Chapter 55
Drew understood what I meant when I picked up my pace and dropped the subject, even though he looked at me with a concerned look on his face. He didn't say a word and walked over to my side before he nudged my arm with his.
I glanced at him from the corner of my eye and saw that he had a few fingers free from his stuff. I instantly knew that he wanted me to grab his fingers with my own, but I didn't; I couldn't...
I scoffed a laugh and rolled my eyes, pursing my lips in annoyance while I grabbed my bag tighter in my hand. "We are in public, Cupcake," I said coldly. "I do not know why you want me to do that when we are not dating."
"Friends hold hands, too," Drew argued. "Don't tell me that you have never held hands with Eevie or Ethan because I can go ahead and ask them if they do."
"Willingly," I said and flashed him a small smirk and a wink. "I have not willingly held their hands, especially since I am not a fan of being touched, which is something that you should have known because you and your friend have been hanging out with me for a while now."
Drew rolled his eyes and pressed his lips into a thin line. "Fine," he said with a small huff in his voice. He moved closer to me until we were basically touching, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.
I didn't say a word while we made it to the front lobby to see someone on their phone, ignoring the bell that signalled that someone was there.
Great...
I bit back an annoyed sigh and walked over to the desk before I cleared my throat, and the person, a girl, looked up before she looked down at her, pressing her lips into a thin line and typing nonsense to someone else.
Oh, great...
I rolled my eyes and scowled, setting my jaw and pressing my lips into a thin line while I dropped my bag to the ground to get my wallet out of my pocket so that she could see my ID and then the card and key that marked me as having a room here. "I need to make two new keys and cards, please, for room 315, which is under the name of either Christina or Barbara Prescott." I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head when a thought crossed my mind. "Or it could be under either Chris or Babs. I don't know what Weston had put them under to make sure my "parents" can't find me if I have to leave my actual house for some reason."
The person didn't say anything and ignored me. She continued to type on her phone, ignoring me and not doing what I had asked her to do, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.
"Why don't you have some place like Home Depot do a copy of the key?" he asked and nudged my arm, and I glanced at him from the corner of my eye with a small scowl on my face. "I mean, can't you do that?"
"No, it's against the rules," the girl drawled out while she continued to ignore me and my requests. "Now, if you would like to leave, that would be amazing. We don't take your kind here." She looked me up and down, pursing her lips in disgust, and I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line.
"Do you even know I am?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied her. "I mean, I did tell you my name, so you should know that I am supposed to be here, especially since I have a room here that I had bought a long time ago."
The girl slammed her phone on the table, and I slowly blinked and pressed my lips into a thin line while I scowled and narrowed my eyes. "Uh, these are apartment rooms, you can not buy them." She scowled and picked her phone so that she could play on it again or talk to someone else. "So, that is not something you can do. You may leave."
I rolled my eyes and bit back an annoyed sigh. "I do have an apartment room that I bought here," I said and narrowed my eyes just a tad, getting done with her but knowing full well that I needed to get this done if my sister and Drew wanted to leave and then come back without either me or my grandmother by their side.
Even though it wouldn't be a good idea for my sister to go out so soon after this...
A headache appeared out of nowhere, and all I wanted to do was take a nap or soak in a hot tub, but I couldn't because she was still ignoring us and not doing what I wanted to do. "Now, is Weston in, or are you just the only one here?" I asked and rubbed my forehead before I rubbed the bridge of my nose. "Because I know damn well that he would not be pleased with you ignoring me at all."
The girl started to type frantically on the phone, and I knew that she was talking about me to someone else while she did so.
I huffed and grabbed my cards tighter in my hand, trying but failing to curb the anger that I was feeling for this mother forker piece of crap of a worker that didn't know how to do her damn job.
Finally, I had enough of her attitude and slammed my hand on the desk, and she flinched and looked at me with wide eyes that were filled with annoyance but also traced with fear. "Now, are you going to pay attention to me?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied her, pressing my lips into a thin line.
The girl scowled and narrowed her eyes further, and she quickly hid the fear that she felt. "And why should I?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Why don't I just call the police and let them deal with you?"
"Oh, please do," I said sarcastically before I pointed toward the back of the building in which I knew that a detective was parked to make sure that I stayed safe in the apartment building and made sure that I wouldn't leave and go somewhere else where I didn't belong. "Go outside, and go to the back of the building because there is an unmarked police car right there to make sure that I stay safe and alive and also in the building."
The girl scoffed and a laugh and rolled her eyes, pursing her lips in annoyance. She grabbed her phone tighter in her hand. "And why would I do that?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question while she studied me. "I mean, you could be lying."
I snorted and shook my head, tossing the stuff that she would need toward her without feeling guilty about it at all. "I am not, Sweetheart. There is an undercover detective or officer over there, and I know that they are trying to make sure that I stayed safe because I had been shot at before I came here. Now, get the shit I had asked for because I want to go to my apartment and take a fucking nap because getting shot at with a fucking bullet and dealing with a fucked up father drains a fucking person like me."
I paused and leaned forward, narrowing my eyes in anger and annoyance, and the girl's face grew pale while she leaned back away from me. "So do it fucking now."
