Chapter 51

"So what happened?" Drew asked and raised an eyebrow in question as soon as we made it to the living room and sat down before I was even able to sit down myself. "Why did that happen? Did you know that it was going to happen? Is that why you are no-"

"Can't I get settled in before you ask me all of these damn questions?" I asked, interrupting him. I scowled and narrowed my eyes while I stared at him, and a look of annoyance flashed across my face. "Hell, I haven't even sat down, and you are asking me all of these questions that I do not know the answers to."

Detective Weinstein cleared his throat to hold back a small snort, and I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. He bit back a small smirk and tucked his head closer to his chest, silently apologizing for the "scene" that he had made. "You do know the answers to his questions, Ms. Prescott," he said and cleared his throat a second time. "I do not know why you said that you didn't."

I rolled my eyes and scowled before I sat down with a tired sigh, and the others in the room sat down with me, growing concerned and worried. "Anyway, I'm fine," I said coldly and shook my head before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat, and Drew scowled and narrowed his eyes while he stared at me, unamused. "So don't give me that look." I glanced at Drew when I said that. "I am fine."

Drew scoffed a laugh and rolled his eyes while he pursed his lips in annoyance. "You were shot at, Christina, and you are telling me not to look at you with concern and worry. What the hell were you thinking?"

I shrugged and looked away from him, pressing my lips into a thin line. "I was thinking that I was going to be fine and that nothing bad was going to happen." I leaned back in my seat and bit back a tired sigh, folding my arms across my chest before I turned to look at him again. "I was thinking that what I had been planning for years would work, and thankfully, it did."

"Years?" Drew asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I nodded in confirmation. He frowned and narrowed his eyes, and he cocked his head to the side while he studied me. "And what do you mean by years?"

I hesitated and looked at Detective Weinstein, not knowing if it would be a good idea if we talked about this before everything else was said and done.

I didn't want to compromise the trials before it even started...

"Unfortunately, she is not able to disclose that information to you, Mr. Barren," Detective Weinstein said, and I breathed a small sigh of relief while I slowly started to relax, grateful that he would make sure that I didn't have to tell him that much about what had happened.

Oh, thank God.

He cleared his throat and shifted in his seat while he looked between the two of us before he looked at him. "There is a lot of stuff that needs to happen before it is safe for her to discuss everything with you to make sure that no complications arise."

"Complications?" Drew asked and furrowed his brows. He frowned and looked between the two of us before he slowly looked at me, silently wanting me to answer his question. "What complications is he talking about, Chris?"

I bit back a tired sigh and rubbed the bridge of my nose before I shook my head and pursed my lips in annoyance. "Don't worry about it, Drew," I said coldly before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat, licking my lips. "At least, do not worry about it right now because I am alive and so are the rest of the people that live here."

Drew scoffed a laugh and rolled his eyes, pursing his lips in annoyance. "But I care about you, Christina," he said, and I couldn't help but flinch when he used my full name and not by the name that I normally went by. "Why the hell is it so hard for you to understand that?"

"I do understand it, Andrew," I all but snapped. I gritted my teeth and narrowed my eyes, biting back a small hiss of annoyance. "I know that you care, and I do appreciate it, even though a part of me doesn't understand why you would do such a thing." I raised my hand to silence him when I saw that he opened his mouth to retort back as to why he would do such a thing.

Drew closed his mouth and pursed his lips further into annoyance, but he didn't say a word. His eyes turned a darker color, and it took my breath away while I stared at him.

Oh, God...

I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat, putting my hand down and back into my lap, grabbing my hands together. "Now, may I continue with what I was going to say, or are you going to continue to interrupt me before I finish talking?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied him.

Drew bit back an annoyed sigh and shook his head. He didn't say a word and slowly gestured for me to go ahead and continue to tell him what I needed to say, much to my relief but also annoyance.

Oh, thank God...

I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face. "I am still not going to tell you about what has happened until everything is done with court. My father is going to jail and will probably go to jail for a long time, hopefully, and I do not know what will happen with my mother."

"Nothing for right now," Detective Weinstein said, and I looked at him from the corner of my eye. He bowed his head and cleared his throat while he shifted in his seat. "However, that might change if she decides to do the same thing as your father."

I scoffed a laugh and rolled my eyes while I pursed my lips in annoyance and narrowed my eyes. "She isn't going to be that stupid," I said coldly. "However, I think she will try to do something in a different way."

Detective Weinstein bit back a small hum and slowly nodded. He didn't say a word and pressed his lips into a thin line. A look of worry flashed through his eyes, and I could tell that he did not like the idea of my mother trying something with me rather than shooting at me like my father had done.

"I'll be fine," I said and shook my head before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. "I was fine during this, even though we had mainly planned for this part of it."

Detective Weinstein bit back a small chuckle and slowly nodded. "I know," he said and moved a hand through his beard. He bit back a tired sigh and leaned back in his seat. "Are you going to keep us updated?" he asked and cocked his head to the side, studying me with a frown on his face and a look of worry in his eyes.

I bit back a small snort and slowly nodded in confirmation because I was going to keep them updated about everything. "I will," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat while I grew serious. "I am going to need your help with some things, and that doesn't include what you are helping me with now." I gestured toward his pocket where I knew he had the phone that had everything that had happened to me in recording.

Detective Weinstein slowly nodded and breathed a small sigh of relief. "Good," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat, and a look of nervousness and worry flashed through his eyes. "Was there anything else that you needed from me today?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question.

I shook my head because there wasn't anything else that I needed from him and stood, and he stood in front of me with Drew looking between us with wide eyes filled with pain and sadness. "If there is anything else that you need from me to help with anything, then let me know," I said. "I will help you whenever I can."

Detective Weinstein nodded in confirmation and pressed his lips into a thin line. "Contact me if anything else happens with both your mother and father. Is that understood?" He raised an eyebrow in question while he continued to study me, and the small frown on his face seemed to grow deeper.

I nodded and pressed my lips into a thin line. "I will let you know if my father contacts me from jail," I said coldly. "I do not know if he will or not, but that is something we will cross when we get there."

Detective Weinstein nodded. "It will be recorded," he said. "My suggestion is to answer a few of the calls, but I would let the voicemail answer the rest of them, if that is ok with you, of course."

"I know that they will be recorded on your end if he does end up contacting me, but I will also make sure to have it recorded on my end, as well. I'll take notes on anything that I deem important and hopefully will help with the investigation."

Detective Weinstein nodded before he cleared his throat and shifted in his seat. "I suggest you not stay here tonight by yourself, Miss Prescott," he said and bowed his head. He raised his hand when I opened my mouth to retaliate. "I also do not suggest you staying here at all. You still have an apartment that you have for yourself. Correct?"

I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I rubbed the bridge of my nose and pursed my lips in annoyance. "I do," I confirmed and nodded, knowing full well that he wasn't going to let up and let me stay here "by myself," especially with what just happened. "My grandmother and sister are there. I have enough room for the three of us."

"Uh, four," Drew said, and we looked at him with frowns on our faces. He frowned and slowly blinked before he looked between the two of us before he looked at me. "Do you have room for the four of us? I'm not leaving you alone."

I bit back a tired sigh and rubbed the bridge of my nose, pursing my lips further in annoyance. "I believe I have room for the four of us, but I do not know why y-"

"Because I want to stay with you," Drew said and shook my head. He set his jaw and narrowed his eyes while he stared at me. "I have been living with you for the past couple of months, and I would like to continue to do just that."

I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line before I looked at Detective Weinstein. "I have enough room for the four of us. Wally and the others that still live here will stay and make sure that everything runs as it should. Or do you need them to leave as well?"

Detective Weinstein shook his head. "They can stay. However, I do suggest that you stay away for the rest of the weekend. Is that understood?"

I held back an eye roll and nodded. "Ok," I said, biting back a tired sigh. "I will stay away for the rest of the weekend, but I am not staying away the whole week. Is that understood?"

Detective Weinstein nodded. "That's fine," he said. "We'll keep someone here and then have someone stationed near your apartment." He raised his hand when I opened my mouth to retort. "I want to make sure that you stay safe, Miss Prescott," he said and tucked his head closer to his chest. "We will stay near."

I bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded, relenting, knowing full well that he wouldn't change his mind. "Ok," I said, not hiding the annoyance in my voice and earning a small clearing of the throat to hide a snort from the detective. "Then I will go ahead and get a shower before I pack a bag to leave for the weekend. Thank you for everything, Detective."

Detective Weinstein offered me a tight smile and nodded. "Of course, Miss Prescott. Excuse me."

And with that and without another word, Detective Weinstein left with both Drew and I watching after him.

Thank God...
