Chapter 36

Drew knocked on my door while I was getting ready for school. "Are you decent?" he asked while I was pulling on a shirt from outside the door. He didn't try to open it, and I was a little surprised because I thought that he would.

"Just about," I replied and finished putting on my shirt. "Now, you can open the door. I'm decent." I started to get my shoes on while Drew opened my door and closed it behind him.

Drew leaned against the door and folded his arms across his chest. He stared at me while he stayed silent, and I was super aware that he was there.

I didn't say a word and finished tying my shoes while I got ready to go to school. My heart pounded hard in my chest, but I kept myself composed, knowing full well what he wanted to ask now that we were alone.

Thankfully, I didn't have to wait long while he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Well?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.

I sighed and closed my eyes while I stopped doing what I was doing. "Well, what?" I asked, even though I knew what he wanted to ask. I made sure that my voice didn't quiver, not wanting him to know that what this was, whatever this was, made me nervous.

"What are we?" he asked and walked over to me. His steps were faint against the carpeted floor while he walked, and it didn't take long for him to stand in front of me. "What are we going to do? What are we considered?"

I cleared my throat and looked at him, making sure that my face was blank. I shrugged and didn't say a word while I stared at him, and he sighed and shook his head while he grimaced because I was taking too long to answer.

"Come on, Chris," he scolded as if I was a child, and I raised an eyebrow in question. "Don't hide yourself from me. What are we? What do you want us to be?"

"I hide myself from everyone, Cupcake," I all but purred, and he scowled because he knew that I did. "I don't need to be told what I can or can't do."

Drew sighed and shook his head. He moved a hand through his hair, and I had to clench my hands into fists to stop myself from wanting to follow his lead and stroke his hair, too. "I want us to work," he said finally. "I want to be with you, Chris."

I leaned back on my bed and looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "What about your other girls?" I asked, making sure to keep the jealousy out of my voice. "Your flings? I don't want to be just one of them that captured your eye, and then you left them in the dirt after you got their way with them."

Drew opened his mouth to say something but closed it when I raised my hand to silence him. He pressed his lips into a thin line while he looked at me, waiting for me to say something else.

"I also don't take kindly to cheaters, Andrew," I said, saying his name on a rare occasion so that he knew that I was serious. "I don't want to say, "yes, I am with him," and then have him go around screwing anything else with an ass and boobs because he couldn't wait for someone to give it up."

Drew raised an eyebrow and looked a bit disgusted that I said his real name. However, he didn't say a word while he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet while he studied me. "Are you wanting to wait until after marriage?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.

I wrinkled my nose and pursed my lips, not knowing how to answer that question. I had no idea what I wanted to do or not to do, no idea what plans I wanted to go through for my first time or for the times after that. "I don't know..." I said and cleared my throat. I shifted in my bed and looked down, not able to meet his gaze any longer. "This is... all new to me. I don't want titles or anything else because..." I shrugged and grimaced.

I had never thought that someone could love me for me. I never thought anyone would be attracted to me or me being attracted to someone else, so being attracted to Drew was something new.

I thought that I would die alone, grumpy and old, which hadn't been a bad thought after all of these years of being single and not having someone wanting to date me.

I didn't want to get disappointed by someone close to me again, especially with someone that I was slowly falling for...

Drew's gaze softened while he studied me. He slowly nodded, and I had a feeling that he understood what I meant.

He walked over to me and knelt at my feet, something I hadn't expected him to do. He grabbed my hand and brought them to his lips, gently kissing them and leaving a trail of fire in its wake while he studied me some more.

"You didn't think that this would happen, didn't you?" he asked, his voice soothing. He kept my hand in his, and my heart started to pound hard in my chest while a lump appeared in my throat.

I stayed silent while I looked at him through my eyelashes, not answering his question. I didn't move a muscle and made sure that everything about me was stone cold so that he couldn't tell how much he made me nervous. I had no idea what he wanted to do, what he was planning, and I hated it because it felt as if I wasn't in control when in reality, I didn't even have control of what I felt towards him.

"Do you want to keep this a secret for the time being?" he asked and rubbed his thumb across my hand. "I don't mind doing that for the moment," he said softly, "until you get comfortable about the idea of dating someone and titles and shit."

I studied him and stayed silent, wondering if there was an ulterior motive to that plan. I cleared my throat and shifted on my bed while I looked at him. "And what if I don't?" I asked, finally speaking. "What if it takes too long for me to get comfortable with titles and stuff like that?"

Drew shrugged. "We'll talk about that when the time comes," he said. "For right now, I want to be with you and only you."

"What about your flings or flirting with others?" I asked. "People will know what is up if I start getting jealous of other girls and then flirting with you."

"And they'll get suspicious if I don't flirt with them," Drew said, and I pursed my lips in disgust because people would be suspicious of him since he was a major flirt. He grimaced and shrugged. "I will stop sleeping with anyone that has legs and a vagina," he promised. "I'll try not to flirt as much, but I don't want people to think that we are together."

"And what if you get one of your urges?" I asked, "especially during school."

Drew smiled innocently, and I silently cursed myself for asking that question because I knew what he was going to say. "That is what my hand is for, Sweetie," he said with a purr in his voice. "A woman can do so much, but so can a hand."

I wrinkled my nose in disgust but didn't take my hand out of his. "You're disgusting," I said, and he chuckled and nodded. "Do you know that?"

"I do," he confirmed. "I know that I am disgusting, but I know that you don't care if I am or not."

"Shut up."
