above)
