Chapter 40

"Are you going to leave again?" Marcus asked when he sat down at the table with Drew following him. He grinned and dipped his head, and I held back my eye roll while I worked on some homework.

"Maybe," I replied and shrugged while I pursed my lips in annoyance. "Why?" I asked. I looked up at him and raised an eyebrow.

"Because I don't want you to," he said and pouted, and I bit back a snort.

"And why don't you want me to?" I asked, and I raised an eyebrow further before I went back to my homework.

"Because I like you hanging around us," he said, "and I know that Drew likes it too." He wiggled his eyebrows, and I rolled my eyes and scowled. "Even if he won't admit it."

Ethan almost spit out his drink, and I looked at the two of them with a weird look on my face. "What?" he asked, croaking. He cleared his throat and moved a hand across his face to make sure that he had nothing on it. "What did you say?"

"I said that I liked her hanging out with us, and I know that Drew likes it as well." He sniffed and looked away from us. "Even if he won't admit it."

I narrowed my eyes and scowled while I grabbed my pencil tighter.

Does he know? I silently wondered while I studied him and not saying a word.

"Why did you say it like that?" Ethan asked. He looked at me and pressed his lips into a thin line. "Is there something that you aren't telling me?" he asked.

"About what?" I asked and raised an eyebrow. "Me and Cupcake?"

"Yes," Ethan said and nodded. He narrowed his eyes and studied the two of us, moving his head back and forth while he studied us.

"What's wrong with Ethan?" Eevie asked when she sat down beside me on my other side. She set her plate down and cleared her throat. "I mean, why is he looking between you and Drew?"

"He thinks that there is something going on between both Cupcake and I," I replied and moved a hand through my hair. "I don't know why he thinks that, but he does."

"I do not," Ethan said. "Why are you putting words into my mouth?"

I held back an eye roll and bit back a scowl. "I am not putting words into your mouth," I replied coldly. "I know that look."

"There's no look," he said and shook his head. "I don't have a look. Why do you think that I have a look?"

"There is a look," Marcus said. He looked at Drew. "Are you two seeing each other?" he asked and raised an eyebrow. "Is there something going on between the two of you?"

Drew held back an eye roll and scowled. "And why would we be together?" he asked while he took a bite out of food.

"That is what I am wondering," Ethan said. "Why would you two be with each other?"

"We aren't," I said and narrowed my eyes while I scowled. "Why are you even wondering this?"

"Because I know you, Chris," he replied, "and because he hangs out at your house every day." He gave me a pointed look. "Even I don't do that."

I blinked and blinked again before I gave him a pointed look, staying silent. I wasn't sure if he wanted me to say something or not, so I decided against it, making sure that he knew what I meant because of my look.

He didn't stay there because he had to look after his family against his father...

Ethan held back an eye roll and scowled. He didn't say a word while he looked at his food and started to pick at it.

"Well?" Marcus asked and looked between us. "What are you getting at?"

"It's nothing," I said and took another bite of my food. "He knows what I mean."

"I don't," Eevie said with a scowl on her face. She narrowed her eyes while she looked at me. "What do you mean?"

I bit back a small sigh and shook my head, annoyed. "Eevie, you know a bit," I said. "Don't play that with me."

Eevie scowled and narrowed her eyes. She didn't say a word while she looked between the two of us.

Finally, realization dawned in her eyes, and she looked between the two of us again to make sure that what she thought was correct. "Oh," she said and slowly nodded, and I nodded in confirmation while I pressed my lips into a thin line. "I get it, now."

"Get what?" Marcus asked and furrowed his brows. He looked between us and pouted. "What does she get that we don't get?"

"About why I don't live there or stay there for a while," Ethan replied coldly before he cleared his throat, and he took another bite of his food. "It doesn't matter, so don't worry about it."

Marcus rolled his eyes but stayed silent.

However, after a while, he cleared his throat and wiped his face with a napkin. "So is there something spicy going on between you two?" he asked and changed the subject while he looked at me.

I bit back an annoyed groan and rolled my eyes. "Again, why would there be something going on between us?" I asked and raised an eyebrow.

Marcus shrugged while he looked at me. "You tell me," he said. "Is there something?" he asked. "You keep diverting away from the question, so..." He smirked and dipped his head closer to his chest, and I scowled and narrowed my eyes while I looked at him.

"So there is?" Ethan asked while he looked at me and Drew. His eyes were wide, and for some reason, he didn't look too shocked. "Right?"

"There isn't anything going on between us," I said before I finished my food and cleared my throat. "He has his lady friends and such, and I am not into being someone's leftovers."

Drew bit back a snort and held back an eye roll. "Of course not," he said sarcastically. "What are you trying to say?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.

"I am saying that you have been sleeping around with females. It is the truth, isn't it?"

He shrugged. "Are you saying that you aren't interested in this?" he asked and raised an eyebrow higher while he gestured to himself up and down, and I rolled my eyes and scowled.

"No," I said and shook my head, and he snorted and looked away from me. I pressed my lips into a thin line and took another sip of my drink.

Marcus didn't say a word but the look on his face had me scowling at him.

"Wipe that look off of your face, Marcus," I seethed and narrowed my eyes while I scowled, and he looked at me with wide eyes and an innocent look appeared on his face. "There is no need for that look."

"What look are you talking about?" he asked innocently while he raised an eyebrow. "I don't have a look. This is just my pretty face."

I rolled my eyes and scowled. "I don't believe you, Marcus," I warned, and he grinned and shrugged. "Why are you being such a brat?"

Marcus shrugged again and bit back a small smirk. "I am not doing anything," he said again. He looked between the two of us and winked, and his smirk deepened. "But, that doesn't mean I can't think of something going on between you two."

I rolled my eyes and didn't say a word while I took another sip of my drink. If he knew or didn't, I didn't know, but I wasn't going to find out.

Maybe, just maybe it could blow over before anything could happen...
