Chapter 48

I leaned against the front porch railing with a cigarette in my hand and waited for my father to show up, surprised that he wasn't here yet.

No one in the house stirred or went to check up on me, all of then knowing not to intervene unless they wanted someone to get hurt or worse killed, which was something that I was trying to make sure didn't happen, especially since I had no idea what the future would hold.

It was why I sent everyone else out of the house and sent them home...

I pulled another drag from my cigarette and watched the driveway, waiting for the man that I called my father to come up the driveway. I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face while I watched the road and driveway, silently praying that my father wouldn't be stupid enough to do what he threatened over text.

I bit back a small snort and rolled my eyes, pressing my lips into a thin line while I continued to wait for him or for a text that said that he had been apprehended before he reached me, even though I knew that text would never come.

It would stop everything that we had planned out years ago...

My phone vibrated when a text came through that wasn't from my father, and I looked at my phone to see a text that seemed to make my world, my whole life, seem to stop and slow down, and each second became a minute and each minute became longer than a different minute.

The text said, 'he's two miles away. Are you sure you want to do this and for us not to intervene?'

I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I put out my cigarette and reached for my phone, answering the text with a quick, 'yes,' and then, 'stand by,' because I had no idea if my father was going to do something that we didn't plan while we created these plans for the future.

My whole body was tense, and my heart skipped a beat before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest. I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh while my whole body shook, praying that this wouldn't be as bad as I had thought it would be.

"Oh, God," I grumbled while I pursed my lips in annoyance. I shook my head and bit back a tired huff, biting the inside of my lip. "Please, make sure that everything goes according to plan." I moved a hand through my hair and across my face while I pursed my lips further in annoyance. "As much as I am ok with dying, I do not want to die because of him."

I bit back a small groan and tapped my finger against the railing while I waited for him to show up or for a different text from someone else that would tell me how far away he was from my house and to get prepared for his arrival.

Even though I was already prepared...

I moved a hand through my hair again and bit back a tired sigh, not knowing what the future would hold and prayed that there was a way that I could survive this and get away from my father and mother with or without the small family that I had made with me.

But I knew that I couldn't go too far no matter how much I wanted to leave...

My phone vibrated, and I looked at my phone to see another text from the same number and sighed when I read, 'he is one mile away and is going faster. This is your last chance before he gets there.'

He is one mile away and going faster...

I released a small sigh that I didn't know I was holding with a small whoosh and shook my head and pursed my lips in annoyance. "Oh, God, please don't let anyone come down the road while he speeds toward the house," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want anyone else to get hurt."

My phone vibrated again, and I looked at my phone to see a couple of more texts when I didn't answer right off the bat. 'Hello?' the person on the other end of the line texted me. 'Are you still there? Are you ok?'

I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head while I typed, 'Yes, I am here, and I am sure. I will contact you if I need you sooner than planned, so be ready.'

I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh, closing my eyes just a tad before I opened them when I heard the roar of an engine, sounding like an angry lion roaring while it went toward its prey.

Oh, no.

My heart stopped before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest, and a shiver went down, and I shivered while I grew cold. My mouth went dry while my face grew pale, and my eyes were wide while I stared up the driveway, waiting for my father to come up the driveway in his car and confront me about something that I didn't do.

For a moment, fear had its grip on me and around my heart while my father came up the driveway in his car, and my heart pounded fast and hard in my chest, and all I wanted to do was cry but knowing that I couldn't do it.

Oh, please, help me, I silently prayed while I bit the inside of my lip, and tears started to form at the corner of my eye but I didn't cry; I couldn't. Please...

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I released it with a small, whoosh, and opened my eyes, pushing the fear away while I continued to wait for my father to make his way toward the house.

Thankfully, I did not have to wait any longer, for I saw my father's car coming up the driveway and toward me, and I bit back a tired sigh while I started a video recording, silently praying that whatever I record would hold up in court or whatever if I need to give it to someone that wasn't biased about what was happening.

My father swerved around the roundabout that led to the front porch, and I watched as he did so, making sure that my face was blank and didn't show any emotion with no tears in my eyes, hoping that he wouldn't be able to hear my heart pounding hard and fast in my chest.

My father parked the car in front of the house and swung open the door, and my father turned to look at me while he sneered and narrowed his eyes. "You," he said with a small sneer in his voice. "You did this, you stupid bitch. How dare you!"

Oh, God, help me...
